  1. Interesting reversal of technology on Ogg Vorbis Gaining Industry Support · · Score: 1

Toys are a bit of a climb down from the vastly profitable market they were looking at. Still a few quid there though.

Actually not, they wanted this ages ago to make life easier for themselves because single signon has a lot of attraction for them, as for many others. Passport failed as did Liberty and as IBM's new effort shortly will. They all want it so badly differences will be set aside at this stage just to make it happen in any shape or form that does not massively disadvantage any of them.

Its a fairly complicated attack, easily traced and could only probably only be executed once or twice per location before PC Plod comes calling due to the high visibility of the villians in pulling it off. Looks like way to little return for the effort and risk involved.

Can you not tell from the language used in the summary. Read blackmail or extortion for 'political dealing' if this was Microsoft. Note how the benefit to both parties is mentioned, if this were microsoft then it would be evil for everyone except MS.

Eh no, thats why we have consumer rights, legislation specifically intended to stop companies fucking customers over like this. The whole article is more of the completely disingenuous bullshit slashdot likes to propagate about MS suing people.

Its not facinating, its more license genital tugging that OSS seems obsessed with. The argument itself is untested, weak and clearly contrary to the spirit of the BSD license which ultimately is quite liberal so even if the assumptions made in the argument were true little would actually change. Reads more like a GPL is the best license in the world scare tactic.
