    I am actually glad to see one of these xxx month of bugs. Personally I have always thought PHP to be a steaming pile of poorly thought out garbage but there is no denying its popularity despite its flaws. Anything that actually helps the meme 'most php flaws are caused by poor programmers' actually become a reality by improving the core security of the language is therefore to be welcomed.

    Can anyone comment on why the YARV implementation is so much faster than the standard implementation? I know for example the SUN VM was originally only intended as a reference VM and faster implementations were developed but not on the scale of the differences highlighted here.

    Well one of the factors in the smaller size of ammunition these days is that that the smaller rounds cause less immediate death and catastrophic injuries, thus requiring combat troops to treat injured colleagues rather than leave them to their fate. If they are treating injuries then they are not shooting at you and are further demoralised so the thinking goes. Body armour further reduces the injuries, especially for blast & shrapnel damage.

    Well one of the contributing factors to the death of applets was Scott McNealy shooting SUN in the foot by forcing MS to distribute an old VM with windows which led to compatability issues for applet developers.
