  1. Similar question... site profit as pay? on Finding Programmers to Build a Website? · · Score: 1

I tried to submit a question like this a couple months back... I have two ideas for sites, both of which are pretty simple (php and mysql should be able to do it) and would be fairly quick to put together. But, I'm a poor starving fine arts grad student and don't have any money to pay a programmer to do it.

Do any programmers work for future profits anymore? I don't care to make a dime on the sites, I just want them to exist and have a way to cover their expenses (Google ads would more than suffice, I believe), and everything else above and beyond that can go to the person that made it.

Native Instruments (Reaktor, Absynth, Kontakt) is going to be rolling out products starting at the end of Q2 2006 to Q1 2007. Cycling '74 (Max/MSP, pluggo, Jitter) is estimating "the end of 2006" but they haven't even come close to meeting a deadline in many years, so that'll probably be mid-2007. Steinberg (Cubase) has said they'll update "sometime" in 2006.

So... exactly who is the market for the new Intel products? The swarms of iPod owners that own Apple products for reasons of fashion more than functionality? It seems like none of the apps that high-end Apple users actually use aren't going to be out for quite some time.

But they sorta had to release the Intel products so soon, though didn't they? All the hardcore Apple guys I knew said they wouldn't be buying any new stuff until the transition to Intel. Oh well...

I'm sure it wouldn't be so difficult to make sure that games could utilize BOTH the analog control and the digital control.

How does releasing a new system that can play DS games and Advance games in a slightly different package differ so greatly from releasing a new system that can play DS games and Advance games in a slightly different package with an analog stick?

However, the experience of playing Mario 64 without an analog stick was awkward. Since the release of the DS, even in some of the initial reviews, it has been widely speculated that Nintendo would release an upgraded version in the future with an analog stick.

Now, we all know that Nintendo doesn't really listen to game pundits, but the addition of an analog stick, much like the addition of a backlit screen makes a whole lot of sense. I'll probably end up buying this upgrade anyway.

Does it strike anyone else as hypocritical that Nintendo refuses to release small upgrades to their first party games (releasing sequels to games that just add new levels instead of totally redesigning the game engine which would mean having a new Mario/Mario Kart game each year instead of one every 3-5 years) but they release tons of incremental upgrades to their portable systems?

While this *might* be true, it does nothing to solve my desire to drive a fast race car.

I would assume the reason you'd go with broadband is because you want a FASTER connection. It can be argued that it's less safe, but it's undeniably faster, which is your goal.

Statistically, you might be more open to an attack directed at your computer since the connection is "always on," but this is rare and easy to stop, in fact all the security measures you would want to take with broadband should already be in place because you face similar, if not the same risks with dial-up.

Just because you *can* do all the things you need as a limited access user, doesn't mean people *do*. It's easy to do a decent job securing a Windows box yet most people have gobs of spyware. It's easy to secure an OSX or Linux box too, but that doesn't mean that people *do*.

Making the argument that one is certainly more secure than the other can't be proven at all until/unless OSX or Linux were the single most dominant operating system and had 90%+ of the desktop as Windows does. Until then, it's not much different than just making stuff up.
