  1. Isn't that entrapment? on Video and Software Downloads Overtaking Music · · Score: 2, Interesting
it wouldn't take the MPAA more than 30 seconds to start another one and start nabbing people IN THE ACT
If a copyright holder provides a service to make it easy for you to download their content, wouldn't they be implictly condoning it? Thus, it wouldn't be piracy.

It's not illegal to download a file, or swap it amongst people. It's only illegal if you don't have permission to do it..
  2. Nope its the Right TO Copy on EFF Begins Digital Television Liberation Project · · Score: 1

Copyright wasn't designed originally to limit copying, but provide the right to copy. There is a reason why it was originally only 14 years of restricted use.

The whole point of copyright law was to let people copy things after they were brand new.

Under the original law, the first tv broadcasts and movies would all be public domain now and we could all make our own copies of them. It was designed to make sure that works of art wouldn't lost. Think about it, can you find really old TV shows?

  7. Re:I've always wondered... on Build Your Own Steadicam · · Score: 2, Insightful
    Two reasons:
    1. Difficulty. You'd have to put a key on almost every frame to make it look good. It would take far too much time to do this in post.
    2. Resolution/Scaling. It's not as simple as losing the edges. You have to rescale the image. Unless you do this by an integer factor, you're going to get at least some distortion.
  8. Not a Steadicam on Build Your Own Steadicam · · Score: 4, Informative

With the exception of the Steadicam JR, most Steadicams have a body harness. That makes them much more stable than using you hand.

This is really more similiar to a lower end Glidecam stabilizer (even this is floating).

There are also some rather cheap alternatives out there to make a camcorder smoother.

Granted this is significantly cheaper to make than these products, but from my experience anything that is handheld doesn't work as well as the bodyrigs. Personally, I'd rather just do it by hand alone.

You also might want to check out a relatively cheap jib too.

In my dorm room, my roomate and I each have 6 electrical outlets, a phone jack, and an ethernet port. According to the university, that should be plenty.

But, between the Microfridge, 3 fans, 2 lights, telephone, cell phone charger, vcr, and computer, I find myself using two extensior cords, a powerstrip, and a 1000VA UPS.

My point? You can never have enough outlets, and they are never in the right places. I have to run an extension on my cat3, and a 25 foot cat5. Never mind the fact that my Microfridge is running through a lamp socket.

I'm home for thanksgiving break now, I hope there's not a fire while I'm gone.

Now, if the logic of "younger people cost less" really followed through, you'd think I'd have a job right now. After all, I don't exactly need health insurence as I'm covered under my parents till I graduate college. Plus, I'm willing to work for less than my older, relatively colleagues.
