Picture a friend with a wireless mouse who is just staring at his download meter. In binocular distance of the screen, and with an appropriate transmitter antenna, use your mouse to open MSPaint on his machine.
As much fun as people make about this "useless toy", or however it was described, you hit the nail on the head. It may seem silly, but Geordi's visor is like the holy grail... for robots and humans... electromagnetic/xray/whatever/chromatograph imaging for diagnostics... just look at something, find a hot spot, or whatever. Might even be interesting for sky gazing at night. Of course, some of these applications would require very expensive transducers.
But of course, this is more a story about the embedded software I guess...
I have cable. $50 / month. I regularly get over 3Mb/s, and my neighbor gets about 6Mb/s in the same building. The only problem are the outages.

Why would you want your computer to be silent?? There are many components in the computer that need to be heard. The fan, the hard drive, the PC speaker. If you can't hear them, what are you going to do, touch them every once in a while, see if they're using energy? It's nice to NOT be deaf... I've never had a computer that made noise loud enough for me to beat the crap out of it and I've been using them for almost 30 years.
IMNSHO, heatsinks are a better design. They do not fail. There is less dust flowing around them. Fans have an MTBF and heatsinks do not. If you have a quiet fan, you'll never even know when it kicks the bucket. Think of a Marshall Amp with 1000 Watts flowing through it. If you've ever seen the heatsinks in those, you'll know what I mean.
Ok, you're either not familiar with federal sentencing guidelines, or you are just a moron. The sentencing guidelines work on points. The kid obviously has little or no prior record, so the point system is in his favor. No way he will get 15 years. Read the guidelines again!!!!!!!
I am very familiar with the federal penal system, so praise me and cook some soup for me.
The cameras are there not because of any DOT initiative, but because a virus from outer space infected the DOT workers who then got two jobs to pay for the camera infrastructure themselves, unbeknownst to any oversight panel.
But seriously, I think a really good application for cameras would be to have a video display on the side of the road, displaying traffic conditions at the the next exit. Ergo, to give you an opportunity to get off at the exit which is half a mile ahead of you. Would be incredibly expensive right now.. but maybe not in the future.
Unless you need your computer to be running 24/7, leaving it on is a tremendous waste of energy, and I think it's unethical. You're an ass.
When your switching power supply starts breaking motherboards by turning it off and on every goddamn day, tell that to the recycling plant that you will never use.
If you can write source code, you can port it. Good gravy, and forget about it. Sometimes I don't understand the logic behind people who think things shouldn't be ported. If you write something, you're trying to get it into the hands of everyone who needs it.
That being said, if you want everything to be free, MAKE IT FREE. The OSS commune is a great concept in my opinion, and freeing it on a win32 platform so people won't have to compile it manually is a great idea. That will only help the cause. What a ridiculous concept. Porting a binary to win32 will NEVER hurt the cause... It's so laughable it makes my bowels jizz.
If they want to spy on their citizens like the United States, they already have the rights under law, and the equipment to do so. It's called a packet sniffer. They don't need viruses to do this kind of spying. If you're hooked up to the internet, you're wide open.
Language is a function of human emotion. I hate being unable to comprehend a fellow human's commmunication due to lack of training, or lack of intelligence as much as the next person. However, consider the time it takes to BITCH about it (like I am doing now), versus the time it takes to ask someone in 30 seconds to clarify.
It took me 1 minute to write this comment. In that time, I could have clarified and resolved any issue that was miscommunicated. Point taken?
And one more fucking thing, you stupid fuck. read the DEFINITION OF PATHETIC:
Arousing or capable of arousing sympathetic sadness and compassion: "The old, rather shabby room struck her as extraordinarily pathetic" (John Galsworthy).
Haha... I think everyone misinterpreted what I was trying to say. I led off my comment with "I have no problem with this"...
To be more specific, I think that everyone should just be grateful that they have a life. "Improving on it" often has devastating results. I'm happy living on a farm, or in a hole. That's just me, and I'm not criticizing anyone for wanting more from their pathetic existence, but it's just playing with fire. No matter what you do, you're still going to die, and the point is to enjoy the time you have.
What's wrong with existing as a human? Why do we have to constantly "improve" upon our existence? My take on any modifications to humanity are such that it's basically pointless. We might be smarter, but will we be happier? That's what life is about.
A very devilish plot just sprang to mind.

How in the $%@#! do you run a public library without "making available" copyrighted material???
When I throw her cell phone against the pavement, I expect it to break.
Sigh.

Will take about 3 minutes. Enough said.

Just my two cents.
In fact, the US must have known that there were no weapons of mass destruction. Who would invade a country that had nuclear capabilities?
subject line says it all

Kazaa Lite Resurrection. I never have a problem getting the latest Enterprise episodes.

The software is already running. No way to stop it now. I'll bet that 50% of the people who downloaded it are happy with it, and never uninstall it.
Having said that, I think it's hubris encoded. No self-respecting company would release such illware.

While I find it noble that you think that humanity has a purpose, other than pure selfishness,
If anything, survival is in our very nature.
Survival is selfishness personified, period. End of discussion.
The meaning of life is abusing your hormones for pleasure, until you eventually end up dying?
Yep. Would you rather abuse your hormones with sadness and despair? Have a good time dumb fuck. Go get laid.
