I grew up in a country town, right next to a large coffee factory. Loved the smell, the aroma kinda reminds me of home. And look at me, I grew up fine....
This is by no means the easiest solution, but one that could work. I don't envy the position you're in.
Create a web page (eg. ASP) on a server running MS Word. In your back end code, create an instance of MS Word and automate the conversion of these files to HTML. Pain in the ass, but this can be done.
MS Word HTML comes out with all sorts of xml tags and crap, so use a simple regular expression to filter out all the tags you don't need, keeping <p>, <ol> etc etc.
They're good, but they sure don't beat Microsofts' "Steve Ballmer plays big sweaty elf under the mistletoe showing off XP's security features" switch campaign.
Being a (nearly-finished) student, I can vouch for the troubles that can be had trying to find a job in the industry at the moment. I was lucky enough to study a course (Multimedia) that has a year of work placement between 2nd and 3rd year. Our uni boasted a "100% placement rate" for these before my year (2001). Obviously things went downhill from there. I was lucky enough to secure a place (it wasn't my first choice) and hang on through the tough times. I kept working through final year and now have a full time job to go. I've also had 2 years experience at the same time (:
All I can suggest is that you seek out any opportunity to work while you study - the workload is heavier, but your chances of being employed at the end are far greater.
What is happening with Blu-Ray, the DVD format that nine members of the DVD forum supported earlier this year? Blu-Ray uses a 405nm blue-violet laser, and can hold up to 27GB on a single-sided single-layer disc. While the capacity is not as great, the commercial support is.
I think I'll wait on this format (that has the backing of Hitachi, Sony, Pioneer, Philips etc etc) before going out on a limb with any epoxy solution.
I've come across a recent top-list of intranets here in Australia, and had to dismiss it as a joke. Every intranet that I've ever built/worked on has had extremely strict confidentiality clauses etc etc attached with it. It's just the fact that companies don't want a smidgeon of their information out in the open (even to a rating company).
I think software engineering design guidelines would be more appropriate for a web application that anything Jakob Nielsen could come up with. As you know, web applications and websites are two totally different breeds of fish.
Quote from article, comparing alcohol to gasoline:
"but we have some concerns of its performance in lower temperatures"
I'm not an expert in the area, but I'm guessing that it has something to do with the alcohol not producing as much heat as gasoline. I'm also guessing that it would be a complete bastard to start your alcohol-fuelled car on a frosty morning.
.. who was a "drugged-out, late-teens strip-club owner from Ottawa". He offered $40 million to the band, all of which he didn't have.
Sounds like a smart business plan to me!..and he got away with it by introducing corporate sponsorship and cross-promotion to their gigs. I'm sure there must've been some strip-club/Stones cross-promotion going on as well;)
One can only wonder if this increase in price is to due to corporate cost saving measures or the fact that hard drives are becoming less stable magnetically as they increase in storage space.
Makes me wonder if the manufacturers are comprimising quality for both the extra space, and the speed at which they're getting churned out. I noticed the same thing with 3.5" floppy drives in their later years, prices went right down, as did the quality. In the end they were treated almost as a "disposable" part. Are hard drives going this way?
The first PC I assembled myself was an 8086. After getting hold of all the pieces I needed, I accidentally plugged the motherboard power in back-to-front. When I switched it on, it was unusually quiet (funnily enough) and smoke started pouring out the case openings. You learn pretty quickly not to to those kinda things.
WHERE WERE THE LEGO MEN THEN, HUH?.. probably off shooting movies (:
Something like this, a UK nuclear bunker which was auctioned in July. No better place to store important information, might have some problems with the wireless transmission though. (:
From the comments I've read so far, it seems like most/. readers are listening to their MP3/Ogg's through $20,000 HiFi systems. For me, listening to 128 kbps MP3 is ample, seeing as it'll be through my crappy old Sony headphones I've got.
Maximum quality per bitrate is not the point when you're trying to drown out the other shit music around the office (:

..researchers found [nervous system activation] rose after consumption of both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee in both groups.
Now we have some solid evidence to prove to people that there is no point in drinking Decaf. Decaf is EVIL!!

"It appears to be ... an incredibly refined ability of the female to manipulate the investment of her partners"
I knew women these days were reptile-like, but god damn..
*hears whip crack and yelling.. "get back in the kitchen and make me some pie!"*
Heh.. acid.slashdot.org - I can see it now. We can keep the Amiga and CowboyNeal posts here too! :)
I came across some more old maps the other day, quite a few from the 1500's.
.. it's just our friend Steve Ballmer practising his new conference routine.

..what are the passengers going to drink??
I've seen more alcohol on a cross-Pacific flight than those planes will ever see!
What's going on with Slashdot and posting frickin' articles that feature the number 100,000?
What? Is it as high as anyone can count?
As for the Star Wars Destoyer, that's pretty cheap for a coffee table.. (just flip it upside down) (:
Back in my day, we didn't need any of this "realism" Sims crap. We had games like Leisure Suit Larry to teach us social interaction skills.
Boy didn't it hurt when you tried out the ol' "Kiss" command on a random girl in the schoolyard (:

Bugger the "Weapons of Mass Destruction". It's the "Rollercoasters of Mass Destruction" you have to be careful about.
Can someone let the president know about this threat to humanity?
Me thinks the SETI aliens he's looking for will notice the tesla sparks before he notices the aliens.
I'm sure there's noise limit laws to prevent this kind of thing (:

"Cloning" the existing gates was the plan all along (:
.. well, according to Jango anyway..
