Yet another case of a rather pathetic "zero-tolerance" style "get-tough" policy
You better make that "fifteen-tolerance"..
"One question on the application asked if you'd smoked pot more than 15 times," Sweeny recalled. "Fifteen times? What's up with that? Fifteen is the magic number?"
Totally agree. I'm not alone in thinking that Monkey Island 2 is the greatest adventure game that lived. Bring on more! In the words of the great Big Kev: I'm Excited!
And how did LeChuck pull his underpants off without taking off his pants? (:
I've always been a believer that algebra is very important across a wide variety of subjects, one of which is music. When I was younger, I was a subject in a study on how algebra (and maths in general) helps general musical ability. It makes sense - sheet music is a kind of abstract form of math. You've got different length notes in different positions with different intervals between.
I'm sure there were more complete studies out there, but the results indicated a strong correlation between mathematical and musical ability.
After arresting the men, the agents used account numbers and passwords obtained by the program to gain access to data stored on the pair's computers in Russia.
So their program contributed to their own demise. It's a sad story.
Next time I write a sniffer program, I'll have to remember to ignore my own IP address (:
And how fitting that on the anniversary of an attack which paralyzed servers dead in their tracks, we hear the far-away screams of agony from the lone sysadmin of Missing Left Socks [missingleftsocks.com] as 100,000 slashdotters pillage his machine simultaneously.
.. and now that's 200,000 slashdotters pillaging 2 machines simultaneously. (:
The more worrying aspect in all of this is the Q3 icon on his desktop (:
.. now where did that rail gun go?..

So, maybe providing bandwidth to the home is a dead end and it's developing cybercafes that's the key to a computer-centric culture?
I'd like to see cybercafes with better atmosphere. I may be deprived, but I'm used to the ones with the cream walls and plastic seats (you know what I mean).
What we need are cyber-lounges with high end PCs (w. games and high bandwith net etc) in a chilled out setting. With a vast array of caffinated beverages at the bar (:
So from now on, I'm working from 4_00 till F_00?? With lunch at A_00?
I like the look of this - especially the conversion between hex seconds, minutes etc being just a matter of shifting the decimal point. Does this mean we have Smarch as a month? (:
Experts say that seas will become emptied of fish while forests - which absorb carbon dioxide emissions - are completely destroyed and freshwater supplies become scarce and polluted.
This, of course, is based on 1960's factory emission averages, and projecting them 50 years down the track. Think about the advances in pollution contorl, recycling etc etc in the last 10 years. Those advances are happening at a steady rate, and aren't going to slow down. This means we will keep getting better at looking after the planet - NOT screwing it up like some want us to believe.
Look at life in a positive light and we might finally stop bitching and get productive.
We don't have the MP3 problem because our computers sound drivers are disabled by admin. If someone was industrious enought to enable them it would be pretty obvious what you did and would quickly be without job.
That's fair enough. I'm lucky enough to have admin rights to everything, but on the other hand know that if I download MP3s all day, the bandwidth bill will rack up and my boss will get pissed off. I was at a client's the other day (large multi-national), and they had a 50GB server full of mp3s and the like. They're safe because the admin who put them there can hide behind a screen of anonymity in a company that has enough $$ to buy a continent.
Moral of the story: Don't bite the hand that feeds you!
I was in the same situation a couple of weeks ago, so I know what it's like to dredge the web for a good bargain. I found it's good to look for products online, decide what you want, and then go to the local dealer to get the best price. Saying that, the other week I ignored my own advice and orded online out of pure laziness.
For the oz readers, New Computers is a good one to check for stock, not necessarily pricing.
this article is about phasing out pre-recorded VHS tapes. It doesn't say that it will phase out VCRs.
My thoughts the technology:
VHS = Cassette tape
DVD = CD
I think we'll end up with VCR's still hanging around for a while, in the same way Cassette tape players hung around in stereo systems for years (and still do). People need something to be able to watch their taped episodes of Colombo with. Or is that just me?
I totally agree. Tubes are a hassle and can cause problems heating up, and having to be replaced. Having used various tube guitar amps in my time, I can say having a VOX is great for getting that Beatles-esque sound, but god damn you don't need it on-board. Really, AOpen? I could spend my money on better things, like a gold plated hard drive, or a keyboard made of candy!
Now for the FBI to bust the assses of the "Get your degree from a prestigous non-accredited university in the mail today!" spammers.
Hold on a minute.. "prestigous AND non-accredited" - *wow*, I gotta get me one of those..
..one can glean: There is no clear answer to the question
Bwahhahaha - no clear answer! My humor shatters me!

Now saying "You're a real gem" is a deaththreat, then?
This gives new meaning to "being wrapped around her little finger".

Every afternoon at work, I think about a nice cold beer...
...I don't see my employer jumping at that one! This is a double standard that must be stamped out!

Steve's got a point though - it IS cheaper to dance around like a monkey man than paying someone to do a powerpoint presentation for you!
My favourite Steve Ballmer quote from this article:
"We haven't figured out how to be lower priced than Linux"
(:
That's quite an impressive list. Some of these are also available for download here.

Spielberg Denied Crack at Star Wars:
SPIELBERG: "Oh well, pass me the bong then.."
doesn't decrease brain activity as much as watching tv, i'd bet.
Funny about that - it helps the cause:
"Those in the visual group, who were used to visual stimulation, such as from television, easily developed videogame-type brains."
Isn't that just the ultimate in game playing efficiency - to have a videogame-type brain?
