they've been doing that for a long time, it is all javascript, using the handler on the resize. did you notice that the columns re-lay themselves out when you resize the window. and the end columns are the previous/ next buttons, so you can click anywhere in the last column and move to the next page.
allows you to bypass the recycle bin and delete completely right away. just a bit of a time saver really. It is, however, unrecoverable, so you had better mean it.
quicktime has the capability but not the necessity of DRM. I have happily encoded quite a lot of video, (from dvd's that I own) into quicktime movies that I can play without killing the battery fast.
I can play them anywhere. No 'translation' necessary. the only time DRM enters into the discussion at all is when you purchase something in the form of a file, and the vendor wishes to prevent you from making copies of that digital file.
It is not, and never has been, necessary to encode files for the iPod using any sort of DRM.
FTFA: "Despite the seriousness of the Bush White House, more than one Bush staffer reads The Onion and enjoys it thoroughly," he said. "We do have a sense of humor, believe it or not."
sense of humor? possibly, but a perhaps a stunning lack of a sense of irony.
The great thing here is that I will never have to worry about space. Who cares if I never fill it, I probably never have to expand it either. I won't have to worry about which songs to take where.
Flash is not really marketed at that kind of site building any more, they have repositioned it as a programming platform, and for certain things it can be really useful. My last job used it in a fairly creative way to do educational software, and deal with limitations of web pages served off of a CD, which was one of the requirements of the clients.
Secondary advantage was that quiz content was non-obvious in the page source, the way it would be with html. Ajax and other server side things are (or were) not compatible with the basic SCORM course creation structure/requirements.
Also, as the flash player works the same on all platforms/browsers, we only had to write once, and we supported win/mac (lin?) IE,Moz,Saf,Opera etc. (take that client-side-java, javascript etc.)
Otherwise, as a (US) football fan, espn.com has nice video player in flash, that beats the hell out of the realplayer on NFL.com. the quake4 preview site was largely done via flash video, which is, at this point, is probably the best way to embed video in a web page, (lightweight plug-in, easy to make custom controls.) There are many good arguments to not do that sort of thing, but if you do, from the end user perspective, it's the nicest one going.
- There are going to be millions of VCRs and other hard coded devices designed to change to the old DST law, meaning many will auto-adjust to the wrong time.
what better way to force people to upgrade to the new Digital HD equipment...
It meant I was avoided by you. saves a lot of trouble that...
seriously though, why bother? I am quite fond of the shows, old and new, and find it very difficult at times to explain why I think it is a great program. the best explanation I ever read was given by Harlan Ellison in the foreword of a Dr. Who novel I had way back when. Much of what he admired was the fact that unlike other SciFi characters, the Doctor was ruthless. He had morals and ethics, and really felt them, and they were the cause of his actions rather than the excuse. How many other 'hero' characters stood trial for genocide?
But really, you are entitled not to like it. We won't hold it against you.
I just wish they would sell it on iTMS... Hear that BBC? sell the shows on iTMS and lower the British license fee! you'll make everyone there happier for it, and a number of people here as well.
How many downloads there have been so far? Has anyone bought an episode? Having done that would you buy another?
Honestly I could care little less if the rest of the US networks joined in, but I would really like it if the BBC, channel 4, Discovery and PBS got into this. You want to get the suburban money, put the "New Yankee Workshop" out this way. Imagine there's no pledge weeks... SciFi already did the one episode of BG, could they be convinced to do more? As it is, I haven't owned a TV in 3 years, but I get shows from Netflix. At the speed I watch movies, it probably runs about $1.50 per disk.
Actually, I think the people who have to worry the most about this kind of service is the Nielsen company. No longer will you have to guess at how many people wanted to or actually did watch a show.
Because she has only ever argued points that she was paid for, and not whether or not they are constitutional. I am against this nominee simply because of that. The fact that she argued on microsoft's side of the case is immaterial.
But the fact remains that this is a person who is only a lawyer by trade, not a jurist. A lawyer's job is to win the case, period. A jurist's job is to be correct in the interpretation of the law. Do you honestly believe that this woman, who has been a bush family lawyer, will do that? I don't.
She has no record as a judge, no record of her opinion regarding the constitution, she only has a record of what she has been paid to do. Is that enough for you? Not me.
She is being nominated for a position that will make her one of the final arbiters of what is and is not legal in this country. And her record is that she is good at doing what she is told, (or paid for.) That frightens me.
my last license cost about $24, there was a 10 minute written test, it was valid for 2 birthdays, which due to a quirk in scheduling means it expired in 366 days. the california one was a slightly longer test. it was valid for 5 years I think? it's been a while I don't recall the california rules...
my original test including a 15 minute actual driving test I believe was under $100, but that was nearly 20 years ago. that was for the learner's permit at age 15, then a real license at 16.
classes and training were optional, but proof of having taken them dropped your insurance rates something huge.
so as you cross the street in the US, be afraid, be very afraid...
the reason you want firewire instead of usb for the doc connector, (at least with the full size ipods,) is that the charge time for the battery drops dramatically.
3+hrs. (usb) to 1 hr. (6pinFirewire) in my experience.
non-stop in a weekly show sure, but in a relatively short movie, especially comic-book, wild-premise movie, a bit of self observational, laconic sarcasm works well.
the part where he does well is remembering that, to the people in the movie, what is going on is not necessarily weird and unexpected. the lack of matter-of-fact attitude is what irritates the hell out of me in many other movies and shows.
I suppose I'm attaching his name to a style that could easily be referred to as 'venkman-ish' if you would prefer...

IHT has got article reading very right.
redundancy is what happens when you respond without scrolling down aways first...
mod me away...

Who will quietly remind you that Tedy spells his name with one 'd.' ;)

Are we all clear on this?

okay, so your using Ussher's figure of 4004 B.C. rather than the judaic 5677 as the scale?
2000 years == 20 centuries, no?
judaic calendar currently dated 5766. (don't know if that has any bearing...)

Flash is only evil in the sense that TV is evil.

the computer game...
My Little Pony would become a political force!

ahh yes... "the Karen Carpenter Story" one of the greats...

In the right hands, split screen can be a powerful tool...
I'm curious, what would you suggest is a good example?
