Crime rates in the USA, per 100K population look to be less than half what they were in 1980 for the most part. And none of the crimes they track are "way the hell up". Or even "up".....
Issue? I would love to have a gun jammer in my car. Seems that these days, that would be a prudent safeguard.
You seem to be assuming that the police will use smartgun technology. Ain't gonna happen! Cops want reliable firearms, not something that might not work when the time comes that you really, really need a gun....
According to wikipedia, schizophrenia occurs in 0.3-0.7% of the population. So 0.15% of the general population that have schizophrenia won't be diagnosed as having it, but about 25% of the general population who are not schizos will be diagnosed as having it.
A false positive rate 100x the actual rate is pretty much useless....
I think your car is being used for illegal purposes, so I am entitled to all of the cash in your car, including in your wallet, because that cash is guilty of being involved with a crime and it cannot legally defend itself.
Not just the cash, or course. The car can also be confiscated. As can anything else you own, including your house....
The first AI CEO turned presidential candidate will be noted as saying in the upcoming 2070 election "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters, okay? It's, like, incredible"
What could go wrong?
Other than a Presidential election in 2070, you mean? We have those things scheduled for 2068 and 2072, but we'd need a Constitutional Amendment or three to have one in 2070....
Stuff like this has been going on since the ice age
Technically, we're still in "the Ice Age". There's still a continent on top of the South Pole, and continents surrounding the North Pole.
What you probably meant was "since the last (previous) glaciation".
Note that is possible that the "next glaciation" started with the Year Without a Summer (1815), but was aborted by the increased use of coal since then. Apparently, glaciations start, not with extremely cold winters, but with summers that are cold enough to prevent the previous winter's snowfall from entirely melting....
More importantly, will one of the remaining six go the other way? Because that gives the Supremes a chance to weigh in on the issue in a definitive sort of way.....
This all sounds promising, but the problem with personalized treatment is the cost.
Yeah, those new-fangled "computers" (anyone old enough to remember when "computer" was a job description?) cost so damn much there'll never be a real demand for more than a few dozen in the world, much less the country...
Umm, no. Doing a quick check, I find that the USA, for the eight years of the Obama Presidency (and presumably for seven of the eight of the Bush Presidency) has had a 75%+ disapproval chance of getting a visa for ANY Afghanis.
IOW, this isn't the EEEEEVIL MR Trump. This is the same policy that Obama was using.
PS. I also note that the guys running the robotics conference in question consider their success rate in getting visas much higher than it has been historically. They're expecting only two countries to not get their visas, as opposed to the 50 or so that marks "average".
The unemployment rates for 20-25 year olds is twice that of the other age groups.
Or not. At least in the USA, the phrases "left the work force" and "unemployment rate" are completely disconnected. If you're unemployed for a signficant period, you have "left the workfirce", and are no longer counted as unemployed.
Which is one of the many things that make our definition of "unemployment rate" pretty much meaningless.
They were shooting a large caliber, slow round from a handgun, which can be rapidly slowed/stopped by something like a book.
Umm,no. That round moves along at 450+ m/s, depending on exact loading. Quite a bit faster than a 9mm parabellum, and almost twice as fast as a.45ACP....
Plus a bullet that masses about 2.5x that of the parabellum, and 35% or so more than a.45ACP.
As to solar, they should simply require that all new buildings of 5 stories and less, have enough on-site AE to equal or exceed the average monthly energy used of the HVAC.
You DO realize that your solution would exacerbate CA's current problem, right?
While solar panels do pollute a little if not properly disposed of, as far as I know, lead, cadmium and chromium are all pretty easy to recover by melting down the panels.
Note, by the by, that melting down nuclear fuel rods isn't actually that difficult either. Or wouldn't be if not for the NIMBY's who wet themselves when they hear the word "nuclear". Note that we were doing it in 1945 with what passed for technology at the time....
And you might want to be aware, when considering the long half-life of some radio-isotopes, that lead has a nearly infinite half-life....
Remember, a "VC" is someone who wants to get rich off of someone else's work and creativity. Parasites. They produce nothing but exploitation. It should not surprise that they seek to exploit everyone they meet.
Just curious, where, exactly, is someone supposed to get money for developingn their new idea? The Tooth Fairy?
A VC may be a loan shark (costs more than money from a bank, but a bank isn't going to give you $10M backed up by your title to a small suburban home), but until we get a Government Program that's required to give people with new ideas Free Money (note that such an organization could NEVER be abused), they're the choice.
Unless you're born rich, of course. Dispense with VC's, and you pretty much guarantee that neat new startups will only be done by rich people....
Even though congress has approval rating that extremely low (I'd say with ratings like this congress and govt are becoming unsustainable), just about everyone is re-elected (go figure).
And this is surprising to you? All it means is that people generally like THEIR Rep and Senators. The ones they vote for.
Just because I like the guy I vote for doesn't mean I like the 431 people that the rest of you clowns voted for....
Citation?

about 25. (25.4)
about 90. (91.44)
And noone except historians use furlongs, chains, cubits, bolts, barleycorn...
Fathoms, however, we still use. In the Navy, possibly in the merchant marine as well. About 1.8m per....
This said by someone who can handle dividing by 10 (SI), but has trouble with dividing by 12 (inches to feet)....
Seems to me the simple solution to a (stupid) new tax is to start selling bikes with 24" wheels.
Which has the added benefit of annoying the hell out of the Governor and Legislature....
Specifically, the cost part.
A quick google and a couple minutes with a calculator comes up with ~$1.5T for the solar panels, assuming sunny days all year round.
Plus the cost of the batteries, of course. And extra panels to cover rainy days.
And let's not forget the distribution system (which ranges from negligible to horrendous, depending on a lot of factors).
And the factories to build 50 billion or so solar panels.....
So, doable? Yeah, could be done. Cheap and easy? Not hardly.....
Other than a Presidential election in 2070, you mean? We have those things scheduled for 2068 and 2072, but we'd need a Constitutional Amendment or three to have one in 2070....
So, encourage reproduction among the upper classes, then? Only the "Right People" should have kids? How very Nineteenth Century British of you....

More like:
Europen/Asian. I lack knowledge. This embarrasses me, so mustn't let anyone know.
American: I lack knowledge. Let's correct that right now.
.Nuclear baseload. We've known how to do it for half a century. That alone would resolve most of the CO2 issues.
When you find a left-leaning AGW zealot who wants more nukes, then I'll start taking the problem more seriously.
As is, looks more like an attempt at social engineering (lowering everyone's standard of living except for the "Right People")
Cheesecake? Lemon meringue pie? Baklava? Or were you thinking of some really nasty dessert I've never even heard of?
You do realize that August 2016 was well before the election, right? Or didn't you bother to even read TFS?
