  1. They aren't around anymore on What's Happening with Open Source HA Software? · · Score: -1, Troll

Mission Critical Linux went out of business. It's truly a shame, they were a town over from me. Apparently you can't make money giving away software for free.

  2. Watch out for the pay on Current State of the International IT Market? · · Score: 0, Redundant

I agree with the above poster about having a lot more things to worry about than finding a job, but I think once you do find one you're going to be severely disappointed. Unlike the US, where IT workers are for some unknown reason glorified, many international companies see them as little more than janitors, paid to keep the IT systems running. I really think if you're looking for decent pay in this area it's going to be like hitting a brick wall, do you have any developer talents?

Seriously, how few explosive do you think it would take to bring down the whole thing, being a suspension bridge? It's an attack waiting to happen.

I'm well aware of the differences between First Person Shooters and real life and I agree 100% with your statement, but the fact is this is a SCHOOL-SPONSORED ACTIVITY and many parents will look down on violent shooting games and feel that they shouldn't be encouraged in an activity provided by a school system. It "wouldn't be prudent."

  6. Sounds like a great idea on Games in High School? · · Score: 1

I'd suggest any RTS/Strategy or Fantasy games, even something slightly violent like Diablo II. I'd stay away from the FPS's, they're going to wind up causing trouble with overbearing parents. Still sounds like a great idea, we never had a game night sponsored by the school when I was in high school years ago.

It isn't necessarily Apple's job to port their software to every platform known to exist.

I'm fully aware of that, however my point was that having been ported to OS X, a UNIX in most respects, the port to Linux would be trivial (change a few libraries and a recompile), and certainly they'd be interested in more users, even if those interested would only in the thousands.

I think you almost hit the nail on the head with this one. Four Linux companies that haven't done anything in a long time (Caldera, TurboLinux? Are they kidding??) are ganging up to try to take on RedHat, but the fact remains that they're still four dying companies. I'm really not sure what they're trying to accomplish with this initiative, but it looks like a last-ditch effort on the way out, which is really a shame because SuSE was almost sustaining a business and I had high hopes for it, even if I'm a Mandrake fan, myself.

I think you're probably trolling, but you're missing the point. It's nice that you can get the same chip for Apple desktops and laptops, but it doesn't matter if the chip isn't up to par with what you need. Sure, Apple's chips run Altivec-optimized Photoshop routines quickly, but for things that actually matter to me like kernel compiles, mp3 encoding, or gaming, a P4 1.5 Ghz laptop is going to run 3 times as fast as your 500 Mhz G4.

  12. Yeah, and?? on Mobile Gaming At Desktop Speeds · · Score: 1

I wonder why, perhaps it's because you have a device that will fit in your lap (or less) and be almost up to par with the speed of a large desktop tower? Presuming someone had a use for a mobile computer, why would they mind paying for a literal mobile desktop?

Kernel upgrades are supported with urpmi in Cooker, but I'd be curious what is wrong with the 2.4.18 kernel supplied with 8.2. It's been thorughly QA tested, and if you have the upgrade sickness, surely you can learn to compile your own kernel.

Transgaming has done an excellent job making money in a way that still contributes to the community while offering an extremely valuable service. I'll give you a hint, there's a bad guy here, and it isn't Transgaming.

Sorry, I don't have anything that interesting besides counting up the disk space of GNU packages, though it would be an interesting thing to find out the statistics on.
