    This is why I find teleportation scary. There is no way anyone is going to send the matter along for the ride, I think they are just lying in Star Trek. Even if they do, they are essentially killing you and then creating a clone out of your cremation dust.

    Mortgages are by nature lower than rent. When paying rent you are paying someone else's mortgage AND paying them a premium for the convenience and low risk of renting. This premium is also their profit. If they rented below mortgages rates they would losing money! Of course you need to be in a position to get a good mortgage before this makes sense, until then you will have to live with being fleeced on renting market.

    Cloud computing in its original sense has nothing to do with mainframes and client/server models.

    HOWEVER...

    All so-called "cloud" services are not really cloud-based in the original sense, but are in fact all mainframe services. Not just similar to mainframes... They are fucking mainframes in EVERY SINGLE WAY! And the clients using them are client/server based.

    It might be a simple rule, but it is not that simple in practise. For instance you don't cite you old math teacher on how you learned to add numbers or how to do simple algebra. This common sense extends to the common rule that you don't cite things that are prerequisite knowledge for the targeted audience. This is where things get tricky, what the targeted audience is supposed to know and what you are allowed to helpfully explain to make the paper more accessible to those outside the targeted audience, is very debatable.

    I loathe 24 fps, NTSC broadcast in 60 fields per second was nice, HDTV at 30 frames per second is a step backward AFAIC.

    Yeah, especially for sports. Interlace is really a superior technology for watching sports.

    Power plants doesn't use drinking water, they have other sources of water and doesn't need to use expensive human-consumption grade drinking water. Toilets use drinking water, mostly because homes only have one source of water and it is human-consumption grade drinking water.

    We are NOT running out of water, so how much water power plants use is rather irrelevant, we are however running out of clean drinking water, so what toilets use IS relevant.

    Democratic republics are the best form of government yet tried. But pure democracy is impractical when you have hundreds of thousands of citizens.

    You mean direct democracy, unlike indirect democracy which is also a democracy?

    Sorry, neither of those are forms of governments, they are methods of ruling, and by nature direct democracy does not have a form of government!. Fprms of governments are usually either monarchy or republics, depending on whether the head of state is a king or a president. Either of those can ALSO be democracies, theocracies and usually secretly kleptocracies, neither of those attributes being forms of government.

    Noo. A republic is a form of government with a non-monarch as the head of state.

    Democracy is NOT a form of government but a philosophy of power. Most republics at least on paper pretends to be democracies, as in the power ultimately derives from the people. The key word here being ultimately, there can be several levels of indirection.

    So you have invented a new sign "Blinking green", that does WHAT YELLOW IS SUPPOSED TO DO!!!!

    Yellow is an indication that it will be red soon, and is there so you can judge if you can break before it switches to red, why on earth is anyone making entering yellow illegal. It defeats the entire purpose of yellow!

    Summary is wrong. The nouveau driver is several orders of magnitude FASTER than the proprietary driver.. Well, for 2D acceleration. It is quite slower for 3D, but I don't really play games on Linux, so 2D is more important to me.

    The nouveau driver really solves he Achilles heel of NVidia on Linux. 2D performance.

    All cars I have ever driven. Peugeot, Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Opel, Kia, Toyota, and probably a few others. I haver never seen steering wheel engage except after pulling the keys out and often also turning the wheel. Are you sure you are not confusing the lack of power steering with a locked steering wheel? You can still turn the wheel without power steering, it just takes more effort,

    The steering wheel isn't locked when the engine is turned off, it is just not powered, you can still turn it but it takes more effort.

    They still sound like a muffled tractor when idling though. It is a very distinct sound that doesn't really sound the way you "feel" a car should sound. Otherwise I agree. It is the sensible green choice, but not the "manly" choice ;)

    Hybrids doesn't sell very well if at all in Europe. Diesels are cheaper, more reliable and has WAY better mileage .

    Awesome, while obviously not the first choice I would make. This solution is definitely more efficient than the current legislation that is trying to achieve the very same thing!

    Simplicity and transparency. I fully support this (if we can't get an optimal solution)..

    QML2 is pretty cool. I had the same attitude to QML1, but QML2 is a pretty good language to program the GUI in, while doing still all the real work in C++. Essentially QML is to Qt Designer what LaTex is to Word.
