Having just got to University here in the UK I can agree with this. Essentially, half the kids here have never had a chance to do what they want before -- the amount of drinking is insane, coupled with sex etc etc. having had a relatively balanced time before now, the change hasnt really made a difference and I know what im doing with money, food, washing etc. (i've made all the mistakes before when it didnt matter so much -- particuarly with money). Half the people here are gonna have a real kick when the first of the big bills start coming (accomodation, tuition etc) not having got to the point of parenting yet (thank god) it seems like a hell of a balancing act, jsut remember you cant shield them from school just try to make sure you let them have the necessary freedom/knowledge before it comes from less trustworthy sources at school

  5. Parents Opinoun? on Manhunt Violence Story Sees Updates, Threats · · Score: 1

As i understand it the victims parent blamed the game - not exactly a qualified opinoun especially when you consider the fact that they were aware they played the game together - its an "18" game, any parent letting two 13year olds play such a game, especially if they take the time to look at it themselves are, in my eyes, negligent. All i can see here is media hype as a result of a parent trying to blame someone other than herself. I cant see how the two kids could be quite "right" either..

  6. Re:Proposal on NTSB Recommends Black Boxes For All Cars · · Score: 1

I think following the UK Data Protection Act may help here -- assentially when data from the black box is accessed it can only be used for the purposes stated - namely data on the journey that resulted in, say an accident - data obtained on previous offenses would not be valid evidence and could only be taken for use in criminal proceeding if other evidence, such as traffic cameras linked the vehicle to such an offense.

Underage drinking is doing the opposite of taking profit away from the various companies that provide alcohol. Whilst, strictly its just s wrong as some might see this as (PIX building), when young people under 18 can drink alcohol sensibly (in other words dont end up dead in their own vomit) people tend to ignore the fact that they have no ID.

Just because everyone does it, and that it generally doesnt hurt anyone doesnt make it right. We cant say that one thing should be prosecuted for because the law said so and that another shouldnt be even though the law says so. That said, assuming of course you had a meal with it and are older than 14 it isnt underage drinking :)
