From everything i have heard unix is the os preferred for companies that want rock solid stability. Linux does not have that perception according to a newsfactor report.
The argument that open source is better for reliability just because alot have access to the source is not really true. No one had source to Unix but it was reliable. Also Doesn't BSD have a better uptime than linux?
are you kidding ? Prices are 500 dollars less for equal performance on a pc. They can charge what the want , but I am not impressed with fancy ads. Nothing really unique about apple anymore.

Their is no profit incentive to give apple their best processor for a discount. The prices IBM would be asking would put a bigger price tag on apple' already overpriced computers.

Before i getted modded down can someone explain to me about the new story submitting process. Why does it take 8 hours for something to be mentioned on this website that claims to have NEWS. Linus, don't worry the 86x architecture will stick around for years for the mainstream users because intel wants that Itanium to be sold to rich corporate customer's servers.
None of us are going to be using it so listening to all these people bitch about it makes no sense.
The itanium sounds nice - parallel processing,reg renaming, big cache , and good fl.point.
The only problem may be the heat generated and maybe the inablity to put the pedal on the CLOCK FREQ.
If your a company and you make alot fat profits on your server chips(64bits & Xeons) , you don't want the price of those products going down. It's done all the time in the business. They keep their fastest line of processors out of the hands of the mainstream public so can charge triple the prices to rich corporate buyers that want the latest and best. I am just wondering how long Intel will wait to bring out an affordable Itanium. Any guesses?

I see Barbara Walters uses an apple on 20/20. She displays it proudly. I personally don't get what apple does that people think is worth a buy. Their computers are expensive,500 to 1000 dollars over similar pc clone.

The phone manufacturers could add some software and modems and then why not have a convergence of technologies like France had with minitel but with cellphones and all other types of phones. Have you ever called a local store to find a certain product but too late and they they had closed ? If you could just call their personal BBS/OS then you could see if they stocked what you were looking for and store hour times.
There you have it. If these idiot electronic companies could get together with a plan to install this stuff then i think life would be easier for everybody. I don't think it could be done without government prodding though.
