Beyond Advance Wars, you've got Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Tactics Ogre, heck, even F-Zero took a while to get through. With the GBA, portable gaming has definitely branched out into absorbing, long-lasting gameplay (the pokemon series notwithstanding).
"Of course, I say that now, but styli tend to make my hand cramp so I might not be good with the DS."
I assume you don't use a tiny wooden pencil to write with, right? The styli that come with PDA's and the like are basic no-frills versions. You can go and buy a nicer one for $10-15 or so, one that's thicker so your hand doesn't cramp.
Lol... the feature you're most interested in is your character gaining weight. Perhaps you'd be more interested in something that skips the violence and gets straight into what you're interested in?
With respect to Mr. Stephenson, you might do better to find a copy of _Snow Crash_. Not that the Baroque cycle isn't entertaining, but Snow Crash is far, far superior.
Just like with the GBA, it'll be nice to try out games in Japanese before they arrive here in NA. Nintendo is really doing everything it can to make sure it *won't* screw over their customers.
Sidebar: will it really be cheaper for Europeans to import their systems from Asia as opposed to North America, though? Anybody?
On retrospect, I guess I exaggerated a bit. Trip to the doctor's once every two months or so, barring special circumstances. I have chronic asthma that needs to be controlled with several hundreds of dollars of medication per month & needs to be regulated so that my dosages are correct. It's worth it - before my current regime, I was pretty much reduced to walking only, but now I can jog for a bit and bicycle all the time. So no, I'm not "fucking up the system for the rest of you."
I totally disagree with you on the "frivolous fee" imposed on people for Medicare. Who gets to decide that? Bureaucrats. Which means it would eventally turn into a "pay now, get a refund later, maybe."
"If there were a small financial penalty for each frivilous visit to the doctor people wouldn't be going to the doctor with a runny nose." I'm sorry, I'm a conservative, but even this is conservative FUD. When was the last time you went to the doctor for a frivolous reason? When was the last time anybody you knew went for no reason? "I'm bored, so let's go sit at the doctor's office for a couple of hours just to, you know, sit around and read magazines." If somebody goes to a doctor, it's because they have a darn good reason to do so.
One day, when I'm earning more than $15,000 per year, I might think it's a good idea to start charging people for medicare. As it is, people on *welfare* make more money than my wife and I do. I've chosen to work, go to school, and hopefully make something of myself on my own. People on welfare get free drugs, I don't. I know that you couldn't have possibly known this, but the FUD you hear in the media, that we need customers to start paying into the medicare system, will do nothing but screw over people like me even more.
For better or worse, I keep on hearing this up here in Canada: Americans are concerned with individual freedom, Canadians are concerned with the freedom/good of the whole society. This is reflected in our subsidised child care, free health care, social programs for the poor, etc. I'm not sure if I agree with this blanket statement, but this dialectic is *everywhere* - media, higher education, politics, etc. Anyway, my point is that we, as Canadians, give up certain things (i.e. our money, as we're taxed to death) so that those who are well-off don't have to suffer as much.
I was watching SpikeTV yesterday & saw that they were having a contest for men: go to the doctor, get a checkup, and try to win a trip to Carnival. Apparently some people haven't seen a doctor in 10 years! I'm not well off by any stretch of the imagination (student, young family), but I also happen to be sick quite a lot and see a doctor once every month or so. I cringe at the thought of paying $100 per visit to the doctor (this is how much my folks in the US pay - middle class, no health coverage).
I know that/. is US-centric, so forgive me for pointing out flaws in the US, but without free health care I don't know what I would do. From the perspective of an outsider, Lessig is absolutely right. I'm glad that my kids, when they're starting out on their own too, won't have to sacrifice their health because of the health care system in Canada (if the current system holds) - then again, the way that we're screwing up the air right now, they're probably going to need it.
Not sure why you were modded troll, but here goes anyway: Fraudsters usually have one MO - offering big ticket items (digital cameras, notebook comps, etc.) for a lot less than retail, not a ton of lower-priced items in one lot. Such users usually bump up their record by selling lots of $0.01 items, like baseball cards or stamps or the like before they go for the big money.
This seems a little too strange for a fraud. Too creative, you know? If somebody *really* wanted to defraud people, he'd sell each item separately (or in lots) all at the same time, so by the time all the cheques cleared he'd be long gone. By selling all these systems in one lot, he's probably not going to get as much as he would selling them individually. Note that this logic usually applies to newer items, and not 20 year old consoles, so YMMV;)
I really can't see why you'd *want* a light gun for any PC game. Imagine playing UT2004 with one hand on WASD and the other on your gun;)
Music stuff (mats, bongos etc) would be VERY cool, however (and IIRC such mats do exist for the pc) - imagine DDRing to your own MP3 collection! Fun stuff.
The RIAA's reputation is such that even if they did try to adapt a "download off of P2P and send the money directly to the artist" system, we wouldn't believe them. Also, as to the "keeping [uploaders] out of jail" in the description: even the linked wiki page said that the people who would be going to jail is the producers of p2p software, not uploaders.
Until somebody actually goes to jail for uploading (not including selling CDs or whatever, simply pure uploading), geek society as a whole is not going to take the RIAA seriously, and those of us who are less than scrupulous (or Canadian;) ) aren't going to think twice about downloading versus buying.
I'm sure that Paypal is drooling over the possibility of being the sole provider of micropayments for the direct record label "store," though;)
The screenshots that AMD provided were a comparison between the 32 bit version on low detail and the 64 bit version on high detail. I would call that deceptive, at the very least. I looked at the screenshots provided in the article and couldn't see what the difference between the two versions were, even when I was told exactly what to look for.
Ha. I was wondering about the significance of "death of the auteur," not "auteur" itself. Remember, at the time of my posts the linked article didn't work. People sometimes use fancy-schmancy words that they don't know the meaning of so that people think that they're clever.
Master of Arts in English literature, thesis track (focusing on Wiliam Gibson and the role of technology as a substitute for religion in Neuromancer, Count Zero & Mona Lisa Overdrive). Also, I can assure you that I do not need an assistant in the second definition that you gave.
Believe it or not, up till a few months ago, nothing. No firewall, no AV, nothing. I turned off HTML viewing in Outlook as well as the preview pane & used Opera instead of IE. Three months ago I got a wireless router (WRT54G Linksys, for my laptop), which apparently adds a level of security, but I really don't think it's necessary.
For the people who think that windows isn't secured: I've ran WinXP since its inception unprotected and haven't caught *anything* (I run adaware and a free online virus checker once every couple of months).
"This isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you think you'll really like the game, it may be more enjoyable to play the polished retail version than the beta."
Of course, playing the beta is *free*, whereas the polished product will cost mucho dinero. I hate to be all Marxist and bring up economics, but in this case (or any MMOG, for that matter), economics is key - I refuse to keep on paying for a game that I've already purchased.
I should also point out that I'm a MA student in English literature and have taken a "death of the author" course and have never seen it spelled like "auteur." Sorry for harping on this point, but is this supposed to be clever, or a pun, inside joke, or what?
But aren't they subsidised (in a way) by concert sales, merchandise sales, etc.?
Stardock has been releasing games online and offline for a while now, and their method is *much* less draconian than Steam's.
Sandbox and crack, my friend. This will not be a problem 10 years down the road.

Battery power is crucial on a notebook comp. Your first reason could very likely be it.
Sure thing, sweet lips. Keep on telling yourself that.

Are you referring to Neil Gaiman or Neal Stephenson?
With respect to Mr. Stephenson, you might do better to find a copy of _Snow Crash_. Not that the Baroque cycle isn't entertaining, but Snow Crash is far, far superior.
Yeah, but not everybody is a vindictive basta... oh hell, I know I'd do it too if a huge corporation would be footing the bill.

Funny... that's exactly why I set my "expectations" to "download in queue."

We're geeks & don't need to worry about the "other" blue pill - don't worry, we understood ;)
Wonder if this would improve on the distribution times between the US and England - they get US films much later than we do and vice versa.
