Any company that can make people like us excited about what they do and what they have in the pipeline is going to be in the spotlight time and time again. What else do you expect from those who thrive on tech news and new techs.
Is the main idea, and it is done by Google having a pool of advertisers ready to put in ads, and Google gets a "discounted rate" because they are always giving out ads consistently and easily. Very interesting, reminds me of the Costco (or Sam's Club) of advertising.
Is this something that could potentially be used by Apple for the PowerBook G5? They are going to have to do something different to make it all work inside the 1" case.
Mind you, the characteristics you are describing are not inherent in robots. Humans have conscience, or the ability to be self-aware, to step back and be able to look at one's self. This then empowers us to realize what we need, what is lacking, etc. Robots et al. can have sensors up the ying yang, but programming a "conscience" will be awfully difficult. They will only be able to improve upon themselves based on the data they gather from their sensors, rather than from their conscience as we can.
I had a sidekick for about 2 years. Good and bad with it. It was one of those impressive gadgets for a while, flip it open and people said "whoooooa". But then the screen wouldn't light up when it flipped open. Sometimes it feels like a brick. I could SSH and chat on it, but no real other applications and of course no sync. Of course I got a blackberry a few months ago, and now they announce this. I wouldn't go back to a sidekick again. The blackberry is nice, but I long to be able to write with a stylus. And if you want to buy a program, everything is like 50 bucks! What happened to the $5 apps I used to buy for my handspring!!
To find out more about the connection, look at this commentary. If you want more in depth information about the Mormons, look at mormon.org, an official "info" site from the Church.
Interesting to see the basis of some of the things in the show...
I'm a Mormon, but that still doesn't answer my question. Does he read a lot? Has he studied jeopardy for years and years preparing? Or has he just worked hard to get a good education and memorize lots of facts not really important to every day life? Scientifically Mormons have just been shown to have less cancer and better health, and Mormon men generally do have more education than non-Mormon men.
What makes Ken so amusing? I don't have cable so I can't check it out for myself.
I like the idea of contestants (like Ken) taking Trebek's spot. Maybe just for a show or two. However, Trebek just reads the question and the answer, so there really isn't much required (other than presentation, rules monitoring, keeping things going, acting stuff, etc.).
Anyone know background information more on Ken too? Does he just ingest everything he reads...has no life...or just is super smart. I read about a kid that won the geography bee and he attributed it to his parent's rule of only educational video games. Something I would like for my own kids.
SAME ISSUE HERE!
I kept killing it from terminal but it kept coming back alive. 2 reboots later and I am happy again.
I also had 2 sh processes going on that I couldn't kill, so that was weird.
It's not that the RIAA et al. is making more money, it is that they are squandering musicians. Sorry if I was not more clear.
Not a hippie, though I use a hiptop (sidekick...t-mobile).
Obviously the RIAA is feeling optimistic about the future of legally downloaded music, and wants to get the price hike in now while they can. Obviously this does no good other than inflate their pocket books, and many of you (me too) believe this is flat-out wrong.
I suggest we all email Bill O'Reilly, who is a guy that gets things done when there is an outrage (this is one).
Perhaps if there is a price hike, we start a BOYCOTT (like the French one...that is hurting them big) for any music priced above $0.99. Please email Bill and let him hear you out. If enough of us do, we can make something happen.
I think the $50 investment isn't just to pay for this app suite, but it also goes towards new innovation, research, etc. that will one day benefit you too! I can't believe people are so surprised they charge for software. This sofware is worth hundreds, but they practically give it away for $50. If you complain, go cry home and buy a Dell. Then you will really be hating life.
Just got one of these as a gift. Fits my 15" Ti Powerbook perfectly, and I can slip it into any bag. They have a cool image that shows when they dropped a 100g ball on it a piece of glass inside did not even shatter. Anyhow, these bags are made out of this COOL foam that is amazing. You put your fingers on it and your print stays there for a minute or two. High quality everything, and for a good price. 30 bucks. shinza.com
I would like to be able to have a set of things I need to remember, even an image or something, flash on my screen so that I don't notice it but that I am using my "stare" time for not only work but also other things like school. Any programs for controlling this?? I am on an apple powerbook. Someone want to make it and sell it for a few bucks?
europeans get US credit cards; USPS good candidate

Could this be a way for europeans to get US credit cards (if a service was used in the US like this Australian one)? I know a lot of mac users wish they had a US Credit card to use iTunes, among other things.
Also, the USPS seems to be hurting due to electronic mail. What if they offered a service like this for a premium. They surely would have some takers. And they would just need to buy some big automated scanners and a bit of online infrastructure. Sounds like they would be the best candidates for the job seeming they are the hub. Reduce ID theft en route that way.
The aquada website says it is powerful enough to pull a water skiier. The question is, does it have the fittings for a tow rope? Now THAT would be a blast. No more towing boats with your SUV.
Netflix seemed to open a can of worms when they got a patent for selling DVDs online in a subscription basis, etc. Why can't Apple get a similar patent like that? Are they not the first to sell songs for 99 cents without a subscription? I think if done right this would limit the competition in what they can do, or at least down the road if cyclops (MS) follows suit they will have to make it not infringe.
The mere speed and size of biological communication and information storage gives modern computing technology much to reach for. We are talking about nanometer size particles that store an incomparable amount of information, and when something needs to be done it isn't more than a phosphorylation (occurring in what, 10^-14 seconds) seconds away.
Everything technology attempts to mimic everything natural, like your monitor for example. It is a visual representation of the world and the information therein. The ultimate monitor would be in fact one that lays over your whole visual system giving you endless possiblities as far as resolution and "frames per second" type things.
A keyboard is just the liason between your brain and the computer. If your brain talked directly to your computer, now that would be fast and much less labor intensive. That is what we are all aiming for, thus the "wearable computers" and things like Dasher (pretty cool IMO). Input needs to be faster because our brains are fast.
"iPod also includes a notes reader that lets you download text-based information and read it on the screen. This way you can have the information you need ? on everything from restaurant reviews to nightlife guides, and from news articles to exercise routines at your fingertips". http://www.apple.com/ipod
Sounds to me like they are evolving into a PDA one feature at a time. The BIG movement will be two-fold: new screen and input mechanism, and programmability (or use Newton applications). Sorry, no iWalk...just the iPod extreme.
Some good points, but you and I both know that Apple is smarter than you and I both. Has Apple ever surprised you? I think we will be surprised this time seeing a product out in the not so distant future. But who knows...
I don't know if I am off the deep end, but it seems to me Apple didn't figure they would make BILLIONS off of selling songs for 99 cents.
I do think they figured they would be able to sell their iPods at an increasing rate (which they have a much better profit margin on; 110,000 new iPods ordered this last week).
They also are opening their arms to a new customer base, music-lovers. Now music-lovers will buy an iPod because they are amazing, but then will think: "if this is so cool, I should try the new iBook or PowerBook". Then Apple makes more profit there too. Who agrees? This is where they make their money, and then they have an Apple customer for life. Not bad for starting with a 99 cent sale.
I am an Apple customer for life, but mine started with 2500 dollars for a PowerBook.:) Either way, life is easier with an Apple.
Amidst hundreds of comments I tried to see if anyone did any "real" number crunching to see what Apple's profit is per song...based on the posted statistics that is. And instead of spending hours searching...I decided to post my calculations. I took calculus once, and have needed it since, but didn't remember it, so I didn't use it, and I certainly didn't use it here. Just simple math. Now if we actually had some real numbers (somehow I don't buy the fact that we are getting real statistics out, or ever will).
275,000 songs sold X $0.99 per song = $272,250.00 exchanged
$100,000 profit / $272,250 exchanged = $0.3673095 per song
So the other 62.26905 cents is going to...the labels and artists?
Only reply if your Math GRE score was better than mine.

Mason-powered site for searching Utah Homes and foreclosures.
That was my sig. Ok, yes it was an advertisement. But hey, I built the site.
Was this problem here before? Looks like both sites have the exact same issue, but from my quick HTML glance I couldn't tell what was causing it.

Remember buying anything within a month or so of a big apple conference is probably not wise, unless you are REALLY ready to get disappointed.
