Most IP address are on internal networks. Most companies would need 3-4 world readable IP address max. I mean Redhat doesn't have 100 IP address that a customer can visit, they have a few, but on the internal network I DO bet they have a NAT IP address.
I know that's what I do, and all the business owners I know do. I think the NAT methodology is the best because it will prevent the expence of converting, plus everyone can use whatever IP address they want internally in their company.
Because of this Germany may also be moving away from software that may have potential secret backdoors written in for the NSA. No matter how much you get in rebates, it will never give a government the peace of mind of having compiled and inspected the code yourself.
Sorry, don't believe it. You're just repeating an urban legend.
This is a true story. I told her it was just a mascot, but she said it made her feel uncomfortable because in the back of her mind she wanted a positive Christian business. Solaris for her was an acceptable alternative because the cost of the servers were about the same plus she got the benefit of having the SPARC architecture and no BSD Daemon on her server.
I know some christians who won't let their kids participate in halloween, others who won't let their kids go to the theatres, and still others who don't believe in dancing. But I've never once run across one who thought that a cartoon representation of a red guy with horns and tail was satanic.
I know, but she doesn't understand computers she only understands her business which is a christian bookstore and her faith. It is not about being overly sensetive over a mascot it is about knowing that she is being faithful to her religion by not supporting an OS whose founders decided to put a daemon as a mascot. It would be like putting a darwin sticker on her car..it isn't a big deal to some people, but it would be to her.
And besides, if Solaris can do the job at almost the same price but with the benefit of a RISK SPARC Server, why not?
Also, why are you judging what she should take seriously and what she shouldn't? She is a good woman and just like some people in your chuch don't celebrate Halloween, she doesn't have Servers whose logo is a daemon on her business computers. There is nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't make her a "National Enquirer" reader.

If this lawsuit goes against linux, could this be the rebirth of BSD to the mainstream? The lawsuits in the early 90s nearly killed it, but now it is legally clear, so if Linux has problems legally we could revive BSD.
Although there is a problem because FreeBSD has problems with Christian owned companies in my experience. One of my clients got offended when I installed an OS whose logo was a Daemon. She made me install Solaris instead of FreeBSD because she didn't want a "Satanic" OS.
Thanks to Linux, Unix is now a commodity and corporations must find a new way to add value. You can't keep expecting people to buy the same product year in and year out. Linux is a success because like any other product, eventually it becomes a commodity like textiles and companies cannot charge a premium for commodities.
Software has the potential to be distributed almost cost free, and that demand for a commoditized Unix came in the form of Linux. Microsoft must commoditize Windows or else risk losing complete market share to Linux.
This is why SGI is in trouble. Unix can now run on commodity hardware on a free Unix clone, Linux. What SGI needs to do is invest in research for the next business cycle and NOT FIRE EMPLOYEES. Doing so will hamper its chances for survival in the future.
..called Unix Haters, it has all the benefits spelled right out. Lets give him some more Slashdot "bru ha ha" http://research.microsoft.com/~daniel/unix-haters. html
In all seriousness the best way is to just use open source where ever you can and not let the boss know. When your division is making money due to lower expenses you get the bonus!
PostgreSQL should be the number one open source database because it supports SQL92 standards like transactions. I can see PostgreSQL being number one in the enterprise once Bruce and the guys at PostgreSQL.org implement Replication.(Replication for postgresql is available for the commercial version).
In the industralized nations, being circumcised leaves you at a GREATER risks of HIV infection. The Amercan Cancer Society wrote a scathing report on the AAPs circumcision position saying that the complications from circumcision are far greater than cancer, and as for the UTIs, you are right there is a greater chance for UTIs. But circumcisions have bacterial infection problems that have resulted in death, as well as a host of problems such as too much skin being removed. There are more of these type of problems in cirucmcisions then in UTIs.(BTW females have a larger UTI problem then even uncircumcised males, should we have girls circumcised?)
Also keep in mind that the foreskin is equivelant to the clitoral hood. In that sense, the AAPs policy on female circumcision should be extended to males because according to the AAP female circumcision should NOT be done under any circumcstance even religous or cultural.
By the way, my being fat, bald, and unattractive has nothing to do with the validity of my points. I am all of the above, but that doesn't change the fact the neonatal circumcision is wrong. If you want to have it done as an adult, that is YOUR choise because people can do what the want when they reach the age of majority. Otherwise you are just like the chinese who bound children's feet or the female type 1 circumcisers(ie. where only the clitoral hood is removed).
You are wrong go to the AAP just released findings that babies feel severe pain during circumcision. Go to aap.org and look up their taskforce on circumcision policy. Studies have been done that show circumcised boys have a higher response to pain later in life( i.e., getting immunizations than females and uncircumcised males). Their new policy on circumcision says it should not be routine, and that pain relief is a must.
The US has one of the highest AIDs rates in the developed world, and it has one of the highest circumcision rates. Safe sex with condoms prevents AIDS, NOT circumcision.
Go to aap.org or nocirc.org to find out the FACTS. If you want to get tatoos, piercings, clitoral hood removal, circumcsion at 18 that is your choise, otherwise it is mutilation.
Most people think something is worthless if it is free. Human psychology makes people need to be sodomized before they can appreciate something, whether it is through high cost (Oracle), or restrictive licensing (MS and Bitkeeper). It takes a rare breed of humans to truly appreciate free software, and that's probably why Linux is used by only 2% of computer users.
All this hardware authentication will slow down most programs because of all the extra steps needed to authenticate whether a program can run or not. I think that the Palladium free Hardware will most likely be 10-22% faster than the ones equiped with this. How do I know this? Let's just say a little bird told me.:-)
They already do this in p0rn. Private is a company that released a feature which had people floating in space while having sex. I think the film was called "the Uranus Experiment". A very hot flick, especially the weightless scenes in outerspace, and the sex with aliens.
With companies switching to Linux on x86 instead of expensive SGI machines the cost of adding a workstation is greatly reduced. That means they can hire more animators who can then work on lots of shows. Windows just eats money and sends it to the empire, reducing productivity and cutting jobs. Linux is freedom because it lets you save money on software costs, and therefore you can be more productive by hiring more people. If more people saw the linux light, then we could be out of the recession faster because companies wouldn't have to fork out for Microsoft's new licensing scheme.
History has shown time and again that restrictive systems fail. That is why communism, and all the other toltarian states eventually crumble. What will happen to the DMCA enabled systems is that they will get fewer and fewer buyers and supporters until their clout is diminished to the point that they can't fund the lobbyists anymore. That is why Linux is such a success. Microsoft defeated every company that tried to make money selling software, and eventually they all died out. Linux is a prime example of evolution at it's best, because it doesn't need money and therefore cannot be killed. Microsoft will not be able to beat linux just in the same way that DCMA will eventually become so weak that it too will die under the *future* innovations.
Why don't you just make it a site where you can hire open source developers? Donations seem too much like charity, and I think it can be demeaning to those who write the features you want.
Codeproject is the best site for MFC and Win32 programming. No Linux or Unix info unfortunatly. It does have a fun lounge that I frequent often though.:-)
I like the balance of distos. Some like Redhat allow you to try the latest and greatest, while Debian goes for the tried and tested. Linux has a distro for everyone!! This is consumer choise, where it proves that you don't need to be upgrading every year to boost MS's profits while subjecting you as a beta tester for a "final release."
Oh my god! It's an OS X like GUI that runs on Linux. The desktop issue that Linux always had has been solved! Right On, we knew it was bound to happen, but the desktop is finally better than Mac and Windows.
Here's the screenshots link that someone posted already in this thread. http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/users/tom/kde31alpha/
Wouldn't it be better if they waited until they had major improvements before they released a distribution? I buy my CDs from the store, and this is ridiculus! Every 6 months I upgrade and there isn't that much difference.
Make it much better and release it as version 8. Get the new GCC in there, and make it support more processors and throw in StarOffice for the price you charge for the Distro.
Show me a list of people who've been put in jail for copyright violations - I am going to bet that the list for people who trade MP3s and have gotten jail sentences is either very short or non-existent.
Actually, copyright violations are treated very seriously. Here is a link for you: Wired
Microsoft commits illegal actions and practically gets away with it, while if you copy software the BSA will get you.
If you swap MP3s you are going to jail for copyright violations, but price fixing by huge corporations is OK. I'm so glad the Justice Department has their priorities strait.

Before the war, there was an article on how the US was spying on countries to see how they would vote on the war resolution in the UN.

'This game is free (as in beer)'.
Where do you get free beer? The last time I checked, beer costs money...unless of course you are a hot chick..
