Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp for some people?"

this is not a difficult concept. what is difficult, is the fact that if said refund is promised by the eula, and the eula is a binding contract, this it should take ABSOLUTELY NO EFFORT to get this refund. if it takes going to court, fine. go to court, because if its as clear cut as everyone says, MS loses and they pay your lawyer fees.

once again, i present my case that just the mere fact that no one has attempted such a thing leads me to believe that its not as clear cut as you and the rest of the advocates would have one believe.

as a reply to the "Iraqi" and "donut" comments... its a philosophy issue really. say it how you will but, "ignorance is bliss." remember life sucks when you know you are getting screwed, but its just fine if you think thats the way it is. i'd like to throw out another theory. there is the argument that dell (and others) is strongarmed into the MS dealings. and that may have some merit, but think about it this way, how many linux/bsd people do you know that are just hankering to get their hands on that new dell machine because its just a great piece of hardware. in my experience, not many. people who are very against windows on their machines either hate MS or they are using illegal copies. point is, 99% of dell customers need windows!

i dont know why people dont like macs. but some dont. i personally love em. i'm saving my cash to get one. i think they are the neatest thing since sliced bread. and i share your feelings about linux. it can be a real p.i.t.a sometimes.

a manufacturer that pre-installs windows on their machines is not the devil for it. like it or not, most people use windows, and its good business practice to be able to pre-install it and probably cut the end user a little bit off the price of paying for the os retail.

not everyone likes linux and mac. not everyone can build machines. most people dont like the attitude on this web site, cuz its so intolerant. its time to quit bitching and understand that the world does not need to "be freed from microsoft."

the arguement for functional languages is that programs written with them are faster to develop and maintain as that is an inherant part of the language. the problem is, for programs that become abnormally large (like openoffice) they often become unmanagable.

now i have heard nothing that actually dictates why this is, but i venture to say that this problem could be aided by development environments. i dont see how the development of huge amounts of c code is any different than huge amounts of lisp code other than the fact that lisp (and other functional languages) don't seem to have the same support in terms of a good dev. enviro.

course i think the whole world should be using lisp, that way i'd have some good tools to use with it once!
