Don't worry about it, this is classic FUD. Not only are carrier OTA blocked by default, but most popular mods have their own (optional) OTA system to keep you up to date.
To be absolutely precise, MTBF is calculated as units*hours/failures.
So if you test 1000 widgets for one year and get 12 failures, you get a MTBF of 176640 hours, or roughly 20 years. But the widget could still very well have a 100% failure rate of 2 years.
MTBF is misleading as it uses hours as base units, but it is not a measurement of time! It is a somewhat arbitrary reliability index that is only useful for comparing like devices with similar expected lifespans.
My point being, you can't use it to compare hard drives to magnetic tapes.
MTBF does not mean what you think it means. Don't worry, it is very common;P
MTBF is commonly confused with a component's useful life, even though the two concepts are not directly related. For example a battery may have a useful life of four hours, and an MTBF of 100,000 hours. These figures indicate that in a population of 1,000,000 batteries, there will be approximately ten battery failures every hour during a single battery's four-hour life span. [wikipedia]
So MTBF is a useless statistic without knowing either useful life or number of units in operation.
1) Are you really advocating tyranny by majority? Censorship is evil, popular support does not make it OK.
2) There was no evidence of "majority" support. Maybe Atkinson did believe it, but he certainly wasn't listening to his constituents.
3) [minor issue] Your gaming demographic is off. The average age is over 25, and most of them are quite computer illiterate.
But the real problem is that there are still many, many, many websites that DO NOT WORK unless you are using MS-Windows with Internet Explorer.
That is laying it on a bit thick - Back in the day there may have been some quirks, but I haven't used that configuration since the late 90's and I can't even recall ONE public site that did not or does not work.
Corporate environments are different of course, but honestly - if they haven't weaned themselves of IE by now you would be examining the situation closely to determine who should be fired for incompetence.

No reason this couldn't be accomplished with a set top box with pass-thu. Only one input source as far as the display is concerned - just press the "TV" (or "DVD" or "XBox" or "Internet") button on your GTV remote.
You have just described Games for Windows down to a T.
If they just called it XboxPC or something you would have expected half-baked ports and rough edges. 'Games for Windows' is just insulting. I've played games that were made for Windows thank you Microsoft, and these don't count.
Its not a bad idea you know. I was in the exact same situation as the submitter, and found it really hard to drop certain bad habits.
I switched to dvorak layout on a qwerty keyboard, which enforces proper typing discipline. Once I had that down (only took a couple of weeks) then switched back to qwerty for good. Those two weeks of dvorak taught me more about typing then 20 years of qwerty.
Take a deep breath and remember that if users were savy enough to read and understand error messages - well, what would they need you for? You are there to make their jobs easier, not the other way around.
Strikes me that [self] learning to program a calculator is probably a better test of aptitude then most of assessments given to students.
In fact, educators may as well accept that programmable devices are here and integrate them into the curriculum. You could have programming assignments during the year to ensure that students were not just copying, and by the end of year assessments students would have some pretty awesome tools to work with.
Of course, this might require teachers to "learn" something, so I'm not holding my breath.
Do the majority of customers like it? Would I have bought it? Funny criteria for deciding if it is censorship or not. But for the sake of arguement, I can tell you that over 6 million users downloaded the Suicide Girls application.
I don't know if you are familiar with Suicide Girls, but it is a website run by women for women celebrating body modification and the female form. It is a widely respected site, and the photography is generally considered to fall into the "art" category.
So why was Suicide Girls pulled, but Sports Illustrated and Playboy were not? I can take a few guesses. Maybe the name made Apple uncomfortable. Maybe they don't feel that the kind of sexuality being celebrated jibes with the Apple image. Maybe Steve doesn't like tattoos.
Whatever it is - the fact that mainstream male-centric "jiggly boobs" applications are allowed, but alternative female-centric "jiggly boobs" are not is clearly censorship. It is also offensive to women and rational thinking men.
Do I think it is a good thing to try and limit the junk apps?
I can see how this would be a good thing if the Apple appstore was the merely the "offical" appstore, and you had the option to use others. Regrettably this is not the case, Apple have positioned themselves as gatekeepers, so shouldn't have that luxury.
I took the GP to mean all our non-biodegradable trash will still be here, even if our data isn't. 1000's of years from now they will be able to determine our diet, occupations and pastimes without the need for digital data.
Actually, I would say the real problem is binary blobs. Who needs (or even wants) the manufacturer/provider if you have source code?
Example: I ran 2.0 on my G1 for a while - but because the G1 used a closed 3D driver I couldn't have 3D. Back to 1.6 for now until somebody hacks together a 2.0 compatible driver:(
Classic cars. When I was living in Europe about a decade ago there was a rush on classics - the consensus was that there was a limited supply and all the low hanging fruit was already gone. Collectors panicked and paid insane prices.
Anyway, those cars are now worth about half of what people were paying for them 10 years ago. But you know what? There is a limited supply of early Aston Martins and Jaguars, so as long as the cars actually survive long enough, they will probably see those prices again.
If we ever get Bin Ladin in the sights of one of these things, it'll be well worth the investment.
Does anybody really believe this anymore? The trillions of dollars wasted, not to mention the erosion of civil liberties and human rights, will all make sense if we could just kill one man? Please. The US government has demonstrated it is a bigger threat to peace and security then Bin Laden ever was.
[Nintendo's] habits of rejecting tinkering and death grip on ancient and irrelevant copyrights drives them to all sorts of clever ways to piss off their customers.
That's overstating it a bit. The wii does not have anything like the DRM that competition has. It is very hackable and the homebrew scene is healthy. Not to mention the DS is the most hacked-to-death toy out there.
Their copyrights are hardly "irrelevant" either. Its not like Super Mario is abandonware, they still sell copies of their ancient titles for current systems.
Sony is a hardware company who just happens to depend on software to keep them afloat.
I put it to you that Sony is a content company that just happens to have a hardware division.

targeting games that "require cruel acts of violence against humans and humanlike creatures for in-game success”
Interesting wording. They may be seeking not to ban depiction of violent behaviour, but rather to ban the REWARD of it.
I can actually see the merit in the distinction, but banning of course is going to far.

For your viewing pleasure, Boobies & Kittens. Probably safe for work. Probably.
Are you sure you are not confusing "internet" with "web browser"?

It has cut down on the drug dealers, kids hanging out, street performers, and the homeless
That's an odd group of people to lump in together. It is almost as if they want to cut down on the community itself.
Seriously, I can see dealers being undesirable, but street performers?

Apple is just using it's freedom of choice.
By needlessly and arbitrarily limiting the choice of its paying customers? And you think this is a good thing?
Actually, I would say the real problem is binary blobs. Who needs (or even wants) the manufacturer/provider if you have source code?

Care to explain how they act the same?
Come now, you haven't noticed the striking similarity?
Both argue that overwhelming scientific consensus is wrong, and established working models are "just a theory".
They then point out that theory by definition can not be proven, so dismiss it without bothering to disprove anything.

If they want a piece of the used game market it is very easy. They should simply compete for it by heavily discounting old titles.
Beg to differ, but for many years miniDisk was the standard for recording live performances. Many still prefer them to hard disk based recorders.
Musicians are rarely AV nerds and they value things differently.

Technical win or no, the specification was designed by and for the content industry. Epic Fail.
