I don't know how you were brought up, but do you remember you parents/teachers/other appropriate adults, telling you how good it was to share, despite, perhaps your initial reluctance (or downright refusal) to do so?

So parents now have to tell their children it's bad to share?

"Don't share, or the nasty RIAA monster will come and take all your toys away!"

It's not morally wrong to share.

Illegal?... well, maybe, but then the law's a law unto itself.

I buy all my games (I only 'acquire' very expensive utilities that I wouldn't be able to afford, or willing to pay the huge sums for considering my limited use of them (Photoshop/Wavelab etc.) (so no lost sale.))

GTA Vice City, plays ok on my machine, except for the fact that in a fit of paranoia it has to check the [copy protected] "Play" CD is in the drive, by reading audio data from the disc, instead of from the harddrive, where all said data is already stored.

It makes the game freeze everythime you get off a bike, out of a car, or it needs to load a new sound environment. It fscks the gameplay considerably.

No satisfactory responses from Rockstar tech support, who seem to be wilfully ignoring the exact nature of my complaint.

So I'm reduced to downloading a no-cd crack from Kazaa, which solves the problem in it's entirety, and I can now play the game as it was surely meant to be played - a smoothly as possible; with only the faint nagging thought in my head that come 12th of July, or whenever, the hacked .exe, is going to wipe my harddrive, or something.

    Thanks Rockstar Games.

Did that already. Voted Labour, they got in, backtracked on virtually all their commitments and promises, did things they gave no indication they would do (and indeed contradicted their stated beliefs and principles,) lied to us, and basically pulled a "bait and switch" manouever on us.

    And apparently all perfectly legal.

Your vote is worthless, as things stand. Once they get it, they can do as they please. Only when an elected party or 'representative' is legally bound to do their stated duty, and face harsh penalties if they reneigh on thier promises and stated intents, will a vote be worth anything.

I think you make a very good point; by purchasing RIAA affiliated (willingly enslaved?) artists' music, you're re-enforcing the idea in an artists' mind that by signing their soul, sorry, copyrights away to the RIAA, they will achieve success, fame, riches, etc. and that it is the ideal, or only way to do business.

If signing to the RIAA (it's members) nolonger ensures a reasonable chance of success, and perhaps hinders success, then that's going to dissuade people, which can only be good for us (cheaper CDs, dismantlement of the RIAA Empire and its associated actions) and them (keeping their copyrights, more favourable contracts, etc.)

    Tough love?

I have to say I agree. Stability is the issue for me, not speed (which seems oft complained about.) I tried Opera, and 'though sleek and quite lovely, it crashed like there was no tomorrow. IE6, crashes often enough for me to develop a special snarl for it, but I've never had a crash from Mozilla 1.3.1. A glitch with the Bookmarks displaying, once, and it was easily sorted out.

That does me, and now it's what I use every day.
