To properly assert one's "geek"ness and intellectual understanding of the subject matter, you must get the definitions right!
"sous vide - cooking food in a temperature-controlled water bath"
Sous-vide is NOT cooking in a water bath but rather cooking in a vacuum enclosed containter often immersed in a water bath.
A bain marie on the other hand, is specifically a method of cooking in a water bath. Often for the preparation of whole poached fish or other foods.:| Far too much time spent watching Alton....
IMHO: Joe Celko's SQL for Smarties (http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Celkos-SQL-Smarties-Programming/dp/0123693799/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books) has shown itself to be very nice book when the need to go beyond the basics to a little deeper understanding of SQL is needed.
There are many other books on the subject all the way to source material from Date and Dodd but Celko seems to be well informed and writes fairly well, I think.
"And low and behold, if you think of it as a bad hack job, then suddenly it all makes sense. And we know religions can be entirely fabricated. Scientology anyone?"
This argument against religion was always very interesting especially if you link it to scientology. Isn't this precisely one of the reasons Hubbard created scientology? To basically serve as a straw man argument against religion?? Therefore all of you agnostic/atheists who blast scientology appear to be either falling/jumping into bed with the founder of scientology! Congrats!
l've so often but rarely see any proof of such cuts in funding.. would YOU please cite what school and town you're referring to? Specific budgets pre and post cuts to prove your point. Otherwise. retract your assertion,
Maybe it's time to turn in your geek/nerd card....
Should sperm count/ fertility be a part of the entrance exam for CS and other science degrees??
... just a thought....
While I usually refer to myself as a geek, rather than a nerd (geek = nerd + personality [IMHO]) this is one that hits home with me. I've been married 2 years now and been trying to conceive for 3+ with no luck. Testing has determined that I have an abnormally low count (healthy in all other respects) and no current cause has been identified.
So no, being a geek/nerd DOESN'T mean you have better sperm, you INSENSITIVE CLOD!
A 500 GB HDD costs less than a single one of these discs, is reliable, rewritable a million times, lasts decades if properly stored, is already available, is faster, and requires no fancy hardware.
And there's always tape for true archiving.
But you can't go out and buy ST:TNG seasons 1-7 on HDD.
But as soon as a generous person does, no one else needs to;)
The gaming world has to view US/EU as a region separate from Asia. In Asia (but particularly S. Korea) there are a large number of MMORPG's and other online games that the "West" never hears about.
Take a look at the company that did Guild Wars/City of Heroes/City of Villains. They actually predate they have a much larger presence in Asia. A presence most of us here in the West rarely see.
- Do the Verizon customers who access Google's content pay for their network connections?
- Does Google pay their network provider(s) for the access they're using?
- Does Verzion derive an economic benefit by having access to Google's services for it's paying customers?
Therefore:
- Does Verizon believe that they're not charging their customers enough for the services the customer uses?
It has not escaped my attention that I'm reading Slashdot on a free day pass paid sponsored by Verizon...:) ~
No innovation left uncopied.
Surprised they're not already calling it "iGlass" ! may be "iSpectacle"?
Which ironically will give them the exact justification to bring in the contractors -
What does quitting do other than fulfilling what management wanted all along??

I've enjoyed his book on trees and hierarchies in sql as well. Nice discussion of topics not often touched on in a lot of introductory db literature.
.... Sorry book!

It is pretty cool!

This isn't a bad idea....
I do something like this for some of my clients that are concerned with security. ... that is unless I can convert them to Linux on a permanent basis :)

Skynet didn't set out to destroy man. Skynet's love was spurned!@!
I've got a line of outfits that can benefit from this!
There are so many companies I know that have little to know real dependence upon AD other than the fact that it's all they're really known...

how about the less-than-fragrant male tech in need of 32d's (or would it be 46dd?? not really sure of the nomenclature anymore...)
Did anyone else think they meant they were going to dissect a live squid.
I was picturing some of the Old Ones (Lovecraftian) having something to gurgle about that! ;)

Let's hope the public at large figures out what lying SOB's microsoft really are and avoid them as much as possible.
Wouldn't it be better for them to in a sense "escrow" those patents w/ an external body like the open patents.org people?
That would indeed show their good faith in allowing TRUE interoperability. As opposed to this, "really we promise we won't beat you THIS time...."
Just my $0.02.
Actually, it does specify that the HDD is replaceable explicitly. The ram is spec'd as 256 MB upgradeable to 1G. But, then IRTFS.... ;)

You have a girlfriend who doesn't like SCI-FI?
What's wrong with you? Have some standards!!
Haven't been terribly impressed at the technical capabilities of SBC....
