What you're looking for (especially if you're H.323 VOIP friendly) is what's called a MCU. Most commercial providers will have their own implementation.
If you want to "roll your own" in house, the openh323 project has an open source/MPL'd implementation called openmcu. These devices will essentially allow your H.323 based video phone/soft-phone to connect to a common conference.
openh323.org has the info. If you need any pointers, let me know. Did quite a bit of work w/ voip/h323 professionally.
If this individual is so very keen on promoting the French language and culture, why aren't they digitizing and making their own libraries accessible? In stead of bitching about google?
You asked: "... This brings me to my overall question: is the censorship that real, that hard to get around, and how do you do it? What methods and technologies are you aware of or use to circumvent the Great Firewall of China?
So you're asking effectively how we would go about breaking the laws in China?
... Uhmm... Do YOU have any affiliation with the Chinese government? A spy perhaps? A bad one at that;)
To play devil's advocate:
What about the guy who does get advance notice of a defect in his car and decides to sell it. Since it would not be public knowledge, due to limited disclosure and accompanying NDA(!!) he does not reveal the fact of a known problem with the product he was selling.
Under your assumptions, the buyer would only have himself to blame if something were to go wrong with his newly purchased car.
I believe this violates very simple principles of ethics, the UCC, and, in fact, simple common sense.
-- (I'm sure someone will helpfully point out if I'm wrong about the UCC among other things.)
California's had a really serious debt for quite some time now. It's simply that the last administration was NOT DOING HIS/THEIR collective jobs that Arnold appears the "well-intentioned hero".
THAT'S WHY WE FIRED DAVIS.
In a time when there's so much incompetence in doing one's job, someone who DOES do their job looks like hero.
Sorry, didn't mean to "rip" on him. I'd been looking for similar system's myself a few years ago and frankly, was impressed at the progress of software for this sort of thing. Btw, why don't YOU offer something a little more constructive/helpful to this
person since you're so "educated" and obviously a Mac user?:)
I used to have a prof in college with a similiar problem. He was legally blind but still teaching (Comp Sci).
His solution was to use a very large monitor (for the time), something like a 21" with the text magnified to a point that was comfortable for him. Basically the text was about.25 inches high.
I think I would've begun to lose sight in MY eyes trying to work from his screen but it seemed to work for him.
One way to do it would be require that all ap's utilize an external authentication system, usually via radius server, tacacs or other authentication server. When a user is auth'd on one, grab the corresponding mac and permit for whatever session period you choose.
I understand that the nocat system is also great for authenticated access.
he only two real drawbacks of the Motorola is that you can't run all your house phones off it without encountering ring-volume problems, and if the box is offline it only gives you silence (an error tone would have been a nice plus).
The silence is the typical behaviour of a phone that is not connected to the "co" or gatekeeper/sip redirect server. It behavaes as if it's "unplugged" from the wall socket.
.... but if you were a REAL geek god wouldn't you build & deploy your own los/nlos wireless connection? So you wouldn't be constrained by the local telco/cable providers, if one exists and replace them if not?
Had the same thing happen half a dozen times on my old pos Prostar. The case was made of a weak plastic and the hinge was set too tight breaking the case and hinge repeatedly.
Fortunately the company had their corp. headquarters/repair/warehouse located near enough that I could go bug the repair guy and got them to replace the lid and hinge.
I know others who'd had the same problem who went the DIY route (which frankly seemed to work much better) and used epoxy compounds to bond & strengthen the cracked parts.
I'm sure you've seen for yourself but the reason for the dual development track is that not all 1.3x modules have been migrated to the new 2.x platform. There are still a number of very popular modules that still require the use of the 1.3x code. So instead of "orphaning" those poor souls dependent (?) on the 1.3x modules, (as mentioned by another poster) the open source world allows for and supports multiple versions to exist.
If I'm not mistaken, there were fairly recent reports of some bars that swiped their patron's licenses taking the information and selling it to data aggregation companies.
I see that this "network" of bars can aggregate a substantial database of/on their patrons and promptly "lease" this information to whomever cares to utilize such demographic data.

There is

at least the first part...
IIRC
Since Sirius et.al are digital broadcasts, they can encrypt their signals to whatever encoding they'ed care to use. No?
I recommend SQUID. Or rather proxying the outbound connections as the ap will (in a captive portal environment) be set to filter by mac addy.

I believe you're referring to the HDMI. IIRC HDMI is the DRM encumbered version of DVI.

Why would you think there'd be a huge lag working local-local connections?
The problem with most voip is with network induced latencies. So a local-local test is less interesting as say a system - nearby network test.

In addition, it looks like this fellow's got a seriously vested interest in the spread of MS's closed source products.

j2c.
no. no... 8 toggles switches for code/data input and 8 led's for a "data display"
all, 1 byte at a time.

Any paranoid people among us care to comment?
So I guess you also blocked tftp ports when blaster & sobig hit a few weeks ago?
What about those people whose systems require the use of offsite tftp servers? Or any other ports affected by recent virii/worms.
