How can a student respond to such an accusation in order to defend the validity of BitTorrent and continue to benefit from its legitimate uses?"
If you have to ask for ideas and excuses for legitimate uses, you must not have many. Leave it to those who really do have legitimate uses to come up with their reasoning behind continued usage.
It just seems like you're looking for justification as opposed to a valid defense.
Let's face it, everything that was offered on TSS and TechTV can be duplicated by visiting Slashdot and a few other select websites.
To start a network of all techie shows would be a waste of investment capital.
The only value brought by TSS to the tech world was their reviews and tips - again, easilly published (and cheaper) on the web.
You don't need a buyout by G4 to tell you that TechTV had its days numbered over time.
The Cleveland Indians allowed people during "College Night" to play on their newly replaced JumboTron (now the largest screen in North America) at Jacob's Field on their "College Night" on May 6, 2004.
I don't have any photos of the event, except for a local radio station's gallery of pictures.
Actually, Columbia is the name of a university in New York City. (and popular brand of sportswear). The fact that this story describes a band of well dressed, collegate Revolutionary Armed Forces is less annoying than it is scary....
That's because they are not listed in the obituaries...they are buried in a small mass grave just outside of town. The bottom of the tombstone inscription reads: R.I.[A.A.]P.
It's the same story from 7 years ago, in reverse. It comes down to laziness in web application development teams and making users conform to the whims of the developers instead of the developers trying their darndest to be transparent throughout the web application process. To make a specific browser an integral part of an application rather than making it irrelevant will be something web app teams will have to deal with well into the future if they truely want to cater to all PC users in the long-haul. Just like error-trapping is necessary, there should a a browser-trapping standard developed for web apps. Anyone agree?
Spoilage warning: plot discussed, not ending, not that it matters here.

Code your pages so that: if anyone comes from a site other than the main "www.[domain].com" site (or a parent URL), redirect them to your www.[domain].com page. (but lazy programmers will most likely have the nasty-Nanny-cam ads pop up on every page....)
The reason they have so much free time and money to spend on the latest technology in Japan is because the U.S. has been funding and providing the largest part of their national defense since WWII. They no longer have to fund their own defenses.....

ALL THEIR BASES ARE BELONG TO US!
Keep in mind that companies like Symantec would LOVE to exploit this and include the following bullet-point on their next Win32 utility: "STOPS GOPHER PROTOCOL HACKERS!" Their solution: Turn off browsers gopher protocol. .10 solution, $100 SOUNDBYTE!

It's kinda coincidental that they've also made the connection between college and big-screen gaming.

It has also lost some of the originality. What happened to new movies with original screenplays?
Sounds like someone needs to go back and do some paperwork using 2-ply and some sandpaper.....

Well, depending on the bar, I'm sure it's quite easy, too.
I've quite a few people in bars talking about getting nailed....
How's this for irony:
California HAS BEEN HERE BEFORE.
Believe it or not, last year the energy budget crunch in California was blamed for delays in California's proposed bullet train system (LA-SF)
So this time the politicians want trains to solve the energy deficit?!?
