    No I would consider neither of those things to be just. If such punishments ever became the norm for such things as tScoGroup has done then we have more to worry about than Company's lying in order to scam money out of people...

    As stated, I want Darl (& the Sco Group) punished to the maximum extent possible under the law. Darl & Co need to be seen to be punished in such a way that it that acts a deterrent to prevent others from pursuing similar frivolous claims in the future.

    I want Darl & Co. punished for all their lies, I want the Sco Group punished for trying to game the legal system, I want the Sco Group punished for every time they ignored Court Orders, I want their assets seized to pay off creditors, I want the law firms to have to disgorge all funds received from tScoGroup after they entered chapter 11 to help pay off creditors, I want the SEC to investigate tScoGroup and the statements that were made to the court that appear to be different / contradict statements that were made to the SEC...

    Executive summary, I want justice to be done and to be seen to done. Dying a horrendous death is not justice (not even poetic justice), and it is certainly not deserved for what tScoGroup actually did...

    Darl does not deserve drugs. How about him dieing a homeless, disease ridden prostitute?
    Then the only change necessary is creditors seizing his home.

    I hate what tSCOGroup tried to do, I hate the fud that was generated, I hate the lies that were told, however none of things lead me to want those involved to die horrific deaths, instead I want all those involved to suffer to the maximum extent possible under the law...

    I believe that you and the AC you replied to, need to get a sense of perspective, nothing Darl, or anyone else at tSCOGroup has done warrants such deaths. I honestly believe that attitudes such as yours, do as much harm to the Open Source movement as those expressed by Darl and co.

    Here in good, ol' Europe no cop will ever ask you to stop shooting photos - if he/she's on duty of course. Best they can do is to turn around. You have the right to video them, photo them when they're doing the job you are paying for.

    I would say that depends on where you are in the EU and the attitude of the local cops. There most certainly have been times when Police in the UK have forced people to stop taking photo's / videos in public...

    There are approx 11 million WoW subscribers (all active according to Blizzard), the $15 is only the average amount paid per month by Western gamers. The majority of those 11 million subscribers are in China / SE Asia, and they do not pay flat monthly fee, instead they are charged on a per hour basis.

    It is more accurate to state that the majority of Police officers in the UK do not carry guns. There are, of course, specially trained officers that do carry guns are part of the course of their normal duties.

    On my bookshelf I have the following Dune Books :
    1. Dune
    2. Dune Messiah
    3. Children of Dune.
    4. God Emperor of Dune
    5. Heretics of Dune
    6. Chapter House Dune

    All 6 were by Frank Herbert, my favourites being Books 1,3 and 5 respectively.

    Dune is more like Science Fantasy than Science fiction, but it is still a damn fine book. As for your comment about weapons that magnify a shout, surely that is only from the first Dune film...

    The original film was visually stunning, but it did not really appeal to me because of all the changes that had been made, the mini-series on the other hand really did appeal, shame some of the acting was so poor.

    There is statutory protection as laid down under the Sales of Goods Act 1979. There can be something of a grey area as to whether a problem is covered under the sale of goods act, or is covered under the warranty.

    As you are in the UK, your first port of call should be to your local trading standards office. Inform them of the problem and they will be able to advise you on whether your statutory rights have been breached and should be able to give you advice on how to proceed from there.

    I hope you are being facetious, however a lot of red top tabloid readers seem to share your views...

    As for suing the police if they have shot someone, given the track record of UK Police Officers being referred to the CPS for charges or actually arriving in court on gun related charges then suing them may be the only chance to get any form of justice...

    So mugging NEVER happens in those states that allow concealed carrying? The reporter from CNET supposedly had a gun placed to the back of his head, how would having a concealed gun help in that situation? Would the reported have tried to go for his gun during or after the mugging? If so then there is the chance that the crime escalates to murder...

    The story is on /. because some idiot stated that the rise in reported street crime was due to more people carrying mobile phones and ipods...personally I put the blame on the UK's politicians, they have :
    1. Not sufficiently increased the capacity of prisons / remand centres (possibly due to political embarrassment)
    2. Changed sentencing guidelines so that criminals are released earlier from the overcrowded prisions / youth remand centres.
    3. Increased the amount of paperwork done by police officers so that they spend more time doing the associated admin work than they do trying to prevent crime.

    It is not about giving over the details of the design, it is about publishing sufficient details so that competitors can interoperate with your products. It is not as if Microsoft is the only company that has ever had to publish API's for Inteoperability...

    During the early 90's Novell was the dominant force in the LAN Server Market. Microsoft took advantage of the API's that were published / provided by Novell (for the purpose of interoperability) to write their Gateway Services for Netware, this service allowed the NT server (NT 3.51 and 4) to effectively emulate a Novell Server and was designed to ease the migration of users from Novell Netware to Windows NT.
