Admittedly I didnt read the article, but I wouldnt be suprised if the this "Earth sized" telescope is used for that purpose.
And interferrometer takes two images at a wide distace apart and then one image is used to cancel the other. The remaining image is a result of the slight angle difference, allowing you to see very dim objects next to bright ones. The same could be used for radio waves.
In any case this would be tough, but not impossible job, for actually seeing a planet. I remember one scientist literally describing it as trying to see a firefly with a nuclear explosion as a backdrop.
At the university I used to attend (Dakota State University), they wouldnt allow NT/2000 or Linux because they can be used as servers. Now of course they didnt seem to know that they could be used for non-serving purposes nor did they seem to know that 95/98/ME could be used as a server. This isnt to say they could tell what anyone was using but it does demonstrate how naive their computing services staff was (the students employed there generally knew better), and I doubt that they are somehow unique.
The real leap of faith has to be on that one fateful day when someone was getting searched at a border crossing and one of the guards thought to themself "I wonder if hes carrying anything in his butt".
According to GeoHive, the population of Europe in 2000 was approximately 729 million while US/Canada's was only 307 million. Do a little simple math and you find that US/Canada have 59% connected while Europe has only 25% connected. Any high school math teacher will tell you to watch out for skewed results.
Its already obviously not DVD quality. And they are not thinking of the people who want to rent it on DVD. They are thinking of the people wholl buy this on one of those all day ticket pay per view channels. And besides that, this sort of thing will likely be out before it hits the rental stores in the future anyway. I used to download movies a lot, and lets just say that there were times Id rather just pay a couple of bucks and quit with all the waiting.
Cats have far more issues with authority than dogs. If memory serves, cats will fight and kill for alpha status but dogs get born into it and fight for the lower ranks in the pack (this isnt always true but typical). That said this 170lb gray wolf would probably only eat you if was not tame, whereas large tame cats can be very.....touchy. Watch any behind-the-scenes show where they use large cats. You have to be way more wary than with dogs.
The way the want to use it is in the context of education. Copying for those purposes is legal. Say for example, I bring in a burned CD of music from a lot of different artists to show different musical styles. When I play that for the class I am not violating copyrights because of the context that I use it. Remember when the Internet was younger and warez was a lot more prevalent? They always used the "educational purposes" loophole. That loophole is no longer there but the original intent of that law is. And before anyone starts spouting examples, I know there is limitations to this.
Ive already that you ruled out car capacitors, and for good reason. I was wondering if the large capacitors inside microwaves or TV would work for you purpose?
...but for other reasons. Im not color blind, but I used to play Nintendo back in the day on an old cheap B&W TV. I can really remember one game that said "go through the blue door". Turns out that the door I kept going through was red when I played it on a color screen. Probably would explain why the game was so tough after that door.
First Ill say that I am a Pearl Jam, and that I enjoy all of their albums for their own reasons. Saying that they are all the same shows a definite lack of knowledge of those songs. I consider Ten to be very good, but probably their worst album.
Now Moby seems to think that he has a similar popularity, despite being in the market for much less time. He should know, being in the music industry, that sellouts are not very popular, nor is techno or crappy music. This is a poor excuse to explain bad album sales.
And Moby seems to also think that he must have a much smarter audience. I absolutely resent this considering I would abolutely consider myself a "computer geek".
Not to bash you in any way, but you make a number of completely self contradictory statements.
First off, youre saying that they are not catering to those who "don't play video games". Later on you say that that the system requirements for this video game are "out of reach" for those very same people who dont play anyway!
I have a pretty good system (dual 1.2 Athlon, GeForce 3, 512 MB DDR, 60GB X 4 HD, WinXP/Linux), and I dont own a single console. Why? Cause they all die way too quickly. And to make matters worse you would need a veritable mountain of console to keep playing all of your old favorites, but not with a PC, granted you might need a dual boot for old DOS games. Master of Orion 2 is still one of my favorites but I dont need to own a crap computer to play it.
Another reason is that for some reason console developers seem to think that since they suddenly have all that new power to play with they have to use it all to make flashy action games. I gave consoles partly due to the fact that they lack good strategy games.
And now youre saying at the end that people will finally be able to unlocked from their Wintel so they can be locked into Linux on a PS2? Gimme a break!
And on a final note, you can play ANY first person shooter better with a mouse, no exceptions.
Take this from a larger perspective. You claim that you pay far more into the system than you can hope to reap. So you may never get back that money back directly, but that doesnt mean you are getting no benefits. Im not talking about the stuff taxes pay for either.
Im talking about all those people who work for pidly wages so you can have a larger wage. You are making money off of those people, and Im not blaming you for sapping their wages or anthing like that either. But at the same time you were and still are supporting those higher up on the chain. And even more important those people recieving that EIC are supporting you. This whole system is hooked together.
Just remember that everyone feeds of off everyone else. And before anyone starts bad mouthing people having to recieve money from the government, remember that they, not your boss, are who are making your wages possible. And I will guarantee that they will generate far more income in their life than what the government (or you) gives them.
Ill also re-emphasize my original statement (posted before I registered) that there isnt enough money to make everyone rich. Someone will also work damn hard and get paid next to nothing, but someone has to do it. Even if everyone on the whole planet knew how to program a computer, build a space shuttle, and perform brain surgery, some people will still have to get paid nothing for farming or making shoes or working in a sweat shop.
This is a really simple question that can be answered easily by anyone who has taken a macroeconomics course. You are making your money from other peoples hard work, so this is society's way (remember the government is not some nasty organization out to steal money it is "We The People") of saying "hey, you wanna milk us and reap the benefits of a Capitalistic Republic, fine pay your dues back to society".
Lets have a little quiz:
1. There is a flat tax rate of %20. Person A made $500,000 and paid $100,000 in taxes. Person B made $20,000 and paid $4,000. Who paid more?
A: Wrong!!! Person B. Why, cause everyone spends a certain amount money every year on food and insurance and utilities and many other bills that everyone shares. So now Person B may only have $4,000 to spend on things they want while A still has $388,000.
And dont try to say "well I spend all that money and pay even more sales tax!" because all that is optional spending and we all get that nice fixed sales tax rate.
Quoting Red Hot Chili Peppers?

A previous Slashdot Poll comes amazingly close to the same statistics.

SunLab's website demontrates one effective way being applied in a few different ways.

Gotta admit, first thing I thought was: "Johny 5 is alive!"
