Another chemical engine. Been there, done that. Where are all those cool nuclear and ion engines I've been reading/hearing about for the last 30 years? You know the ones that promised us that mars was a couple weeks away and Jupiter was just a couple of months?

We tried out that ion engine a few years ago. If I remember it worked perfectly. Why haven't we put that in to service. The last probe we launch, pluto express, still used the tried and true brute force approach. It will take it about 20 years to get there. Where if we had strapped a nuclear powered plasma rocked they have been testing for the last 20 years I could already be bitch'n about how dull pluto is.

Come on guy's you've had the plasma rocket in a bottle for 10 years. Lets take it up, strap it to something, and see what the bitch can do.

Yes, I know nuclear plasma and ion can't get us off the ground so we'll still need chemical for that, for now. And I know you have to crawl before you can walk, but we've been crawling for 60 years now. Hell, we are still using the same basic technology that the nazi's where lobbing into London.

Let's get off the can and do something new for once.

Unfortunately there would be something so extremely stupid that it would make the movie totally unbelievable. Such as encoding video or shirking dvds.

I just copy the work over to the htpc then remote desktop in. Set up what I want it to do an walk away from it. I come back in a few hours and see if its done. The main concern is to have a htpc that is powerfull enough to do bitch work with and still be able to watch video on.

The reason that we use intel now most general purpose computing is simply is cost effective. Intel based arch. may not be the best in the world but its good enough. There are 20 years of development behind the processor so its well known for what it can do.

There is no reason to go out an develop a proprietary processor when a intel based chip will do off the shelf. The processor wars are over and sadly or not intel won. The have a cheap processor that works for 99.9% of all computing applications.

This doesn't mean that the proprietary are completely dead. There are some areas where a general purpose x86 isn't a good fit. The processor in a pda or a cell phone would be a good example. But for general purpose computing the x86 design is good enough.

That to, but children where much safer in the '50-'70 than in the '80 and '90's. Back then people in communities watched out for each others children. There was a civil responsibility back then that you don't find today. It used to be when someone tried to snatch a child or did; the whole community would be up and arms.

Now no one really gives a shit. Like the case of a child that was snatched a few years ago around here. It took the cops a week to find someone who had seen the whole thing. She just didn't want to get involved. If she would have come forward and said something the police might have found the child sooner. If she would have suck her head out the window yelled something the child might still be alive.

So people that think they know what the hell they are talking about when they don't' have children need to shut the fuck up. When you have your own kids then you can talk. No one is forcing this device down your through. If you don't want to use it, don't buy it. But if it's one more tool to keep children safe then it might just be worth it.

  22. Re:What scares me more than anything... on Using Cellphones to Track Your Kids · · Score: 1

I think I need to remind you of something. The idea that your children have a right to privacy is a myth. While your children are under the age of 18 and living under your roof they have no right to privacy. You as a parent have the right to say where your child goes, who your child is with, and what your child does at all times. As a parent I have the right to search my child room, possessions, and person any time I feel is necessary.

And contrary to popular myth no court has ever taken this right away from parents unless they felt the child was being abused.

  23. Re:this is terrible on Using Cellphones to Track Your Kids · · Score: 1

How about just pretending your parents actually care about you and want to keep you safe? Sure these devices can be used to follow your children around and keep track of their every move. But you know, if you have open relationship with your kids you won't have to spy on them. I had just such a relationship with mine. I didn't have a curfew or a out of bounds limit ether. All I had to do was give them a reasonble idea of where I was and who I was with. They trusted me to do the right thing.

Weather you like it or not we don't live in the 1950's anymore. Back then you could turn your children lose and expect them to be safe. Now days you have peopel out there that will rape and murder children with out even a second thought.

We really do live in sad fucking times.
