I can beat that. A few years ago this bitch at work clogged up the mail system with a 50 mb zip file containing pictures from the corp. picnic. She sent it to every employee in the company.
Well you're covered there too. The Sony model will write to a single layered + or - dvdr at 8x speed. Which is kind of nice because you have a slow dual layer dvd write if you need to "back up" a movie dvd. Trust me, if you have kids you do. Plus you have a nice fast 8x writer for doing large data back ups to a single layer dvd. The sony puppy also is a 4x RW write also. Very nice in my option.
From what I've read its not quite that bad. The first layer is burned at 8x. It's the second layer that is burned at 2.4x. That I can live with. Most of us are going to use this to back up movies that we have bought that are dual layered. Most dual layered dvds are between 5 and 7 GB long. So basiclly you will be writing between 1 and 3 GB to the second layer at 2.4x. Not bad, not good, but not bad.
12x speed is very nice but this is still a single layer dvd writer. The first of the dual layers will be out in a few weeks. Sony is sceduled to be out the 16th. You can already preorder it. The specs this beast are nice but its dead on the floor. Wait till the dual layer is here then they will be giving them away.
They can have my dollar. As much as I like to see shit getting blown up, I would rather see a dollar going into some hair brained Nasa scheme than some black hole millitary project. Who's sole purpose is to kill people.
I like trilian so much I actually bought the pro version. If you don't like the feel of trillian you can select from a buttload of skins to download. I didn't like the default skin but found one that looks great.
Two things that I like about trilian pro over the other clients. One it can float a contact like the current versions of icq can and it has metacontacts. Some of my contacts use different clients across several IM services. With metacontacts I just group them all into one contact and stop giving a shit what service they are on. If they are on icq it will send messages to icq. If the are on MS client, it will send the message to thier MS client. I wish it would automaticlly float a contact when they come on line like icq can.
I don't like about its they charge you $25 a year for support and the fucker phones home everytime you use it. That phoning home shit might just get it kicked off my system at the end of the year.
Good god people, this isn't censorship. No one is pointing a gun to your head telling you to buy the thing. This is a simple techonological solution to something some people think is a problem. Censorship is when the government tells you, you can't print or say something. If you don't like the product don't buy it.
For the record, I don't intend to buy it because movies that it would be used on I don't let my kids watch. I really don't see a need for it but some people do. If RCA can makes some money off these people the more power to them. RCA gets cash for a product people want, and these people get a product they want.
I've had these thoughts too. Mining water from the limited sources on the moons just struck me as short sighted. That water would be better put to use serving a lunar colony.
I also agree we should go back to the moon before we set our sites on Mars. Relatively speaking it is just next door and we have been there before. We should have some ideal what we expect to find there. Unlike mars, which is almost a complete unknown except for probe data.
I do feel we should press on to mars eventually but not at the expense of a lunar base. Some people question why we should go there. As with many exploritary missions, "we won't know till we get there."
I never ceases to amaze me how modern people assume "primitive" means stupid. And that would just be primitive by our standards of technology. Doesn't say anything about thier level of mathmatics or astronomy. There are plenty of amazing things done in history without the use of electricity or modern metals.
For instance the Romans would move water hundreds of miles without the use of any pumps. Only gravity would be used. There is once site in Spain where the Romans used water to tear down a mountain to mine it. Something we would use explosives and heavy machines to do.
I esp. love the nut jobs who assume that because the people of Egypt didn't have bulldozers and crains they couldn't have built the pyramids. Instead it was built by aliens or people from Atlantis. Which is all poppycock, the Egyptians had a prefectly "primitive" way of doing it, we just forgot what it was.
Primitive is relative, but it doesn't mean stupid.
This is a perplexing dilemna because killing off the space shuttle and ISS is exactly what the civilian space program needs to be come viable again.
I sort of agree with you there. I think we should deepsix the space shuttle as soon as we can. I'm not sure about the space station yet. I agree right now its fucking useless as it stands but can we do anything to it to make it useful?
If not, I'll meet you out in the outback with a bucket of paint and we'll paint a big old target where to crash the fucker.
Nice way to start an intelligent conversation there, buckweetie but I'll bite. Your a fool if you think robots are adaquate for anything other than scoping out the place. For instance the current 2 robots are telling us that water flowed on Mars. How reliable is that? Not very, untill a geologists gets to mars and looks at the rocks first hand we'll never know for sure.
Robots don't have intutition ether. Some of the greatest discoveries in sience have been done because a scientist right at the moment decited to do something else. Your robot might be looking at the rock in front of him and miss the fossel beside it.
I really doesn't surprise me coming from such a shitty company as CA. I mean anyone who would peddle the crap they do would climb in bed with anyone.
I've never seen one instance where any of thier software didn't cause more problems than it solved. For instance I worked a few years ago at CSC and we installed TNG shit across 665 solaris platforms only to have nothing but troubles. We ended up backing off TNG shit and disabling it but we where still locked in to a contract.
The present company I work for just installed TNG across all of the platform against my advice. I laugh now everytime there is a problem, which is almost daily. Thier software is crap, they are crap, it doesn't suprise me.
I've got a simular story. I working in senstive data back in '87/'89. I didn't handle any senstive data just the blokes over in the other cube. I was a low tech. board jocky at the time who's sole purpose in life was to test graphics boards. Meaning I would pull them out of a tub, put them in the workstation, and see if the pretty pictures would come up.
Working night shifts all of us testers would get tired of the pictures of landscapes, weird ass looking people, and clouds. We would start loading our own pictures into the mix. Some would do cars others planes, but the most popular was, you guess it, porn. I had 500 mb of some of the finest qualty gifs that I could scavange off of usenet.
Well one day I got told to report to work early. Some men in suits where outside the bosses office, I got called in and ask about my harddrive. I thought they had found my secret porn collection but it turned out the blokes up the hill had been "compromised." They where destroying all harddrives and data in the building. Don't ask me why, I did't ask. I just went and fetched my harddrive.
Okay, I figured they where going deguass it, format it, or just beat it with a hammer. Well they took us all out back, there was about ten of us. They took the harddrives from us and set them out in the field. Then some dude in army fatigues pulled an M-16 out of the car, walked out there, and shot each drive 3 times.
Yeah, them where the good ol' days. I was on a first name bases with some of the "greats" of usenet back then. You usually knew everyone of at least new of them. It didn't take long to figure out who the crackpots were. Hell, even the crackpots had a sense of decency about them.
I remember unpacking Duucp for the first time, "damn what a mess" I thought. Well appearently I did something right because it came up and ran. Could have knocked me over with a 2x4. I set aside 10 mb on a 40 mb harddrive for my usenet feed, which I begged from a local dude at another company.
That is refered to as "the september that never ended." In the old days septemeber was the worst time of the year. Newbies would be just be starting school and discover usenet for the first time. During that month the newsgroups would be posted full of shit until they learned the system. Back the the worst thing that could happen to you is you could lose your account. Losing your account was the stuff of nightmares.
Well the dumbasses that didn't learn would usually have thier accounts yanked by the end of September. The ones that learned would go on to become members in good standing our little secret society. Ether way things would return to normal at the end of September.
When AOL connected it was the end of that. People no longer lived in fear of losing thier account so the shit just kept flowing at the end of September. Its still flowing to this day...
Thank you good sir, that is a excellent ideal. I'll work it in to my procmail filter PDQ. One old trick that I discovered a few years ago is to key on the {To|CC|BCC}: headers in spam. If my address didn't appear in on of those 3 fields then it was send from a list, and into the bit bucket.
If my name was in one of those fields then is was more likely to be sent from someone who knew me. It works rather well. I have a white list at the top of address that get dumped right into my mailbox. I also have some rules in there that filter out shit that uses the correct address.
This "unsubscribe" ideal should fit right in there.
I can beat that. A few years ago this bitch at work clogged up the mail system with a 50 mb zip file containing pictures from the corp. picnic. She sent it to every employee in the company.
Stupid bitch
I'm already putting together the procmail recipie to do just this.

Saying goes, "If the shoe fits"

It just means I'm going TV that week and watch twice as much TV the next week.
I'm sure that a daily massage by beautiful exotic woman would also help me feel better about it.
Would work for me!
Damn Straight! I would want a bigger TV out of it too.
What is to stop me from signing up for this, taking thier cash, and routing thier crap right to /dev/null?
That exactly what I thought. Now maybe they will shut the fuck up and let me have my sex and violance in peace.

Simple. Ignore it.
