i'd want the full experiance, otherwise there's no point in checking out the distro. I'm not gonna switch; i'm prefectly happy with gentoo, i just waht to know if it's woth suggesting to new users.
The dependancy issue can be solved with tools such as apt (doesn't rh do that now?) or portage. The minstream distros need to embrace on of those systems, though. (Portage can do binaries, too)
They use the past tense "had" so i think you're ok. It's mainly to discourage pre-release stuff which will cost them money if people can tell that it sucks beforehand. They won't lose any money form movies that aren't available anymore.
Probably never, since water cooling doesn't make the heatsink(s) and fans smaller or cheaper.
Are you implying that Apple tries to cut corners wherever they can, becasue if so you're sorely mistake. They won't use water cooling becasue it's more maintanence. You gotta fill it up which most mac users don't want to do. Also leaks will happen adn they are very bad.
It's a forum, you idiot, not the official page. If you didn't notice, the rebuttals were on the same page. And the guy that posted it is not at all affiliated with gentoo, and is no longer a welcome memeber of the community.
Tell them that you will switch to linux if they don't provide you with a backup methoid that works. Then you should get some special CDs that will let you image drives. Just don't violate any liscenses becasue you will be on their radar now.
As much as I hate a lot of what goes on in the US these days, I'm glad for these sort of events to remind me that it could be much worse. Jail for copyright infringement. Damn, can you get booked for a deat taillight also? Is selling pot a capital offence? That's insane.
"IBM was leading the words of Red Hat's CEO in comments to the UK government last year saying that '...open source was not ready for the desktop'.
Last year, he might have been right. Openoffice was not newarly as good as word (had it even reached 1.0 yet), but it is now. Mozilla has matured a lot as well, and Firebird exists. We cna now connect to exchange, I'd say that they were right then and are also right now.
Remember, IBM has a huge patent portfolio and probobly owns patents to toms of stuff that is in widespread use, but doesn't bring out the guns except against companies like SCO. Hopefully this will be another of those.
Apple initially hesitates to update 10.2 for various security problems
Apple doesn't fix problems that arent in 10.2 when it fixes them in 10.3 ooh nooos.
I want a G5 powerbook. Can you buy an AlBook now, becasue the next revision will probobly have a G5
i don't have a pulse you insensitive clod!
And if our government's sole function was to ensure the highest possible profits for Best Buy, you'd have a point.
Ecactly. Since it's sole function is to ensure the highest profits for the Record Labels, the law doesn't apply here.
Linux hurts a lot of businesses.

Sick of gentoo zealots throwing plugs in completely unrelated topics? Me too!
Gentoo is good for buisness.
Since the super computer obviously isn't a food
What do you mean it's a big mac and it even comes with G5 chips. Can i get those G5 in Salt and Vinegar?

You bought the Star Terk Borg Megacube, didn't you?
In this case it's the people that are asking for money. You can't hide that paper trail nearly as well.

choice when i get my powerbook, i'm gonna try gentoo (+MoL) and osx and see which i like better.

And i'm sending a white van full of fertilizer after you. They'll learn quick not to fuck with me.
For the record, some guys on the gentoo forums have been using fedore and they love it. I wish it had a livecd so i could play with it.
If you don't mind having to really learn linux, try gentoo. The do it yourself natrue of gentoo keeps you free from most of these sort of problems.
Am I forgetting anything?
Yea, the kitchen sink.

Of course if they enforce it i'll be pissed
It would make parking a lot easier if I could just drive my car into a dumpster
You can already do that. Especially if you're drunk.
