    vs.net includes everything one componant (like VC) is not nearly that expensive. Anyway, i wish turboC existed for linux. I love that IDE.

    didn't IBM announce something about cooler 970s here recently? The fact that Apple is saying the G5 powerbook is a long way off actually makes me think they should be out kinda soon. They rarely say anything about anything before it's released.

    a lot of it's subconscious, kinda like other ads. Have you ever seen ANY ad and then said "I'm gonna buy that," but if you see banners over and over and then need what they're selling, then you might come up with that company's name first.

    fraud, imo. Are they counted by hand, becasue if so then the counters ge tto pick the winner. Like in the Florida recounts that kept getting different results.

    Banners make the web work. they're unintrusive, small, and sometimes actually useful(especially if targeted). Banner support supports many web sites. Popups and such are a nusiscance and are bad, but i have no problem with banners on the sites i visit. In fact, i'm kinda glat to see them as i know the site has some funding. All in all, i think Norton is being irresponsible to block banners and all they will end up doing is making advertisers rely more on nuiscance ads, like popunder and flash ads(shudder).

    Novell probobly has learned. Companies tend to be smart when they're at the bottom trying to move up. They only get stupid when they're successful. (yes, i'm generalizing)

    drake is fine. They'd be in the black if it wasn't from some stupid deals the made in the ninties by the old CEO. Once they're free of that bull they'll be making money.

    And not only should they keep the desktop distro free, they should create a Live Distro on CD and print up a few hundred million of them and make sure that everybody and their cat has a copy, a la AOL.

    No that'll piss people off. Have a place to order them free on the bnet and stock retailers such as compusa with them.

    Nope. IBM isn't in the hardware buisness anymore. They're in support and windows is much harder to support than linux or aix.

    I agree with his points about abesity and traffic, though the traffic issues stem more from poor planing. His referenct to digital music is valid, but more economics than abundance. His analsis of SPAM seems to be a bit of a streach as well, as it is also just economics. When i think of abundance in a world designed around scarcity, i don't really think of economics. Interesting read, though.

    You could do away with the tape adapter by going with one of those short-range radio transmitters and hooking that into the audio-out of the laptop. This would clean up the cassette wire that pops out and then runs back inside the stereo housing.

    Those don't work very well. I'd personally get a new Head unit with audio in instead. Though the tape adapter is probobly fine.

    I'd wait for G5s to show up used on ebay. It should be soon, and remember you will likely keep a mac longer so it's worth a little extra up front.
