Think of the chances you'll have to sit in that car with a leggy 20-something bimbette who doesn't care if if you even have the keys! What happens after that depends on how well you smile.
It has been a while now since video cards became the driving element in box specs. HD's don't push....MB's don't push, and heaven knows USB2 isn't doing anything worth mentioning. High performance video cards push development of many other components. Much like a bigger engine in a car needs better handling and more fuel, etc.
The video card has been the alpha male in the component arena for some time, and I'm surprised to hear people proclaiming shock over a $500.00 price tag.
As usual some people would complain if their computer was free.
If you don't like it, don't buy it....if you can't afford it, don't whine...if something works better for you, smile and be happy.

We used to have a borrowed sine wave generator to play with when we were kids. It initially seemed to be doing something, but as we couldn't hear anything, we decided to find out if it was actually working. We brought in the normally lazy cat, and cranked up the generator...the cat exited at high speed. I'm sure there were emotions related to that experiment, but beyond our reaction of laughter, the cat was not in any mood to provide details.

"Out of the cave, right now, you filthy mouth breathing neolithic bastard!"
I faced the same dilemma when using my component 480i inputs. One bank of 480i inputs on the TV, but three sources that need to be connected at the same time. Funny how those component switches cost near $300.00 for some models.
I bought a Radio Shack, RCA connector style, 3 source manual switch, and then invested in cables w/the gold connectors to hook it all up. No issue, and I get that ever valuable exercise when I have to walk over and punch the selector:)
"...none of them seem to have been used fraudulently."
What, we should expect a stolen c'card ## to be used legally?...sheeseh.
The way things are going, I'd say my c'card info is safer in the hands of the [insert your favorite eastern block country name here] mafia, then with so called legitimate companies.
I just learned that some outfit was making unauthorized charges, based on the sole fact that someone answered the phone when they supposedly called! They seem to think this amounts to a second contact, the first being some junk mail the postperson brought, and this second contact equals opt-in??!!
I'll say it again...I beginning to trust crooks more than business...and don't make me agree that they're one and the same:) Let's place bets on how much longer c'cards survive, until another scheme comes along to shift the balance of buying power once again. I'm fed up with all the time I have to put in when it comes to monitoring for fraud like this.
My brother used to put the system file out on the desktop....and I never asked why. He also insisted on formatting otherwise left over HD space...and every time his house of cards fell, I'd have to grinnbearit.
silly messes...that's funny...like a stain on the carpet, only it doesn't smell.
I updated two computers.... G4 and an iBook. The only issue I had was needing to modify my httpd conf for on the G4 for PHP. No date issues....no moved icons..no lost internet...no droppy socks and the cat still has two different colored eyes.
I submit that as usual, the majority of issues are not directly related to 10.2.4. If you move apps where Apple's installer doesn't expect them to be (and don't whine how it is your computer and not Apple's), you'll have boinked links, and dock icon issues. If you've done a poor original install, you'll have issues with system updates, whether the bad install was your gift to the afternoon or not. Get over it...the sky hasn't fallen...this is not OS 9, and the sooner we all get used to a modern OS the happier we will be.
So, if I connect using my Airport equipped iBook, and share that connection with my friend back in coach who has a similar setup, we can split the cost, etc.
All it takes is one wisegeek per flight, and they'll find less paying customers than they expected. Oh well, nice while it lasted. My big worry is finding a way to keep running for those 12 hr. flights back to Asia.

It would be interesting, except for the fact that the two companies, as has been stated, have little in common. Sony is consumer and Sun is all business. I've been in meetings with Sun staff, just the last week (in Asia...not in Japan), and no one is looking that direction. Any talk like that is just conjecture.
Sun may be nervous, but they aren't running scared just yet. They are already more active now than they were this time last year, and they know what they are facing in the market.
If the marketing wonks can lay off, Sun will be around for a while, and that doesn't mean as part of another company.
There is a primetime war right around the corner and you can't think of anything to tune in to? I'm taking your advice, and ignoring (almost) everything you just said. You succeeded in blowing enough hot air to float a hippo, which I'm sure was your intent...we get the joke.
As for your leadership mantra, a directed and focused staff is only as good as the lens from which it shines. I believe it is better to stay out of the way, let them learn and do for themselves, and only surface when it is time to tell others to leave them alone. This means if you give them the proper tools and skills, they will work the rest out on their own and be all the better for it. They won't need/expect a nod from you each time they lick a stamp.
