  9. Re:Short Answer is: No on Cartoon Network Serves Up More Anime · · Score: 1

actually...most american movies in theaters in japan are subtitled (it's faster to do so). But if there is a dubbed one, they would show both the subbed and the dubbed ones (separate rooms of course...or it would be chaos).

And for TV (the only thing they censor is below-the-belt nudity and some extreme gore), they show all and in most cases, the original english track is on the second audio channel. Hell, it wasn't until I saw Total Recall on Japanese TV that I found out about the "triplets" scene.

You might be right about getting non-fans to watch it.....it is on late....so maybe that's their goal....'cuz it's the fans who buy the most stuff.

  10. Re:I just want to know... on Cartoon Network Serves Up More Anime · · Score: 1

interpreted?! more like butchered like hell....I'd rather get info from the Iraqi Information Minister (whatever happened to that bastard anyways?) than get anime from CN. Hell...you can't even call it anime, 'cuz CN does the chopping and the re-wording, thus changing the entire story. One guy said it best on some late nite show (I think it was on Jay Leno), the made for TV version of ScarFace just isn't right (paraphrased).

Anyways...if u'r a purist...get the original Japanese DVDs, especially since when they release US DVDs of anime, they for some unknown reason (just like how the Iraqi info Minister would give weird info) process the video feed for the worse. In most cases, they screw up the color and the contrast. Hence I go for the non-US DVDs. If u need help understanding, ask me politely and I might translate it for you.

Besides....CN can actually air most of it (the subbed version) without too much editing, especially since it's not aired during the day. If PBS can do it, so can they. (The local PBS [KTEH] shows anime subbed for the most part...and they don't go choptastic with it....in fact, I don't think they even touched it nudity and all....gotta love PBS...if I wasn't a broke college student, I would donate something).
And I've been suggesting that they make it so they air both the original language and the dub and the subs using the SAP (second audio program) and closed-captioning. Then it becomes more educational. O well....like I always say bureaucracy; if it makes sense, it ain't gonna happen.
