Bloodthirsty License Agreement
---
This is where the bloodthirsty license agreement is supposed to go,
explaining that Interactive Easyflow is a copyrighted package licensed
for use by a single person, and sternly warning you not to pirate
copies of it and explaining, in detail, the gory consequences if you
do.
We know that you are an honest person, and are not going to go around
pirating copies of Interactive Easyflow; this is just as well with us
since we worked hard to perfect it and selling copies of it is our only
method of making anything out of all the hard work.
If, on the other hand, you are one of those few people who do go around
pirating copies of software you probably aren't going to pay much
attention to a license agreement, bloodthirsty or not. Just keep your
doors locked and look out for the HavenTree attack shark.
I've confirmed the network speed degradation while playing audio. Using Winamp and moving one large file, the time to transfer to a local network share was 42 seconds with no audio playing and 160 seconds with audio playing. Using Winamp with 2000 small files time to transfer without audio was 44 seconds and time with audio was 74 seconds.
Lenovo T60, Vista, 1.5 GB RAM, etc, etc.
Don't forget to consider the need to maintain continuity of expertise for your solution. If you expect the same people to be around for years then a home-brew is more tenable. If you will have a lot of turnover of your admin/technical staff then factor in the bother of either continually retraining people or (more likely) them having to puzzle out the "old" system when they inherit it.
Not unreasonable to buy a new computer if the old one is on it's way out. My current box is 4-5 years old and I've already decided to buy next time I would end up rebuilding the OS for whatever reason. Really bad infection would cause that if I couldn't trust that I was able to clean it up completely.
I've taken to taking a portable drive and sync software to replicate from my main drives to a portable that lives most of the time at work. Need to do something though about my data getting corrupted and replicated in corrupt form. 95% plus is static, so I can probably lock those files down and only replicate active stuff.
Nah. This is a book on *why* to buy a Mac.

What about stuff in underground tunnels and lairs? Why are you trying to divert us from those?
Yeah, what if they get promoted to high position (Peter Principle) and drag your whole industry down with them? Huh?
What about the sequence(s) that code for a brain big enough to create weapons that wipe out the race (or planet)? Already have that....
All we had to do was to not reduce sulfur in jet fuel. Woulda let jets crud up the stratosphere and bounce some of the sunlight (and heat) away.
