Why not pick one or two and really run them through the wringer? Most of the heavily used projects like Tomcat have already been viewed by thousands of eyes so a cursory overview probably won't be worth the time
You are not going to believe this, but if online music pricing dropped to $0.80, $0.70, or even $0.50, I would not buy more. I buy all the music I want online, and $0.99 is not a burden to me. It's conceivable that I'm the only consumer on the planet for whom there's no elasticity between $0.99 and $0.50, but that's highly unlikely. Pricing theory is all about finding that point on the curve that makes the most profit, even if it means that you're limiting your potential customer base.
The problem is that 0.99 is not a fair price. Its easier for them to distribute yet the price per song is still higher than just buying the album. If an album has more than 15 songs on it, you're losing money. Forget about "boxed" sets that have ~100 songs on them but retail for ~$40.
Does anyone know if Christian music lovers are in the demographic of illegal file downloaders?
Ehh, don't read much into the Christian label. Theres nothing real specifically Christian about their music (same with MxPx). They basically just don't do drugs, drink to excess, sleep around and their music generally has positive overtones.
Have your wife get a part time job with the post office or some other government job where she would get government benefits which usually come out ahead of what the private sector offers.
It seems like Sony is targetting the hard-core gamers with the price tag, game selection and exclusivity of the unit itself. Nintendo seems to be going after the soft, middle part of the market that includes casual gamers, stay at home moms and other people who want to pick up and play for a few minutes a day without investing their life in it.
Oracle will offer its Linux support customers full indemnification from intellectual property lawsuits, like the ones filed by SCO.
Weren't most of the SCO lawsuits stating that only the Linux kernel contained their IP? Perhaps this is what Oracle had in mind when only offering to cover the kernel for purposes of indemnification.
Either way, I'm not very knowledgeable on the topic, but the linked article came off as kind of nitpicking
There was also some ugliness, with individuals being hired to stand in line, as was done in Japan earlier this week
Why is that ugly? Seems like capitalism at its finest. If someone is willing to pay for a service and someone is willing to perform that service, whats ugly about that?
Lazy maybe, but hardly ugly
I don't really follow games, what are the most anticipated titles besides the generic football games?
I'll start listening to Variety about contemporary trends as soon as they drop that inane, out-dated hipster lingo that they use instead of the English language.
While I would normally agree with you, the linked article is surprisingly free of any such lingo and uses relatively normal English. In short, RTFA:)
GUIs (there isn't really a standard; perhaps wxWidgets?)
I made the mistake of choosing GTK+ for my application. Only after a while did I realize that GTK+ doesn't run natively on OSX. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably choose Qt.
If you're using Java, Swing is usually a pretty safe bet
Take a deep breath. Nobody is forcing you to read Slashdot, read this article or even enter the thread you're bitching about to post an utterly useless comment *.
If it doesn't interest you, skip to the next article. Problem solved!
Or did you come in here with the expectation that a like-minded individual with mod points would spot you
* Yes, I'm aware my comment is utterly useless as well, I just hope it serves as a reminder for the next jackass with the same opinion
This is marketed to the under 25 crowd? So if you are sitting in a lecture hall, you are constantly getting an update of where everybody in your 50+ buddy list is on campus at that moment?
You're confusing the "under 25 crowd" with the "under 22 crowd", i.e. students.
It sounds like a target is the so called "young professionals" out and about on the town
How many of those people signing up are government agents there to just delete and change everything to what the government wants.
Probably not as many as you would like. Whatever the number is, it will eventually be offset by "real" users.
In these terms, it makes no difference whether they are "government" or not, they are the same as pranksters or Colbert acolytes who would fake information just for the hell of it
They couldn't just focus on broadcasting something other than bluegrass when the news isn't on? At least now I have another reason to not feel bad for never calling in during pledge week.
Hey! I donated a good chunk of money this time around because of the bluegrass music they play. My local station (WAMU) plays bluegrass all day Sunday and I absolutely love it.
Between Azureus and a few useful web applets, I use Java far more than I'd like, as it's the slowest thing on my PC (3ghz/1GB RAM). Would definitely like to see it slimmed down.
Using Azureus as an example of memory problems in Java is like using Firefox as an example of memory problems in C++
The dichotomy that exists between Microsoft Java (which is pretty bad) and Sun Java is, if not jarring, quite irritating. Thankfully, Sun Java is the norm. But if Sun Java is released under the GPL, I expect to see several more versions of Java, most of them incompatible with each other, coming out soon. Iceweasel, anyone?
Why so many projects?
Why not pick one or two and really run them through the wringer? Most of the heavily used projects like Tomcat have already been viewed by thousands of eyes so a cursory overview probably won't be worth the time
Anyways, good luck

Its only 8:44 am EST, most of us haven't enjoyed our coffee yet. Furthermore, what much more can we say that already hasn't been said?
Because everybody knows what EVDO means.
Yeah, the instructions are simple: Don't sign up.
Are you really hurting that much for Karma that you have to pander to the tinfoil hat crowd?
Could someone define the RFI acronym? Neither the summary, article or google can explain it clearly.
...and different attitudes from what I've read

Let me preface this by saying I have no idea what I'm talking about and this is all guesswork. Then again, this is Slashdot..anyways:
Looking back at a previous story, they mention:

Depends on who you're asking. The person who wants me dead would surely say nothing
Fair enough. I still stand by my claim for this instance

Is this really a surprise? This is the same country where you can be caned for simple acts of vandalism.
Very cool. I usually only listen in the morning and afternoon (while I'm grocery shopping or tailgating, go Skins), thats why I haven't heard of her.
Nope, I haven't heard of her.
Hey! I donated a good chunk of money this time around because of the bluegrass music they play. My local station (WAMU) plays bluegrass all day Sunday and I absolutely love it.
I took that to me he wants his downloads to be one-time only and limited to the person who bought it, but I could be wrong.
Using Azureus as an example of memory problems in Java is like using Firefox as an example of memory problems in C++
I see what you're doing there..
