Considering how much speedier my G3 400 laptop is than the PIII 800 desktop (with more RAM) I have for testing, I doubt that Dell is much faster, although the clock speed is certainly higher. Oh, wait, you must mean that the battery drains much faster! Yes, from my experience with Wintel laptops I'm sure the battery drain is much faster.
I've installed 10.2 on my Wallstreet 300 with 64MB and hoo-boy! it can be slow. It's possible that I moved RAM from another laptop when I installed it, because I do seem to recall once having RAM-related problems. When I used it more regularly, it had 128MB and while it wasn't exactly peppy it was certainly more usable.
DOH! too little sleep and too much work make mez a dull (-witted) boy. While the Pismo does seem completely unaffected by the battery issue, I do have what may be a literally unique factor in play - when I work at the office, it's plugged into a Duo power adapter which powers the 'Book but will not charge the battery. I've worked at home a good bit recently and would expect to have been affected by the drainage issue, but the adaptor may be a factor. I may even use my other Duo adaptor at the house to be safe...
Pismo, 10.2 clean install -> 10.2.4 combo, normal battery life.
My mother's iBook 2001 500, 10.2.3 -> 10.2.4, what appears to be a problem, the problem persists but seems lessened after resetting PMU.
I think I'll perform a clean installation and combo upgrade on the iBook tomorrow.:-[
"No customer could care less what your problems are..." That is not true. There are still a great many people in the world who understand that the world does not revolve around them and that reasonable people should not expect unreasonable things. I would be annoyed (by the situation, not by the retailer) but understanding if told that a store could not replace my dead part from their stock because said store would not be reimbursed if they did so. Many people I know would also be understanding. If your sympathy "just ain't there" then you're part of what is wrong with our society. Why do so many people do so many bad things to other people? Because they don't care about others, they only care about what they feel they're entitled to. Well, you don't have an inalienable right to a free battery any more than some crackhead has an inalienable right to my former roommate's bass amp. Taking something to which you have no right without providing any payment/reimbursement is not something you can reasonably expect. You're apparently a real jackass and if the people around you aren't understanding of your problems it may be at least occasionally because you're not understanding of theirs. Get a life and understand that those other bipeds of humanoid appearance surrounding you are also honest-to-goodness people.

Just along the lines of my thought. Could anyone both knowledgeable enough about internet tech and bright enough to write a browser be uninformed enough about internet tech and dense enough to believe he'll make a fortune through an internet company? gee whillikers!
I just hope the business turns around that much by the time the fellow graduates Harvard - which, btw, does have an appeal beyond simply being a (not all that) great tech school. I can easily see it having an appeal beyond that of a major tech school.
"I didn't realize it, but I've been using a Segway HT for one month as of 01/04/03," eh? So does this mean that someone hacked your account and made this post in your name? I ask because whoever made the post clearly realized that you'd been using a Segway for one month as of today, 1/4/3.
maybe the lack of excercise has caused your leg muscles to atrophy and that somehow spread to your brain...
First you should keep in mind that it's Motorola who are too slack to keep their chip development up to date. Next you should know just how much speedier G3/4s tend to be than Pentiums. I got a 800Mhz PIII with 256 Megs to use for testing scripts and apps for my new job. My boss was slightly apologetic about the fact that I was getting such a slow machine, but my thought was that at least it would be faster than my 400Mhz G3 128 Megs. Well, it's a good thing that I don't want to do much with it because as soon as I start running two or three apps the Powerbook races past it. It's faster than Virtual PC running XP would be, I'm sure, but possibly slower than VPC running 95 (if I were to switch to OS 9 to run VPC, that is). I used to preach the AIM-Intel speed gap and it's even greater than I realized.
"Channels #" suggests that you may be confusing Usenet with IRC, which I rarely use due to my dial-up connection (it takes too long to find interesting channels). In case you're simply mixing your terms, I'll reply with Usenet group suggestions.
I prefer to check out alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.bootlegs, alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.indie, alt.binaries.music.shn and occasionally others, but groups exist for tastes ranging from alt.binaries.contemporaryacademicmusic.mp3 to alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.brass-and-military-bands, alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.complete_cd.norsk to alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.thai.
Most (probably all) newsreaders will allow you to filter groups by keywords - try viewing all groups containing "mp3," "sounds," "music," or your favored group/style/decade/format.
It can also be entertaining (and frightening) to check out group names at random - for instance, when I filtered by "boot" to get the precise bootleg group name, I also saw "alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.fetish.balletboots, alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.fetish.ridingboots, alt.binaries.pictures.go-go-boots, alt.binaries.pictures.rubberboots, alt.fan.finnish.booty.shakers" - every list of new groups (my server updates once a month) contains a number of surprises. I once decided to check out a new "fitness model" group to amuse myself only to find that it was a nude group, not women in one pieces as on the covers of fitness magazines, and that the first picture I opened was a nude shot of the woman who provided my free introductory training when I joined a gym two years ago! (yes, I opened more pictures - it was quite amusing seeing muscle-bound nude shots of someone I know).
Oh, come on. even if you do have an opportunity to post the first reply, please come up with something better than "hmm" or don't post. at least type an actual word.
is Usenet. There is a wide selection of stuff, and you can often post requests and find them filled. Your speed should generally be consistent as you're either connecting to a server at your ISP or to a high-bandwidth paid Usenet provider, there's a community with regulars and chat, and (when using a good server with decent retention) the items posted stick around for days or even weeks.
Unfortunately, Charter (at least when I stopped using them) both throttles and limits Usenet connections (IIRC, 2 connections totalling ~20k); on Roadrunner I can have unlimited connections and speeds totalling 200-300k.
Since I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't like to steal (what can I say-the RIAA and MPAA stink nearly as much as most of the crud they release, but I wouldn't want some guy to drive off in my car because he doesn't approve of used car salesmen), I particularly like the availability of groups dedicated to bootlegs/promo-only material. You can also investigate Old-Time Radio, which is great for commutes/long trips.
Actually, at my last job the guys who only knew VB were pretty incompetent - even writing VBScript! They wound up in sales (or gone) while the coding was continued by the coders who weren't (primarily) VB programmers. The people who went from HTML to VBScript were better coders than the guys who went from VB to VBScript.
Ah, that reminds me of a story I remember seeing in a small, weekly newspaper published in my previous hometown, Madison. According to this front page story (which I couldn't find archived online at the paper's site, http://www.theonion.com), Nevada recently repealed all laws making everything legal.

Lots of good programming on the radio? cool. Could you cite some examples?

Sorry - I had to say this: Your post seems to have been Mac OS X: The Missing Link.

why would they mind that lindows isn't functioning, like windows?
