Certifications are only important if you want to claim you have knowledge of an area but have absolutely no other way of showing that you know it.
If you do have the experience, you give good examples of what you have done which require that knowledge. Simply listing a certification equates to, "Though I haven't done anything to show it, if I was given that task, there is a CHANCE that I could accomplish it." Obviously if you're coming in with no experience, some indication that you can handle the job is helpful. However, going out of your way to get additional hands-on experience will make the potential employer more comfortable than just saying if you had done so, you would have been successful.
Yea, they were a group of friends from Harvard that majored in math & CS. They actually post some technical details of how they calculate the matches here. They even have a technology section where they say which programming languages they use as well as their own open source webserver.
I don't work for OKCupid or anything, I just thought it was cool that it's run by our kind and they're not afraid to include such nerdy information on their FAQ pages.
On a serious note, one of the problems he's going to have is figuring out the kind of person he wants. I'm guessing he has little/no experience. Even if he thinks he knows what he would like, the reality of being with this kind of person may be nothing like what he expected.
JustShootMe: In short, try to get experience with different types of people to see what it is you really like.
PS -- Try to see these girls as humans just like everyone else or you're going to get walked all over. You can learn this now and get a better response from the girls (as well as building healthier relationships), or you can realize it once you've become bitter from a crappy relationship with a girl you resent for doing just what you let her do. (This one goes out to you, Tony!)
Actually, "god mode" would ruin games such as Doom for me. That's why I only would use it on a game once I got tired of playing it. Then I'd just go crazy, blow through the game, and be done with it. After completely annihilating every monster with the unlimited ammo of the supergun and winning, there wasn't much fun for me going back and poking around with a shotgun.
I'm sure it's not the same for everyone, but I doubt if I'm the only one that gets bored with a game after playing it through in god mode.
If the domain was previously owned and expired, it may have just been snatched back up in the hopes that the original owner made a mistake or to get some visitors expecting the old site.
If this is the case, and it isn't a valuable domain already (where it is sure to sell), e-mailing simply alerts the owner that there is someone interested in the domain. They may only have registered it for a 1-year test to see if it gets any bites. If you don't think it will be snatched up otherwise, you can try to simply backorder the domain with a service like GoDaddy and wait for the year to end. I just recovered the domain for a friend's restaurant doing this on Tuesday. I had set him up with a temporary domain last year after losing it so he would still have a presence. It's just redirected now.
Yea, this is actually specified by RFC 2606. example.com/.net/.org are all reserved as well as the TLDs.test,.example,.invalid, and.localhost.
When I'm reading tech books with people not following this RFC it always jumps out at me as unprofessional.
Scientology doesn't really care about winning these cases. One of their tactics to cause fear and control people is by prosecuting and harassing them. This is nothing new!
If your parents will foot 30k, that's only 15k year you need to pay. I think he meant his parents were thinking 30k/yr less than what MIT costs -- not that they were willing to pay 30k.
If you think that's too much, go to a good community college for the first two years, transfer, and still get that MIT degree. The chances of this are EXTREMELY slim. MIT takes a MAXIMUM of 4 transfer students a year and sometimes they don't take any. I happen to know of two community college students that transferred to MIT, but they were 15 year old, home-schooled siblings. Only the most exceptional people can transfer in. It is harder than getting in as a freshman because you have to hit the ground running at the speed they expect MIT juniors to be at. It would be very hard for most people to adapt.

Jassy, et al. needs to read the RFCs! There are nice, reserved domains for uses such as this: example.com, example.net, and example.org. This is very handy when writing documents of this type and everyone should use it.

The thing is, he WILL get votes by making a MySpace account. I imagine he has had quite a few page views even before this hotlinking debacle. Do you really think he (or someone in his camp) is clueless for creating a presence on one of the most popular websites in the country? I doubt it. That MySpace profile will give him a great amount of exposure -- even more now with all of this publicity.
You can spoof the user agent but it is also possible to tell if the user agent is being spoofed. Sending challenges to the client, checking the format of their response, and seeing how the client handles the announce makes spoofing extremely difficult to an attentive tracker.
The majority of the private sites are using some form of the TBDev source and most of the ones with the user-agent ban mod block obscure clients to reduce cheating.
The client will most likely work fine on public torrent sites but I would hesitate to purchase this card if most of the torrents I am downloading are private. The majority of private trackers ban obscure clients, rendering the Killer NIC's strongest selling point to torrent users useless.
There is nothing abnormal about the Trillian interface. It is also rather customizable. Personally, I'm using a minimalist skin/setup.
I'm guessing what you're thinking of is the old Trillian 0.74 or below. That is the only interface that had anything "different" in it.

I decided to call and ask Comcast for an official answer on this after reading the article.
The official response was, "No, there are no limits. Go nuts!"
That's true. Unfortunately, legitimate research might not be the true goal here.
If you wanted to find the best way to drown someone in a spam attack, what better way than to social engineer a question and get it posted on Slashdot?
Sure it's less hassle to get a computer from Best Buy or Bob's Discount Computers, but of course they advertise it as an "Athlon XP 2100+" for example. Problem is, every other part in that whole computer is trash. Completely generic and not worth the pcb it was built on.
Of course I agree with everyone else on pricewatch and newegg...I don't think it needs to be posted a thousand times though. I just ordered parts for a new computer through NewEgg...received them immediately, everything was great. I was referred to Axiontech by a friend (http://www.axiontech.com) and I've been having problems with them since I ordered, but I still think it's a good place to look (As long as you can understand Englishnamese if you need to call, else you will get NOWHERE.)
My advice for people using Pricewatch is to pick the shops reccomended by the manufacturer. For example, on Corsair's website, you see Monarch listed as a reseller, and you can be sure you'll get your stuff. Don't be caught with a bad company.

I think if it was a trick they would have tried to stick them all across the river in Anacostia somewhere. Now THAT I would have gone to see.

My dad came into our 4th grade career day thing and he worked at a heating and air conditioning company. Everyone looked in pain the entire session.

I'm just waiting for DJB to come in and join in on this topic himself :P

This can all be done using Trillian Pro 2.x or greater using the event system and/or plugins. I believe Gaim can do at least most of this as well.
Hopefully xvid.org will be back up soon... if you want to download 1.0, you can get it from FileForum: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1043 648426

Does anyone else see the parallel between Mark Mclaughlin's defense of SiteFinder and the ATA's defense in stopping the National Do-Not-Call List?
