  2. Re:Big Consequences on Bid to Tax Satellites Rejected · · Score: 1

So, since I spend more time online, I should shell out more tax money to support those who refuse to get a job and support their own family and need my tax money to subsidize their housing and food? Great idea. Better yet, why not let their kids stay home from school too, so we won't have overcrowding?

  3. Countersuit possible? on Several Boycotts Of RIAA Organizing · · Score: 1

Well, if I have my facts straight, the RIAA is suing Napster for providing a vessel in which 'questionable' activities are taking place. Many have probably likened this to the search engines that provide links to 'questionable' material. My question is, "Why not counter-sue the RIAA for providing a vessel for 'questionable' activities?" When was the last time you heard a song where an artist threatens to kill someone, or even just slanders someone? There are laws that prevent this sort of activity (assualt, slander, etc..), so why can't the RIAA be held accountable for that?

  4. What's really happening on Microsoft's IE 5.5 Flouts Industry Standards · · Score: 1

Everyone (espescially MS) knows the future is to "web enable" everything. Now, whether that means using HTML/DHTML/XML/WAP/Whatever remains to be seen. I think that releasing a browser with more features, that works only on certain platforms gives MS the "future" leverage they need. When was the last time you opted to just use Netscape over Mozilla on your Linux box because "you are use to it" and don't have time to "learn" a new browser. I think this is the kind of attitude MS relies on, and the attitude that will carry them into the web/PDA/wearable/whatever future.

In short, NO. The effect lenoids can have on satellites can be equated to shooting it with a .22. Imagine a static charge building up on your PC case...ZAP*!*!

  10. Not more choices, more standardization on A Linux 'Browser War' in the Making? · · Score: 1

Don't get me wrong, choices are a good thing. I am just tired of trying to design pages that look and function the same in different browsers. What we need is a browser that supports the standards as defined by the W3C and the RFC's. Once we have that, then add the "niceties" like JAVA, Shockwave, or whatever makes your eyes happy.

Finally, once this miracle browser is in place, Linux needs members to participate in the W3C to make sure their browser supports the upcoming "standards" and doen't get left behind.

Frankly, this seemed like an article to simply say Java isn't good enough and I can't agree more. Who really needs an extra "compatibility layer" between pc and user? Not I. Next, where was Perl? I'm sure more people use Perl then some of the other choices to solve day to day problems.

  12. Does it really matter? on Sun to release Solaris source code · · Score: 1

With Linux having a little "stability" in the market today will this move by Sun really matter? Are the Linus' out there going to port this over to x86 or other architectures? I think not. The most I see happening with this is a small increase in the SUNW stock graph and maybe a few optimization tweaks for Linux or the other FreeNIX's, and possibly some new "Sun-derived" admin tools for these boxes.

Ok. So the title may be a little misleading but, I have been through the job search process within the last month and have successfully landed a new job. I did use the online job search resources and do agree somewhat with what was said. The postings are mainly from technical recruiters and employement agencies (who usually don't know what Perl, HTML, database admin, etc.. really is). If you are going to get a job you have to go beyond sitting at your desk and typing in eResume's. You have to talk to people. Work your way around the HR drones. And if they ask for a resume in .doc format, give it to them..what's the big deal?

  22. Why RedHat and why pay for it....the answer. on Linux Videoconferencing/Telephony Support · · Score: 1

Obviously, one major concern is "Why go with RedHat?" My answer to that is "a standard". (Without starting a major war) I think people must realize that each distro is unique, each in there own ways (files in different location, libraries, etc..) RedHat is the distro that corporate America (and corporate Earth) sees in the stores, in the news, etc. So it is obvious, RedHat is here to stay and the "Corporation" likes stability. The next point I have is why pay when you can get it for free? Maybe I totally missed the mark but Emory University has developed collaberation software that works on Linux and has audio and video (I think) plus many other features. The source is wide-open and available now.
