Right... this is probably why a search for "perl template engine" in google returns 98,000 results...
The reason why there are so many template engines available for PHP is because they are all different in their own way and there is a need for variety.
I would be pretty pissed off if PHP only had one single template engine available.
Also, for the functions available in PHP, if really you can't handle too many functions, maybe it's time for you to get back to write your apps in assembly... there's a LOT less instructions there...
Well apparently you've never developped a large applications in PHP.
If I want to pull some records off the database, escape the results, set some session variables and THEN display the results from the table in HTML, there's going to be about 70% PHP code and 30% HTML code in there... that's really ugly and the designers I work with will probably attempt to poison my food...
I personally use a proprietary templating engine, but if I was to use any of the open-sourced ones, I would first look at what my requirements are.
If you are looking for a full-fledged templating that has all the bells and whissles, I would recommend Smarty because it has a massive amount of feature and seems to be quite endorsed by official PHP developers.
If you are looking for something a little simpler to bring more speed and less overhead to your presentation layer, I do like the approach of the Sigma templating engine (in the links posted above) as it brings only what you really need and does it very quickly.
Whoever said that PHP only uses inline HTML for the presentation layer is a tool.
Thereareseveraltemplating enginesavailable that effectively separate the application layer and the presentation layer for PHP applications. These engines are quite heavily used also (check the source code of most large open source projects and commercial applications...)
I would love to participate if there was a central and global area to request specific software and pay for it, such as the gnome bounties: http://www.gnome.org/bounties/
If there was a nice big site with a bunch of bounties where users can create their own bounties and actually offer money for the applications, I would gladly pay for any app I request...
It may not be very compatible with everyone but it's pretty easy to disregard the comments and focus on the point of the article...
Also, you make it sound in your previous comment as if everyone should unsubscribe from LJ because of those articles, though it had been voted the best column by LJ subscribers over 2 years in a row IIRC...
That aside, the comments don't bother me at all but I can see how someone could get annoyed with them.
It's also because this hype has been overly promoted on every broadcast 24/7 for the past 5 years...
All I hear on the radio is: "Hey, sick of your job? why not become microsoft certified and make money for doing nothing?!?"
Or on TV: "I was a trucker, never did anything in my life... but then I decided to go to ITT Tech and now after 2 months of distance learning, I'm THE network administrator for a fortune-500 company!"...
People actually buy that bullshit... I mean... come on. I also see a lot of people that one day, when it was time to decide to chose a career, decided "Hey... computer talk is cool... I want to be cool!" and also "Hey, I'm pretty good at warcraft III, I probably have some hidden talent for computers, I should go and be a programmer"
Anyhows, how well would you fare with a 500+ item software catalog to back track and upgrade, huh, huh?
And 50,000+ employes and 27+ Billion dollars in revenue per year... All of a sudden, it doesn't sound too hard anymore huh, huh?
That's about 100 employees per software application. Also, they don't have 500 supported or developped applications... they actually have about 100 that they keep providing support for or are under active development. I'll take that challenge, thank you very much.
Wow... I have to say, this time, I'm really impressed. I mean... Microsoft must be a very good software company if they can make videos that look like movies. Oh wait!
Honnestly though... is that the new FUD campaign we were watching out for? If it is, I think they're hitting (themselves) very hard.
In fact, the job of a parent is to try to give their kids the ability to make decisions they will not have to regret later.
Meeting strangers online might not be a bad thing is your kid is smart enough to not let it go too far and get raped by the goatse guy
Smoking is likely to be a bad decision because they will be likely to get addicted to it and in the long run, it's likely to kill them
I'm pretty sure that the highest priority is to introduce a very high sense of common-sense in kids... 99% of that stuff is just common sense and the more value you give your common-sense, the more likely you are to make proper decisions.
After that, the kids are entitled to make their own choice once they've proven they can make the decisions that they don't have to regret later on.
we all know that repressive households are responsible for all of the worlds strippers and porn stars, and who doesn't love them?
I'm glad to see you have something to hang on to. On a realistic point of view though, the most successfull people in this world have been through a thorough and tough education.
Porn stars and strippers are actually the result of families that didn't give a shit.
Let's not mention the irony of your reference to the inflation being so high by the time you're age 50, meaning my theory of you being around 12 years old seems to valid, in which case you yourself are a kid and are using these arguments so that your mommy and daddy may one day let you post white-trash jerry-springer-reject shit nobody cares about without having to switch back to your AOL homepage when they drop by the door.
I see spoiled little shits everywhere that were never taught anything because their parents decided that their little shits were somehow "entitled" more than the rest of the world and, even worse, decided to make their kids believe that shit.
Spammers should be somehow embedded the goatse.cx guy in their retinas so they can never see anything without having to look at it. *that* is likely the worse punishment ever. That or being chained and your body given away to the goatse guy... either way.

Thanks.
I am actually planning on acquiring a mac anyway, but this is something that was really bothering me.
I knew some people who had macs and they were all using the standard Apple mouse so I didn't think it was even possible to use another mouse.
I'll still need a little time before acquiring a mac though, but it's an investment I will make.
I would love to participate if there was a central and global area to request specific software and pay for it, such as the gnome bounties: http://www.gnome.org/bounties/

I will buy a mac as soon as they start making mouses with a left and right button, and a scrollwheel.
I will pay the price to get myself a nice mac as soon as they do this.
Until then, it's not an alternative to anything as far as I'm concerned.
I demand that IBM open-source WebSphere and Trivoli, as well as Lotus, but also especially Universal DB2!
They have to give an example, after all!
That's also his style.

Dude... he said "dual opteron"
The install will likely take him all of 35 minutes...
You mean you cook your meat?
I just pounce on rabbits.
Troll?
No way... this was funny.

I hope they all die.
Yeah by the way I meant to ask... isn't one of the biggest prides of america its freedom of speech?
SuSE aquisition is complete.
The acquisition is obviously incomplete at this point.
RTFA.
Novell is planning to beef up the number of Ximian, Gnome, Mozilla and OpenOffice developers after its SuSE aquisition is complete.

Actually, Smoking does kill
It is every parent's responsibility to teach his or her children the basics of proxy servers and how to clear the cache.
But not before age 18.
i.e: "This is how I nailed you for the past 5 years, don't get nailed at work the same way"
In fact, the job of a parent is to try to give their kids the ability to make decisions they will not have to regret later.

Beat Your Kids!!

either way.
Once again let's go over that.
SuSe is considered KDE experts because they are the strongest KDE commercial supporters.
Ximian is the Gnome expert because they are the strongest Gnome commercial supporters.
I don't really care what the AC thinks... those are just the facts.
If Novell wanted linux experts and wanted to target only gnome, they would have acquired Redhat, slackware of Mandrake.
There.
