    This is really good news to Java. The open source community always needed a high level language as strong as Java. In the other side, Java always needed a market share as growing as OSS.

    Java done a lot of thing on the middleware level, now is time of desktop level.

    Blind people can be useful in other wat than the criminal, there is a plenty of example out there.

    As a Brazilian I must reply, I don't see Santos-Dumont as the first to fly on a airplane.

    For many years I belivied that the Wright was the firt one, now I agree with this New Zealand aviator.

    The true value of Santos-Dumont is as the "father" of aviation. While the Wright brothers was concerned with the proofit of their invention, Santos-Dumont wanted to make all humanity to use his airplane.

    If the Wright Brothers was the only to build a airplane, their's patents would delay the world's progress on aviation for centurys.

    With this system you can use any Filesystem Hierarchy you want and still having POSIX compliance.

    Although I think the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard is the very usefull for power users (short directory names, each file in its places) it's unreadable for desktop users.

    What can make you a hero, if you tracks a bug in a open source project and uses it in a virus, or if you find a bug to solve it?

    Open source is someway safer for this.

    Theories like sabotage? Think for a while, if Brazil was succed in launch a rocket it will become the only country in south america to do so.

    The technology used on a space rocket is the same used in a long range missile. I can think several country who doesn't want Brazil with long range missile.

    This is a fact: the exact date of this launch was secret because the gov fears sabotage.

    Oh My God, you did it. You just slashdotted my favorite gnome site.

    To stay on topic, Eclipse is very usable if you have enough RAM and CPU power.

    On the company where I work we use Eclipse running on Pentium IV 2.4 with 1 Gb RAM, six developers can use it thought LTSP.

    You can actually test the Brazillian system for you own in this link.

    It's simple, just type the candidate's number (in the bottom) in the machine and hit the green light.

    The orange button corrects a error and the white button cast a vote for none of the candidates. A wrong number will invalidate your voting.

    GNOME 2.4 was not released yet, so there is no way to tell how it will looks alike, the developers are promissing something new, perhaps based on theses screenshots

    It's easy to do a FilePicker exactly equals to a MS one, what is hard a new concept to be used on every upgrade of GNOME.

    The GNOME community is working hard to make a good replacement to his original file selector, as you can see here.
