(this ranks up their with not punishing microsoft, if not higher.)

(you could do it as a teared setup or just unlimited - but the sweet part is they wont use very much bandwidth on there end) they instead decieded to try and make there old fashioned drudging inconvienent bussiness model work. which i dont have a problem with, until they started saying that all technology (all PARTS of a PC, TV's, cd players et al) be crippled by adding "protection"(read: DRM). the funny thing is this will only serve to protect the major labels, and only in the short term at that. it will not help indy artists, it will not help the economy , and it most definetly will not help the consumer. what they fail to realize is that they will sell more records has other people HEAR the music. and guess what - most people dont listen to the radio anymore. and i dont think MTV even plays music anymore......
i say the way to solve the P2P issue is very simple - we should all sue the RIAA for false advertising. the product that they push is not indicative of what the actual product is. (for instance the entire CD is not as good as the single) and for price gouging. (no 20 or even 15 dollars IS NOT what it cost to produce a CD) and dont try to give me this crap about helping the artists. only the fake britney types will make money off selling CD's. the majority of artists make less than a buck per CD sold. and it costs about 3 to produce the entire tight package and CD so there is $4. the store selling it might see another $2, so now were at $6. will split the difference amongst the bands for advertising and say its a rough $3 , and now were at $9. so where the hell does the other 35-55 % go ? to the RIAA ? please ! what makes them so worthy of making so much more than the people who actually MAKE the music ?

a 1ghz sparc was just announced. and with it you can have up to 8mb of cache per proc.
but thats not really the point. for all intensive purposes an 800mhz sparc or alpha is better than or equivelant to a 2ghz x86 chip. both the sparc and alpha are already 64bit and have been for some time. and can have much larger cache on-board than any x86 hardware. and yes it does make that much of a difference.
for now anyway. IBM and Mac are talking about a new consumer end chip. and if the talk is true about IBM trying to buy sun the you can bet you @$$ that those new 'desktop' linux machines will have this chip. and then we will have a major cartel fighting a major cartel. and i would give the advantage to the IBM/Mac/linux/Sun cartel. why ? because sun and IBM control the workplace. and in case you forgot the workplace is where microsoft started, then people bought the 'new' things for home. oh and you forget.

and coming from somebody who works for a "service" based company i can tell you the developers make the apps we use to track cases, find docs etc.... and they get paid rather nicely to 70k +.

Do You Want YOUR personal data kept on windows boxes ? i mean REALLY? are you comfortable having all the unpleaseant people of the world being able to get access to your personal data ? cause ill tell you what - im not , and having open-ED source software that can be patched quicker and more effectively than by some company who wants to start a panick and then "sell another soulution to the issue". think about it. im not even saying i dont want microsoft software on the boxes. just i want something that can be viewed and fixed pre-emptively if need be. and if microsoft doesnt want to have employees of the state of CA sign NDA's and open their source to make US safer - they can take a flyin leap off a bridge.
