I'd suggest you get new friends:) Every single person I've talked to in real life loves this game even more than the first one. If it wasn't good, people wouldn't still be playing it with a passion.
Halo 2 lived up to the hype and more, that's why it continues to sell in bucket loads, that's why people are logged into Live 20 hours a day playing it, and that's why it will continue to be a definitive online game until Halo 2.5/3 is released.
YMMV.

It's a killer app, and an amazing game that a whole lot o' people love and enjoy. Word of mouth alone would sell a trillion copies of H2.
It's amazing how many fanboys are crying in their milk over the GOTY annoucement. It's an awesome game. More power to you if you don't like it, but there's a reason it's doing so well. Just because you loathe it with a vengeance does not erase the fact that it's an amazing game which many people love and enjoy.
And while you're at it do the following:
1. Put down your milk and cookies 2. Take off your MS bashing beanie 3. Repeat after me: "there is no conspiracy."
Rinse and repeat a few times, or you know - just go play your own personal GOTY.
For every report that there's a lot in stock, there are many cities with absolutely none in sight, and no mention of when the new shipment will come in. I t is not hype, Nintendo had no idea it was going to be this successful on a launch system.
Apparently asking what the DS stands for is the new "In Soviet Russia". Guess I missed that memo when it came out last week;)
God I love trolls..
Love the Google link, I can't wait to use that in future posts..
I agree to a point, I don't think Sony would release something that will be extremely easy to break. On the other hand, having a high speed spinning disc scorching in the back is a little more disconcerting than a simple SD card. Moving components always break first.
I agree to a point. I mean there's absolutely no doubt the games look amazing. But the battery life issue and UMD movies are the kiss of death. It's almost emberassing how bad UMD movies are going to fail. I don't like to speculate much as anything can happen, but making people buy the DVD and UMD is insane. The only way I can see UMD succeeding is if the discs cost 1/4 of what a DVD costs, or they are given away for free in magazines, etc. Like promos.
I don't know. I mean it's an okay theory, but most of us on Slashdot are quick to stomp on any technology. Yeah, we're like that old guy sitting on the porch yelling at the kids going by. But with technology.
Seriously, no saracasm here, but I think it's a great idea. But while we are on the topic of video games, I think this should also be done with all other forms of media. Music, Books, TV, Movies, etc. Don't just stop at games because it's the biggest target folks. Stop by your local Chapters and I guarantee most kids can walk out with the most vile, putrid and explicit book known to man.
Also, if little Johnny can get denied access to purchasing GTA, but can still flip on channel 39 and watch hard-core anal pounding sex when he gets home, I think we still have a problem folks.
Even if he can't purchase it, he will see or play it. There's no denying that. Kids are very resiliant.
The most important step in this equation is frequently overlooked. If you spend more time with your children and shape them with your ideals, they will be less prone to rebelling, and these "inaccessible" items will seem less tempting. Be active with your kids. Take them to sports, ask them how their day went. Don't just shuffle them in a room and utter a casual home when you get back from work.
Be good parents and stop blaming leisure activities for your problems.
Most gamers are into a lot of genres, the non-gamers tend to stick to one particular genre, ala the racing gearheads. They most likely don't play too much other than one game at a time.
Us hardcore dudes however, have no problems with delays, as we usually have way too many awesome games to play as is.
Sony dropped the ball on GT4. Big fucking mistake.
Have one on preorder, and the more I hear about it the more excited I am to get my hands on it. Yes all these features have been done before to some extent on PDA's, etc. But for the first time it looks like all this technology will just "click" together.
Let's hope the 3rd party support is beefed up so it won't suffer the Nintendo "Syndrome". Great first party, not enough 3rd party "Great" titles. (ie. not counting shovelware).
One of these kiosks has just sprung up in the mega-mall around where I work. At lunch time I played on one, and I must say it was probably the worst controller I have ever touched. And they had the nerve to ask $79.99 for it. Hah!
I showed my friends the article, I think we might just pose as NOA and shut em down:)
You need to do some research. Mind you I'm not an LCD hater, I think they look very nice. But technically they still have a lot of catching up to do to reach CRT performance and saturation, black levels, you name it.
Spend some time on Google if you must, or read one of the 1,000,000 threads on www.avsforum.com, but there's absolutely no contesting that CRT technology provides the best picture.
You may not have realized it, but it's a well known fact among those who have invested a little time in researching displays.
If it doesn't bother you, that's great, ignorance is bliss. If you want to spend a few minutes, I'd suggest googling "CRT vs LCD" and "Black Levels". Or check out www.avsforum.com. Or here:

There's no argument, it's a well known fact that CRT's are the best, and LCD's are among the worst when it comes to display technology.
Does that mean the image is terrible? Not at all. I find they look quite nice, but technically they have a bit of catching up to do yet.
I'm suprised no one's mentioned on of the big drawbacks of LCD - Contrast Ratio. You just won't get the true deep, rich black levels that you would on a CRT. What's an average CR for an LCD display, 500:1 or so? Maybe 750:1 for a high end display? Even with my 1500:1 CR DLP Projector the blacks appear a bit washed out and greyish as compared to my CRT's.
CRT's are still the king of displays, eventually digital will catch up, but they are tried and true. Of course the bigger they are, the more chance you have of putting out your back;)
You can't beat the sleekness and modern styling of the flat panels though, they do look wonderful.
What they need is online versions of these games where you can compete with others, like yahoo games or what not.
I know it would interest a lot of non-gamers to be able to play "Ink Link" and Pop-Cap puzzle games for a very (very) low price, seeing as they are mostly free online.

I'd say Feel the Magic is another killer app, but other than that and Mario, it's very bland.

You took the words right out of my mouth ;)
I also hate the tangy, greasy barbeque sauce all over my screen, let alone my pants..

Haha.. yeah we're all geeks. I'm a perpetual time waster, I could you know, be out saving the world or something.
So do you apparently by reading Slashdot eh? ;)
So all the 8 year old's reading slashdot will run out and buy it? :)

Obviously this article piqued your interest. And you're reading Slashdot, so I'm quite sure telling others they aren't cool is slightly ironic.

Ya sure about that?

Where do they store them all? I thought one of the reason against the Xbox was the huge size. How can they afford to double stack PS2's!
The SP is unstoppable. I have no doubt Nintendo will have many wonderful years to come with the DS.
