Whatever is created can also be hacked. That's both scary and liberating at the same time.
I'm used to incompetence on a daily basis from every person I deal with, from the grocer, to my friendly neighborhood hospital. We're human, and I make mistakes as much as the nex guy. Technology isn't going to solve these problems, but I can see the mistakes being more severe.
We're on our way to being slaves to data.. I wonder how close we are to the 20,000 year cycle, and if our number close to being up. Take that as you will;)
All they are doing is reporting what is widely known in all the other media outlets. That's like a PSP site reporting that the DS has dual-screens. Both examples are well known facts:-P

Goodbye 10 hours (PSP)
Very little in the gaming world requires you to actually *watch* two screens.
It's called innovation, it's a great idea that's been improperly utilized up to date. I know a lot of people who would love to have multiple views in an RTS, one being a touch interface for troop management. The creative options are endless..
The second screen isn't nessesary. In fact, they probably would have done better to make a portable with a larger screen with a better 3Dchipset.
See PSP. How long you want this thing to run for? Also notice the phenomenon that we're currently playing SNES games at least 2 generations behind on the GBA, and having a hell of a time doing so. Sure it would have been nicer to have at least DC quality, but I'm not complaining.
It's cheap, powerful, innovative, and backwards compatible with the biggest selling video game machine ever made. That's worth something.
Funny you mention the PSP and DS - how many of those games have you played?
What's the matter.. not enough RPG's featuring half-naked man-boys with big doe eyes?
I wouldn't even call you a fanboy, that's too good of a title. A true gamer recognizes awesome games regardless of platform.
Unless you literally have a piece of electronics shoved firmly up your ass, your senseless allegience to a large consumer electronics manufacturer is just plain silly.
As Sean Connery would say - suck it long, and suck it hard.
I thought the same thing myself a few times while playing FFTA on my GBA, well within reach of my Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, PC and HDTV.
But it's a different experience, much like playing a game of poker can be addicting. You won't get the immersion factor of say.. Morrowind with surround sound on a 120" screen, but as long as the competition, leveling, etc is there, it can be quite enjoyable.
I don't have the link but I grabbed this from Bittorrent the other day, as I don't have cable. It was pretty informative, but if you're a gamer you've heard this all before.
It's a great show for the older crowd, as it really drives home the fact that games aren't just for kids anymore, but an emerging media that is rivalling the movie industry.
Plus they talk about MMO addicts, what more could you want!
It's a long read, but this is the most informative thread on Rear Projection CRT vs DLP vs LCD I've seen.
Apparently the worst thing you can do is buy LCD, RP CRT has an absolutely amazing picture after tuning, and DLP has some strong points as well as some negatives.
A must read for those (like myself) who are looking for a set and have been overwhelmed with choices.
I'll probably end up with a Toshiba or Hitachi CRT RPTV, as they are highly regarded by the videophiles.
Actually I guess it is quite sad, we're in our late 20's and should be doing something productive with our time, like mowing the lawns or re-doing our taxes.
I dunno, what DO cool kids do nowadays?
Correct:) I miss that when I have to play 2 player. At the end of each round when the Links are on the pedastal, if you have 4 players you can secretly vote who was "Most Bothersome" and who was "Most Helpful". So the biggest jerk can end up losing out on the bonus:)
(of course I'm always the biggest jerk... boo)
I just love how cut-throat it can get, the greed factor just kills me! Yeah, I'm a self-admitted "Force Whore"..
Being able to secretly vote at the end of the round is just priceless. I also love how when you die, your forces are scattered and ready for pillaging - you screw people over and it comes back to you ten-fold:)
Zelda: 4 Swords is a very solid testament to the "Less is More" approach. I had a friend come over and scold me for buying what looked to be a SNES grade title, but as soon as all four of us had our glowing SP's in hand, it was a whole different story.
I'm keeping the 3 SP's and the GBA I have in hopes that they will be utilized in some way with the GC2, a'la Zelda:4 Swords. If not then I will remain very bitter with Nintendo for a long time for buying into their "connectivity" scam.
Sequels are a great way for developers to take a great existing game and make it even greater - as long as the game itself evolves and doesn't feel like an expansion pack ie. GTA:VC, Advance Wars 2. A sequel needs to bring a lot more to the table than just more missions, and it must fix the most common complaints/bugs from the previous game.
I loved Alien, and to this day I still think Aliens is one of the best action movies ever made, and a damn awesome sequel. And cmon, who doesn't love Bill Paxton in that movie:)
The other ones were entertaining, but no where near as great as the first two.
What I did was pick up some cheap older GBA's - found a couple for around $15 each, that's hardly an investment.
I think it's even worse for a PS2 owner. With the price of the console, multitap, ethernet, hard drive, and memory cards - now THAT's an investment! (and it's already called an Xbox).
I think the connectivity is great though, it expands conventional game design - even a simple game like PacMan is a whole new experience.
I can't remember where I heard this but I thought the reasoning was due to a localization issue - that the english voices would add more time to the development cost/timeframe. Either way I'm a bit annoyed it won't be included, I sure hope the price is set accordingly.
Didn't Nintendo try to shut down the Game Rental industry back in the eighties? I've always wondered how much rentals have cut into sales. Then again, you don't expect to buy a car (or date a girl) without test driving it first:)
I was contemplating another Xbox so I can use Live, but I swear to god if someone sees another console in my entertainment unit they will think I have a problem.

And it's impossible to replace a 20 cent piece of plastic or temporarily use your finger? Who's smoking the crack?
Batteries in a handheld, how 1990's :P

Maybe we will finally see Halo on another platform, keyboard and mouse be damned!

Here's hoping the Beowulf filter comes right after.. you know you read slashdot too much when..
