    Ah then you may find something of this nature handy.
    No name yet, but it's just a zip file that contains a handly little script .wsh, that calls wget http://mydomain.com/linux/firefox/version=?latest

    and redirects to grab the latest.

    keep this on a floppy or usb drive and you'll never have to use IE again.

    pretty cool eh?

    I've been able to crap an install in under 50 megs, with a pretty X display and a handful of tools. Not all of them, but just the few I need.a few. Now I'm creating a distro that has it's own installer much like the windows installer of .msi. called the Linux Installer. something like package-version.?li

    yeah it might not be popular at all, but that's what redhat and patrick of slackware said too.

    Windows Update, Norton Internet Security Including Anti-Virus 200x (Pro/Corp) edition, Office 2003Pro (full install), Office Updates.

    Boot w/norton ghost, create partition image to a hidden fat32 partition. No need to reinstall. Wash, rinse repeat every 6-12 months. If something goes wrong, image the drive and presto, new system in 5 minutes.

    what many people seem to believe is that the earth is only 7000 or so years old. I don't believe this one bit.

    It's written that the earth was created in 7 days. There are some places (I can't cite them ATM) saying that one day in God's time is 1000 years to us mortals. He creates the earth in 7 days, hence in totality, it takes 7000 years for the earth to be created, give or take a few hundered years. *ducks the lightning*

    Granted, also many things happened in the Heavans before man was sent to the earth, everything having been created in spirit form before it was physical (or at least physical as we know it now). this includes the earth.

    I'm not going to preach to anyone here, but from what I've gathered and understood (not taking things blindly either, for all you hecklers) the earth is FAR older than 10,000+ years. And this is just going on the evidence I've read about.

    perhaps because they're shortsighted, much like their previous record will state. SCO/Caldera/Canopy has never had a great track record for solving problems.

    Perhaps they may have, but that's purly speculation on my part.

    actually this is a serious problem. the programmers who develop games sometimes don't understand that gamers have limits and can't break their banks for the 69.99 game and 200 $ worh of ram every new release.

    if programming and programmers tried to make their code smaller, while avoiding pitfalls like 600MB installs (re q3,halflife etc.) wouldn't the games be more popular?

    heck, even office 2003 full install is almost a gig. ONE FREAKING GIGABYTE!!!

    Tell me why you need a 300 meg install for a word processor, spell-check feature and some rtf formatting? anyone? ............. didn't think so.

    Oh it is, don't worry guys. Most of the greatest warez groups aren't publicly known, when in fact they have "fronts" that get fed all the software with expendable people. So in terms i could be considered a mafia of sorts. Thoes let inside are asked to join. :)

    Think about it. How else could some of this shiz get out so fast, then dozens of 'groups' and sites are taken down the following month? the software is out now, and those expendable (ie: stuck in mommy's basement) are gone. Job done.

    i have. i used to work for a number of companies in upstate new york, boston and salt lake city in the past 8 years. I worked a regular 40 hour work week in the office/on call (ie. would work 30 hours in the office, telecommute, and take calls on weekends) and would always get paid overtime for my work.

    I'm not sure what companies many of you /.ers were working for, but you were getting ripped off.

    oh yeah one more thing. one company didn't give me time and a half for working overtime, they kept paying me my regular rate. it was a LOW stress job that wouldn't call me at 3am for a server being down, we were a public company, but if a server went down at 3am EST, and no one noticed till 6am (when I showed up) it wasnt a big deal like most people believed.

    (sorry, when your boss is screaming because one person, ONE PERSON, couldn't dial in at 3am to update some mundane detail that could have waited till the morning, he should be the one fired or fix it himself. and that's precicely what happened at this job)
