Can you get a 32" widescreen monitor to the same price as a TV? Also, buying a DVD player, place it in your computer and have it show the DVD on the TV is not exactly a trivial task for most users.

You said yourself they're (single purpose devices) easy to set up, and Gates' vision is that the computer should be able to do this task without much need for interatctions with the user.

Exactly. What Inuit is doing is not exactly commonplace. Microsoft dropped support for Win98 or whatever many years later, but what Inuit is doing is basically disabling certain features of an application that's 3 years old. Perhaps a lame analogy, but that would be like Microsoft disabling the ability to use Internet for Win98 users in 2001.
This is a bad decision from Inuit, but has nothing to do with proprietary software vendors as a whole.

W3C's OWL standard is a "language" to mark-up information to make it more meaningful to machines. Machines can draw conclusions to what a word means by context. So even if two words are the same, they may not mean the same and the computer can draw that conclusion based on the context. It's all a part of W3C's Semantic Web initiative. There is research dedicated to query languages for these kinds of files.

I will wait to cast judgement until I actually see Longhorn, and frankly, I think most people should.

But what has FIFA 2005 or the Sims done wrong? There might be a chance that FIFA has a country listed that China doesn't recognize as sovereign, but I'm not sure which one that would be (I don't even play FIFA).

The remaining are illegally distributed foreign games including Conflict Vietnam, Vietcong: Fist Alpha and Devastation

I can't really figure out why they would outlaw FIFA and Sims..? I agree that it sounds like banning pirated games and not the games themselves.
