Does that include jukebox software? Does that include movie editing software? Does that include photo editing software? Does that include an OS with commericial AND open source support? Will that computer integrate with an iPod right out of the box?
I didn't think so. And do give me any crap about being about to install Linux on there for free. I'm not talking about the cost of the OS.
If you don't care about any of those things, fine buy a PC, Macs aren't targeted at people like you. They're targeted at people that place a value on the things that I listed above.
Ya, but a pretty easy one to make. Once you have your GUI, you can make a browser quickly with WebCore. Then all you need is features that complement the "browsing experience". This is what Apple has done with Safari, and what Omni will do with OW. Hopefully this will allow more feature innovation since the rendering engine is taken care of.
This is really interesting since there are a hell of a lot of browsers out there for OS X (IE, Chimera, Mozilla, OmniWeb, Netscape, iCab, Opera, and now Safari). This may lead to even more browsers, so you should be able to find one that fits your style.
The GameCube also has a 32-bit processor similar to those used in Apple's iMac and TiBook computers.
Yes, IBM makes the chip in the GameCube. Yes it is a variant of the G3, but it is very unlike the processor in the (old) iMac, and extremely unlike the processor in the TiBook.
Are you using Quartz Extreme? Otherwise, every window is stored as a (compressed) bitmap in main system memory (iirc). So your results make sense.
Uh... it'd get to zero eventually if they were rounding. =)
Al, is that you?
Just asking... do any Pentium-M notebooks have a DVD Writer? ... or a 17" inch screen?. ...or are an inch thick?
um, no.
The iMac came out in August 1998, and was annoucned in May. So it'll be five years soon.
No, it'll make them send out more.
Sigh.

But that slogan kind of implies that you already have the CDs and can legally rip them, mix them, then burn them.
I think it really odd that Apple is on that list.
They have been going after Holywood and TV studio business for the past couple of years. I.e. the Purchase of Final Cut Pro, Tremor, Shake, etc.
She reads slashdot?

That doesn't matter since Miyamoto didn't work on Metroid (although its a damn fine game).
I heard linux 95 will kick everyone's ass
Do you need warez for linux?
Yes, but they did have SCSI port on the back. =)
Apple used SCSI on nearly all of their computers from the late 80s until '97. That included the consumer Performa models.

(+1) Insightful!
Uh, the XServe comes with OS X. You can buy a larger license if you need it, though.
...huge group of people...
Um, so a large group of people with alot of money is pushing for certain things. Of course they are going to have more power than an individual.
I'm not saying that I condone the conduct of all corporations, but I think that your arugment is flawed
with a name like that, how could it not be sexy?
I bet LCDs have a slighty higher percentage of the laptop market.
Only the Computer Science/Math doubles.
CMU
We have a very well thought out balance of theory and practice. In two semesters we go from SML (ultimate theory language) to C hacking.
