    That's true. I should have been more specific on that I guess.. there are alot of things they make incompatible between releases of various softwares, but I agree that they carry alot of old garbage along for the ride as well.

    When I wrote that, I was thinking of all the old programs that I had to install Win3 DLLs for, because there was no 9x counterpart.

    That's a perfect example of backwards compatability as well. I do wish alot more software was that way.. and not just that which spews from the Evil Empire. (though they ARE a big offender)

    Ads? Damn annoying, but they have their place, if used within reason. I trust the folks running the show here have a good sense of reason. Right?

    Subscription? Also annoying, but to a smaller degree. Provided there is *NEVER* anything 'blocked' to non-subscribers, and that the fees are reasonable, then again I do not see a problem.

    As for the OSDN bar, it's ugly, but it's small and not too intrusive at all. So I'm planning on leaving it alone. :)

    As an aside, I tried a smaller subject and got a "Lameness filter encountered." message. My subject was greater then three characters, which is what that filter should be. :/

    Look at this real quick.

    Maybe not each and every Muslim is to blame. In fact I'd be surprised as hell if literally an entire people were of one mind to do something like that. But how do you propose that we go about filtering the good apples from the bad? How would you suggest we stop the terrorism they're propagating ALL OVER THE WORLD eh?

    They may not all be bad, but enough are (and are of enough magnitude) that an equally extreme strike on them is the only way. These people only understand and respect a power greater than their own, and that's only after they get the shit beat out of themselves by it. That's not MY hate, it's their own, so let the bastards live, or die, with it.

    I'm not an Anti-Katz fanatic. I happen to think he's actually a good writer.

    But why in every review he does of every movie is he downing it? This movie wasn't intended as a remake. Sure, they pay homage to the originals, but how could that be avoided? It shouldn't be *compared* as it's not the same animal. Pardon my bad humor.

    I've seen all of the oldschool Apes movies. And I plan on seeing this one as well. But, unlike our lofty reviewer here, I plan on crediting it on it's own merits. I would advise anyone else who watches it to do the same thing.

    What I want is a 'commercial' button on my digital box.. to shut the damn things off. They target ads for meds for irritable bowel syndrome right at 5:30ish, aka SUPPERTIME. It's disgusting..

    For now, I mute the things and do something else for 15 minutes until the next 5 minute block of program..

Books don't give you that I-want-to-gouge-out-my-eyeballs headache like a CRT can.. and when was the last time you curled up in a chair next to a crackling fire with your pc in your hands?     So, I have hardly even looked around for alternative TiVo-like recorders.. I don't own one, and don't want one of *theirs*.. but I would like to glom onto one which is a bit more free (in the FSF sense if possible).

    Does anyone know of any good places to start looking? And no, goatse.cx is *not* a good starting place, even if that guy could hold eight nonremovable drives in there. :P

    heh.. did I read that headline incorrectly?
    It looks to me (from that) as though they're pusing for games you rent, regardless of wether or not you own the disc.
    I mean, read this from the initial posting:

    Now, the next logical step is for them to charge for the games by-use. I think I'll remain away from this hyped up overmarketed underdeveloped crap..
