The last day/first day is not a traditional day. It's an annual day called "festivus" or similar and followed by Jan 1 on Monday (or Sunday - however that shakes out)
I've thought that 13 months with 4 weeks each would be so much better. Every year is missing a "day" but it could just be a New Year's Day holiday. The benefit of having a day always being a date would make so many things so much easier.
Is humanity past fearing the number 13 so much that we could have a rational calendar?
If you read the replies in this thread, especially from those familiar with the Department, you will see that you are just plain wrong. 1) They haven't always "gone with Microsoft". They are currently a Notes shop. 2) The did consider alternative products (again, Notes).
Sure, but how much time is going to be wasted now that the inevitable bake-off has to happen? And how much more will it cost to continue to operate the existing infrastructure until the decision is finally made to go with Microsoft anyway? This is just a waste of taxpayer money all around. It remains that if Google has to sue to try to get a customer, even a government customer, it looks as though they can't compete on the merits of their offering. I'm not asserting whether that is true or not.
Of which there were many. Or rather there are parts of the plot that make almost no sense and seem bolted on to try to give some meaning to a pretty thin plot. The whole ISOs concept, for being as important as it was supposed to be was glossed over in a 30 second flashback that didn't answer any questions... heck, it barely asked any. The idea of Tron being the right hand henchman and Flynn recognizing him at the end... pointless and really unexplained. Did Flynn recognize Tron because he was upside down or something? I mean that was the only thing that seemed to give away who he was. I just couldn't grasp the motivation of nearly anyone in the whole story and the dialog rivals Attack of the Clones for stilted and wooden (did Sam ever put more than 4 words together in a sentence... actually, more than 4 syllables?). All in all, I was really disappointed with the story. But then again, I saw the original Tron in theaters when I was 8 and thought it was awesome. Seeing it again recently it seemed pretty cheesy, yet it's overriding principles of individualism vs. central control (anti-Soviet propaganda even?) and parallels between real world people and programs displayed better ideas than Legacy.
And call me old but Journey and Eurythmics were the best part of the score for me. Don't know why all the hype for Daft Punk.
...and despite communicating the company policy regarding separation and removal of company data from devices, I've still had to hear the distraught cries from people who lost pictures of their kids, personal emails, etc. It seems excessive that Exchange Remote Wipe destroys data across the whole device (eg Pictures, Notes, other email accounts). I don't know if that is something Microsoft or Apple has to fix but it needs a fix.
I'm happy to not be in that role now.
I thought BT was the main form of distribution for porn? If there's another industry that has mastered the "First one is free" concept better, I'd like to know what it is.
this won't be popular to say on slashdot but really? NeoOffice and Eclipse? That's your negative consequences?
The crossover of Mac users/OpenOffice fans and/or Eclipse developers has to number in the several dozens.
And as far _business_ applications in java breaking - maybe you missed the part where we are talking about the Mac?
I've used Identity Theft Shield for the last few years and it's helpful for taking care of this kind of thing. Tied to a legal plan, you have access to the legal representation you need as well. It's little money well spent: http://bit.ly/aKbg6V

The Irish government is so broke, what is the MAFIAA going get? Ireland is judgement proof.
You can type in anything and we'll show you the data we have sounds a lot like Google search.
...what our co-workers think.
Wonder if the names and cc#s of subscribers will get pastebin'd. Did NYT cover Anonymous' stratfor attack unfavorably or something?

I like the eyewitness accounts in The Last Ringbearer

When a company has to litigate to get customers/compete, it's not a good sign.
by Avatar, you mean The Last Airbender, right? I agree it was as good as that.

Shoot. Too early. 20 minutes... yeah. That's more time consuming.
A full 20 seconds? How do you stand it?
iPhone autocorrection at its normal.
Full service IT at it's best.
