I thought that memresistors were suppose to be one of the greatest invention in computers. HP was suppose to have invented it and it was suppose to go into production around 2012. I thought they were suppose to be a non-volatile ram memory so that it would mean near instant booting of the computer. It will not be the first or last time someone has introduced a product that never made it to the market.
The freeway itself should be able to know where every automobile is located on the freeway. Every car should have a Wi-Fi system so that it can broadcast its speed and location to every car within a half of a mile of its location. Every car would be on cruise control so that if the car was in a particular lane its speed would be a certain speed in order to maintain a safe separation distance. Turning on one's turn signal would control the speed of the cars in the desired lane so that one could safely get in their desired lane. If there were a sudden occurrence of fog or ice than everyone would receive instructions on their speed to safely decrease everyone's speed. Every car should have a gps system and programmed for its desired destination so that when it must change lanes to exit every car around it would be notified and could respond to its need.
The republicans have already stated that if they win they will save the rich 700 billion dollars. Now how many think there isn't a small number of the rich that would invest a billion or two to ensure that the republicans win? The only sure way is to cheat. The only sure way to avoid that is to make sure the election can be verified. Bush's election cost the average Americans well into the trillions of dollars. Now they want to make the middle class pay for it.
Suppose one could bypass the eyes or ears with electronics so the the blind and deaf could see or hear. Now suppose one could do that for all of our senses. Now suppose one could keep the brain alive outside of the body for a long time. Now suppose one could hook up that brain to a computer and provide a total artificial world . Would the brain know that it is in a artificial world? Now proof that it already has not happened. Maybe the world with all its challenges is the best that can be provided for us to keep one interested in their life. Only after one dies does one realize what is reality and after a short amount of time one again is reborn in another artificial world. In order to maintain one's interest in the present world one can not have a memory of the past worlds or know for certain that one is going to go into another world after death.
I just checked my digital watch and it was slow by about 10 seconds. I check it about once a month and it has not been slow by more than 15 seconds so far. It also tells me the day of the week and the month and day of the month. It knows what year it is so it will adjust for leap years not like analog watches which will make one manually adjust the day of the month on the 1st of the month of every month that is preceded by a month which has less than 31 days. Thus one will see that it is February 29 instead of March 1st. The new digital watches will automatically adjust for daylight savings time and there are atomic wristwatches that will adjust their time every day by a radio signal so they are never off the correct time by more than a second. The thing I do not like is watching the ball fall in New York times square on television(Jan 1st) and it will be late by around 7 seconds because they have to delay live broadcast so they can censure any swear words. I would think that most of the viewers are mature enough that they could endure a swear word so that we could celebrate the new year on time.
World Community Grid is sponsored by IBM. They are approaching a half a million years of donated cpu time. They do not even have to purchase the gpu since the volunteers do that. The only thing they do need to do is to write the program to utilize the gpu the members pocess. Even after several member asking them to utilize their gpu, they have not done so. It still must be too expensive or difficult to program the gpu or IBM would have done it years ago.
Why can't they get their facts right before they report them? It was first stated that Osama had a weapon and was shot only after he was warned to put the weapon down. Now it is being reported that Osama did not have a weapon. If they had captured Osama alive the government would have had enormous problems on trying to convict him and to execute him if convicted. How many now do not believe that the military personnel were ordered to kill him even before they were absolutely sure that it was him?
E-mail is used only by old Koreans. It is so 20th century. The government should have a Watson like computer that could instantly respond to all of its citizens inquires. President Obama should get one so people could inquire about his policies during the next presidential race.
The county I live in Michigan is doing everything it can to stop the windmills from being built here. They have already voted down a proposals to build the windmills offshore in Lake Michigan. The people who are mostly here only in the summer consider the windmills in the lake to be a eyesore. Now when they are trying to build them on land, they are trying to severely limit the sound and have a large area between the windmill and any other owned property. The land area will be huge if one must own all the land within a quarter of a mile of a windmill. Some people are complaining that the windmill could break and throw piece into their homes or ice could build up on the vanes and be thrown into their houses. I see that GE has a plan for better windmills which should be available at the end of this year so maybe it is better for the local energy company to wait until all the issues have been solved.
If one is at home most of the time than delivery would work. When I order something online and get it delivered, I can check its progress online. It tells me what day it will be delivered but not what time so I feel like a prisoner in my home until the product is delivered. I would much prefer a pick up point where I could go after an email was sent telling me it was there. The same goes for groceries, I would prefer to shop online and than go to the store and pickup my order. It would be nice if one could drive up to a covered area and see a large door which opens up after one pays for the items. One would than walk into the area and transfer the goods to one's vehicle. This would be especially nice when one needs a few non grocery items. Now one has to search the store and walk about a quarter of a mile to get them too. It would be a time saver for everyone and could be economical since it would mean less employees and less thievery. It would also mean a much smaller store and parking lot. When the products are delivered to the pickup area automatically by conveyor belts it would mean a lot less employees.
Doesn't ones download speed depend on a whole lot more than the ISP's download speed to the user. For instance I have 18Mbit/sec. Divide that by 8 and I get 2.25MBytes/sec. When I download a upgrade to my Ubuntu system I never get a download speed greater than a hundred thousand bytes per second. At that speed a 40 Mega byte download takes a little over 6 minutes. When I will download Ubuntu 11.04 in a couple of weeks which will be at least 250 Mega bytes, it should take less than 2 minutes at my rated speed. I am sure that it will take closer to 20 minutes to download as the speed will vary greatly. If a server has a thousand user downloading an upgrade at the same time and each user has 2.25MBytes of download speed than that server would have an upload speed of 1000 times 2.25MBytes/sec or 2.25GBytes/sec or 18Gbits/sec. I think there are very few servers that can do that. So my question is what the use of greater download speed if the provider of that data can not maintain even close to the speeds of all of its users.
There is a new site called Quibids.com that disguises itself as a bidding site but is actually a gambling site. The site charges 60 cents a bid. It is so deceptive because if one goes to the site one sees things being bid for at less than 10 per cent of their retail value. One thinks at such a low price maybe I should bid on the product. Now suppose they have a $1,000 product and start the bidding at $1.00. Now most people bid only a penny more each bid therefore after the bidding for the product reaches $17.67 one can calculate that 1,667 people have bid on that product. Multiplying that by 60 cents a bid one can see that the site has received the $1,000 for the product so the product should be given to the lucky last bidder. It is all a sham since the honest thing to do would be to sell raffle tickets for the product and after the required amount of ticket were sold than have a computer choose which one of those people is lucky enough to get the product for free. I have gone to the site and I just feel the greedy part of me trying to get me to bid but the intelligent part tells me to stay completely off the site. I can see where others will get hooked on it and lose a lot of money.
I have an uncle who lives in a rural area in Nebraska. The house use to be the center a medium size farm under his father. He has sold most of it away as has most of his neighbors. He now lives with no neighbors within a quarter of a mile in all directions. The house is very old and his family have all moved away so most likely the house will be demolished after his death or sooner if he and his wife find it too difficult to maintain. I do not think the government should spend thousand of dollars to fiber optic his house for a few years since he is 71 years old and has a heart condition. Even where I live, I have found a house built in a forest area with no neighbors within a 1000 feet. The owners spent over $20,000 just to have a buried electrical line to the house. There is another where the house was built on an island in a small lake. There has to be a density of houses that is too small to bother with since it would be cheaper to buy them and have the people move to a more dense area. As for my uncle, a couple of matches would take care of the problem because after that the land could be converted to farm land. I am sure the electric and phone companies would love not having to maintain the wire necessary to serve just two people.
I worked for the 2010 census. I consider it just a make work project. The vast majority of my time was spent trying to find someone to tell me a particular address did not have anyone living in it on April 1, 2010. They were not computerized enough to have a list of all addresses and their owners. I would think that the census could get a list of the owners and their phone numbers even if it is a cell or an out of state number. That information would have greatly helped in accomplishing my job. I would think that I should have received at least a laptop computer. I would think that people should be able to enter their data on a computer of their choice but if they could not than xzI should have been able to let them use the one I was given. They could collect all sorts of information about people without knowing any information about a particular person. This would ensure the privacy of everyone and thus maybe they would not hesitate to answer them. I live in Michigan and we have a lot of people who only live here in the summer time. In fact my hometown more than doubles in population in the summer months but since they do not count a person as.4 for one state and.6 for another the state of Michigan gets nothing for those people since most of them do not come back to Michigan until the summer. This includes the migrant workers who pick our fruit. And as for representatives the present system is not fair anyway. The state of Wyoming does not have enough people for even one congressman so they get one congressman for about a half a million people but Michigan gets one per about every three quarters of a million people.

The article left so many questions unanswered that it made the article almost useless. For instance how much ram memory in the computer? 64 million bytes would be way too small and 64 billion would be way too large. Is there a hard drive in the computer and if so how large? A trillion bytes would not be unreasonable today. What about the game port? I guess they forgot about that. What operating system will it have? Will it still be instant on machine? Will it boot from read only memory or will it boot from a hard drive(assuming it has one)? I still have a commodore 64 computer and I still believe they are an excellent computer to teach the basic computer language to even college students as 64k bytes is enough for any program that could be written for an assignment/
I do not want to relearn everything I thought I knew about windows when using Ubuntu. In windows when I want to transfer a file from any drive to another drive either on that computer or a computer on the network, I just hit the windows key and the letter e at the same time and I get windows explorer. I can easily transfer the file by hitting control c when I am on the file and control v when I am on the directory I want it. On windows disk are usually a letter. On Ubuntu they are four characters. I guess the / is the root and/dev/xxxx is the other disk which must be mounted too. I purchased an external 1.5 T byte drive and downloaded rescue disk so I could boot from it and than backup my hard drive. There is a program called partimage and one can run it in the gui mode but to get it to run one must know about how to mount the disk before one starts the program. I started with dos so I am familiar with the command line to travel through a disk with such things as cd.. to go up one level and cd \ to go to the root and md for make a directory and rd to remove it. All of these things are new for Ubuntu and therefore must be learned. I have installed programs on Ubuntu using the synaptic program and when it was finished I discovered I did not know where to look for it to start it. These things are very elementary and should not be so difficult on Ubuntu.
I guess that is why the war in Afghanistan is so easy for our troops there. Even after 10 years of conflict there seems to be no end to it. The republicans are all up in arms because Obama is trying to put a limit of 2014 for the end of combat support. Who is giving the Taliban all of their weapons and training? I am also tired of hearing about our troops killing 6 children who were supposedly just gathering fire wood. There had better be significant progress before November of 2012 or I for one will not vote either republican or democratic.
I guess this means that millions of people will upload the same song to Amazon. The worst part is that Amazon had that same song even before anyone uploaded it. Than the same people are going to download a song several times that they already have but to different devices. I was watching TED yesterday and a speaker said that it takes the energy of a lump of coal to download a million bytes of data. So I guess we need to transfer trillions of bytes of data between devices that could have been done locally. They are going to do the same thing with movies. We are being forced to download movies because MPAA will not allow us to transfer them to other devices legally. All this to ensure that someone will not listen to or watch something they have not paid for. I moved a cd of music to a sd card and placed that card in another computer. The computer informed me that I did not have the license to listen to that music. When the computer tried to download a license it failed and I did not want to put that much effort into trying to listen to a song that I had already purchased. Lets destroy the environment rather than lose a couple of sales.
According to this article http://cleantechnica.com/2011/03/08/u-s-department-of-energy-announces-new-biofuel-to-replace-gasoline/ the Bioenergy science center has already produced a microbe to efficiently produce a fuel. With the cost of oil now around $100 a barrel, I would think that there would be a great demand for this technology. I would assume that it is better to use our money to produce the oil and jobs locally rather than paying questionable sources in the middle east.
I would think there would be a lot of advantages to having a taxi pick you up. For instance being paid the second one get into the taxi to the second one leaves it on the return trip. If one uses a smart phone one could work during commute. Another would be the savings from parking fees. I see this to drastically reduce the number of people in retail as I can see people ordering everything online with driver less vehicles delivering the goods to one's home. This would drastically reduce the amount of space needed for the retail stores. Stores would consist of very tall shelves with narrow passageways since products would be gathered by robots. So stores would need about a third the space to store products and no need for huge parking lots. There would be a lot of savings from every aspect of managing a store but especially from shoplifting. One can see what this would do to impulse buying since one could order something in their underwear and get it within minutes. I can just see the commercial stating that you too can enjoy the benefits of our product in less than an hour by ordering now.
I wonder if this work with radars. There is a minimum range with radars since the receiver is shut off while transmitting. If one has a 4 micro second transmit time than one has about 2,000 feet minimum range. It takes less than 4 micro seconds for the energy to travel to the target and return to the receiver when the target is less than 2,000 feet away from the transmitter.
There was a special on National Geographic about using dna to study the movement of people in early history of mankind. They stated that the Aboriginals in Australia are the second oldest people. They had a hard time explaining how the people made it from Africa to Australia. They certainly did not sail across the Indian Ocean about 40,000 years ago so they would have had to travel along the coast line. But even doing that they would have had to cross many rivers and when they got to Sumatra they would have had to cross the Java Sea to get to Borneo and a lot of open seas to get to Papua New Guinea and again to get to Australia. They tried to explain this by saying the Earth was in a ice age and therefore a lot of the oceans waters were trapped in the ice. Therefore a lot of the places that now have water might have been either not there or a lot narrower. This was the main reason the people traveled in the first place since the ice age made a lot of those lands arid.
The center of a sphere is a point that is equal distant from any point on the surface of the sphere. In an infinite universe no matter where one is there will always be an infinite distance in all directions. Therefore every point in the universe is by definition the center of the universe. I guess that makes everyone on this planet to be at the center of the universe. So bow down to me since I am at the center of the universe. Since I can not figure out an answer to this it is much easier to not think about it. It is just like time. If time had no beginning than how can it be now since an infinite amount of time would have already have past. But if time had a beginning than what was there before that beginning? I have to stop thinking about it before I give myself a headache.
I quote the article "Genetically modified food is already normal practice and nobody dies". I did not know that one could get immortality from eating genetically modified foods. I must be eating the wrong ones. Please advise me on which ones I should eat in order to gain immortality.

So two big announcement about energy and they are both developed in Universities in the state of Michigan.
