Chicago or maybe Gangs will win best picture - two movies I won't waste the time to watch. SCI-FI movies(TTT)and comedies (Greek Wedding)won't get the respect they deserve

They'll thow a bone to Jackon and crew with a "Visual Effects" award, and maybe "Sound Editing".

There is an article on Fox News that is blaming the disaster on the change to a more environmenntally friendly foam. Apparently until 1997 they used a freon based CFC foam that had much fewer problems.

It's amazing how prices of products aren't cheaper despite outsourcing to foreign countries.

Products are marginally cheaper, but the consumer doesn't see much of the savings. The corporation and middle man take the lion's share.

It's a good idea to help out the "Made in USA" companies when they make a good product at a fair price. For example, it's probably better to pay twice the cost for a Stanley wrench than for one made in China. For the extra cost you not only give an American a job, but you get a quality product as well.

I think they are making a mountain out of a molehill.

From the article: "An apple fired from one of the guns almost took out the eye of a middle-aged man near the Baltic coast. "

and "A school in Weinstadt in Baden-Württemberg recently came under a potato barrage from children playing truant, while in the Taunus region several windows of a block of flats were smashed.".

Is that all they could come up with? Someone who almost lost and eye, and a few broken windows? It's a good thing they don't play baseball in Germany.

    Another problem:

Monsanto's genetically modified "Round-Up resistant" seed is dominant.

If their canola seed cross pollinates with non modified seed, the new seed will contain the genetically modified traits.

    This causes obvious problems:
1)Seed Banks and Organic farmers get their seed contaminated (and apparently must license with Monsanto as a result).
2)The canola will eventually cross-pollinate with weed grain. It will make Round-Up usless as a result.

  10. Are the taxes regional? on Seattle Monorail & California High Speed Rail Move Forward · · Score: 1
I'm curious, is the motor vehicle excise tax just for the residents of Seattle, or is it state wide?

The monorail might be great for the people in the Sea-Tac area, but why should someone from Spokane, Yakima, Vancouver, etc want their taxes raised for a regoinal Seattle transit?

It reminds me of the project to build Safeco field. It was great for Seattle, but why did the rest of the state have to pay?
