But digg is the perfect example of web 2.0 -- it's just like web 1.0, but the useful content has been replaced with pretty CSS, AJAX tricks, and gradient filled rounded rectangles!
Even the community around it is very web 2.0 -- it encourages participation from all, no matter how unskilled or ignorant of the subject at hand~
Come to think of it, I think Web 2.0 is a metaphor for the modern world:(
Somebody patented the network time protocol? They're competing with a fruit company? WTF? I've even read the article and I have no idea what they're on about:-/
Can somebody please explain, or at least define the terms used?
I'm probably in the group of 'UK Youth' and I go to a Grammar School, which accepts the top 10% of the area, and I often find myself thinking that if some members of my class are in the top ten percent, this area has no chance.
I've made that exact same comment a few times myself... I'll be leaving for university in a few months though; that magical place where only intelligent people are allowed in, and I'll never have to deal with idiocy again \o/ (Which is what I was told the primary-to-grammar change would be like... please, please, please say it's true this time;_;)
I find btlaunchmanycurses better than btdownloadcurses, as I can run several torrents and see them all at once~ I too have no idea why this was marked funny...
Although note that while digg increases the signal a bit, it increases the noise tenfold:P
Slashdot (and digg) really need ways to mod *down* stories, preferably with categories that work like slashdot comments (eg Dupe, Flamebait, and of course positive categories too...)
So many people saying it's useless... Sure, I *could* check 200 odd webcomics, blogs, podcasts, forums, and news sites every day only to find that only one or two have updated -- but it's *much* easier to have them all merged with a single "unread items" list.
You emphasise "exclusive", but leave out "control"... I think the point isn't that they were the only IT company, but the only one who could control things -- if linux or mac go and do anything stupid, people leave them; if windows does something stupid the businesses have to stick with it as it's the only thing that works alongside their other systems.
Indeed; I've been checking out universities to apply to over the past couple of weeks -- going to open days, there are only one or two girls in a group of 30-50:(
Yeah, because 50 year old truck drivers pretending to be 12 year old lesbians use slashdot to keep their virus defenition lists up to date 9_9

Do uninformed people have the right to have their opinions heard, on the same level as informed ones?
Dislike of a product's bugs != emotional hatred of everything to come from the product's company

Has it ever *not* been in production?
Except everyone I've seen shares the view you do -- that it will undoubtedly suck. Thus if it's OK, it'll be better than everyone expected :-P
Maybe it's a metaphor comparing IE vs Standards...

Their IT manager knows more about computers than mine ;_;

Wait, was hate-google-day yesterday? Everyone else seems to be being neutral, maybe I overslept...

oh really?
It's certainly possible... (if you define "comes with it's own truck" as "portable")
"How did this gett modded informative rather than funny?"?

Also have a cookie for getting so many angry replies to a single throwaway comment...
Without LUGs, there would be no LUG Radio!
(I've never seen netbsd in the wild... Hell, it doesn't even appear in tech news other than it being born and pronounced dead)
* Except now, when I concentrate on my typing, and my ability to touch type dies entirely...
Wow, a mirror which gets lots of content before the source, and some that the source doesn't get at all :O I should really check out slashcode...

Since the sentance was talking about average errors per word, and not suggesting that longer is better per se.
