I don't think it was moderated down for the political view, but rather the way it was expressed - statements like "overrun with crazies" are likely to get modded down no matter which side of an argument they're on.
there is no real difference between being "left-wing" or "right-wing" Get thee to a politics class... Hell, basic logic class would suffice - just because there's one thing in common between the sides doesn't mean they're the same.
So do I, which is exactly my reason for hating IE - I'll spend an hour on the layout, w3c standard, and it looks fine in FF, safari and opera. I then spend the next 6 hours making it look right in IE, sometimes requiring that I start again from scratch...
I find on my 400MHz linux and school's 2GHz windows:
OOo takes ~30 seconds on linux
It takes ~7 seconds on windows
Word also takes ~7 seconds
AbiWord takes ~2 seconds on linux, and is perceptibly instant on the windows:)
All running the latest versions, note. IIRC there were a bunch of start up time boosts in the past couple of OOo releases.
(Also, the politics section. Screw the american election, I want a linux-driven lego-built robot monkey that makes me coffee whenever my eyelids get too close together!)
they see anime in everything and see everything as being ripped off or inspired by anime
WTF? The closest I've seen to that happening is people complaining that an anime has a similar idea to another anime; but given the limited number of words we have there's bound to be some in common between two series. I have yet to see anyone claiming that everything comes from anime, the closest being that the akira blurb said it inspired the matrix, but that's just typical marketing ass...
Mr Biffo was the man! It actually brings a tear to my eye to remember he and his team (and his gin), and how they're no longer with us (especially the gin):( (Although he still has an edge column)
From what I can figure out Mr Biffo had a falling out with some people at C4, and generally disliked working for them. When digi was closed on teletext he turned it into a website, but there was no advertisment and nobody noticed until it was too late, so it closed from lack of funding:(
Square Enix is finally answering the prayers of thousands of FF7 fans
I always thought our prayers were that they'd remake FFVII with updated graphics, maybe a couple more sidequests, optional FFX style battle time system in addition to active and wait, etc; but leave the core story untouched...
This story got posted while I was mid-way through installing the latest version, so I missed the mozilla.org slashdotting as everyone goes to upgrade:)
Apart from "very nice" I can't think of much to say, so I'll just make a convenient nyud link - The guy's used up his month's traffic in one weekend, so he'd probably appreciate some mirroring:)
Yes, MM is decietful and biased. But does this not apply to other political people too? At least MM openly admits to being biased, rather than pushing his opinions under the shield of politically correct phrasing...
Just had my first lesson of computer science a-level, in which I learned that MIT helped Apple create Windows, Pascal is a base language of windows, and the 286 was the first processor. Thankfully, after several years of The System, I've become quite adept at giving teachers the metaphorical finger and educating myself instead \o/
I think most people find their first to be their favourite - like many things, there's the magic of it being new; despite all the FF games being very different, the magic of newness only happens once.
Come to think of it, my first was actually mystic quest, a sort of Fisher Price My First RPG, made by square to introduce people to RPGs without all the scary stats. FFVII was my first real one though, and is my favourite; I liked 6 the one time I played it through, but 7's sidegames and subplots* mean I've put more time into it that all my other games put together.
* Many of the subplots were never finished, and that's why I think it was so popular - there's always something out of reach, which gives plenty of room for thought (eg Did anyone ever get past the guard dog in the first screen of the underwater reactor sequence? There's an arrow saying that there's a door there, but the dog is in the way...)
No no; ninjas are the natural enemy of pirates, and the only force strong enough to combat them! It all makes perfect sense
I call it a hash - I'm not sure if that's the official english name or just mine though :/

Plugin compatability tends to be a post-1.0 sort of thing. It'll be here soon...

I randomly typed in ilovebees.com when I was bored, and found it most odd - WTF is up with it? WTF has it got to do with halo?

mencoder dvd://1 -o file.avi
I blame the bad grammar, ironically enough...

Really?
Last time I checked (a few months back, I can't find the page any mrore) sourceforge was 17TB...

mplayer plays real quite well, but I get occasional segfaults :(
I'd say support for multiple codecs would be more like support for various road surfaces...
No computer system from before ~95 was likely to reach 2000 without being upgraded...
And really; on the multi-terabyte systems this is designed for, an extra 8 bytes per pointer isn't a big deal.

Doh.

I daresay most people here browse from work - how many offices have FF installed?
Apart from "very nice" I can't think of much to say, so I'll just make a convenient nyud link - The guy's used up his month's traffic in one weekend, so he'd probably appreciate some mirroring :)
I clicked the link, and the first thing I saw was that SCO do skunkware; WTF?
