get real man, seriously the majority of people who use the unix command line functions do so because they _can_ type 160wpm and get work done faster like that. the rest, who can't, use the friggin gui tools like everyone else.
Oh suck it up. Linux people crack jokes about Windows all the time. Jokes like that aren't so funny when you know the truth, aren't they? Now you know how a Windows 2000 user feels about BSOD jokes.

"Polite my ass, just yesterday I was walking down in Downtown and accidently tripped on a woman walking the opposite way, I turned to apologize, and before I coudl get out "Excu..." she suddenly whips around and starts yelling "Why don't you watch where the @$#@ you're going?"./Real/ polite people."
So.. 1/250,000,000th of the U.S. population lead you to the conclusion that Americans are inpolite. Heh.
"Why would I want to replace a unix based OS with an excellent user interface, support for things like Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and heck even Flash/Shockwave plugins. None of this is on Linux (unfortunately)"
Im glad somebody else said this. The answer is "You don't switch to Linux just to gain a few popularity points on Slashdot". Microsoft isn't holding a gun to my head to use Windows 2000, I'm using it because I use Lightwave, Photoshop, After Effects, lotsa games, and the internet in general extensively.
Too bad my Windows 2000 preference has earned me a reputation for being 'pro-MS' as opposed to being practical.
The OS is nowhere near as important as the apps you use on it. I wish the Linux zealots out there would learn that before spouting 'Switch to Maya!' every time I breath a word of Lightwave. I'm happy to switch to *nix *if* it benefits me. Until them, I'm a Windows guy. I did not make a bad choice.
These devices aern't as cool as I had heard of. I was half-way through building one of these things when I realized it wouldn't skeletonize anybody that came within 10 meters.
"Why do people have such a problem with relaxing and waiting a few minutes."
Why is this about 'not being able to relax a few minutes'? That's a bit of a stupid assumption, dontch'a think? The problem is that they're bombarding you with 'Buy my crap!' stuff for those 5 minutes.
If you were eating at McDonald's, and I sat down at your table for 5 minutes trying to convince you to buy a watch from me, would your schedule be so loose that you'd be happy to listen to my pitch? Would you be willing to listen to it every time you ate at McDonald's with no way to get around me?
No. I doubt you'd last 30 seconds. Which is silly really, I mean why not relax and do something else while I'm talking? Why can't you spend another 5 minutes at McDonald's so I can show you this great deal on a watch? I mean geeze, even if you were on the clock it wouldn't cost you hardly anything.
"It won't hurt you to have to wait 30 seconds. If you have your schedule so tight that you can't even spend an extra 30 seconds, then you should force yourself to sit down and waste some time. You need it:)"
30 seconds for an FBI warning isn't the problem. Loading up a DVD with commercials for other DVD's in such a way you can't skip them is.
Hmmm. Maya's probably your best bet. It has a totally kick ass modeler that I'm eager to play with. It's pretty much the industry standard for movies today.
They recently lowered their price, too. I think it's around $2,000 now. They have a 'learning edition' for free, not sure if that's Linux or not.
"Actually, Newtek has announced a free Lightwave renderer for Linux, which will be available sometime Q4 2002."
THat kicks ass for setting up a render farm. Im seriously excited about that. STill, though, I hope they port the layout and modeler to it one day. I would like to move off of Windows at some point. In the mean time, though, it'd be silly for me to do that. Actually it'd be masochistic heh.
Well, I was finally able to get the page discussing the evils of 'Goto' to come up. I think I understand his gripes about it, although I'm still puzzled as to why it needed to be 'abolished'.
I can certainly understand pleading with people to make more sensible code, but I didn't strike me as being that urgent. I don't think I have a full picture of what's going on here. Could somebody enlighten me? I'm really curious.
"So instead of sucking Bill G's peter all the time why dont you get a Macintosh, I hear they have some pretty nice graphics and 3d software!!!!!"
Why would I bother with Mac? 3D Apps are best supported on Wintel platform. If I switch to Mac, 95% of my plug-ins for Lightwave (or AE, or PS...) won't work. I'll no longer be able to play games. And I'll have the worst browser support. Linux would be worse, not better, if it were supported.
Gee.
Call me 'pro-Microsoft' if you want. I have no particular love for MS, but I do think being a close minded, idiotic, Linux zealot would really eat into my productivity.
Although I suppose I could switch to Linux just to artificially boost my popularity. Heh.
I've noticed it takes a while for flourescent lightbulbs to turn on. I guess all of the technology bloat has finally taken a noticable performance hit on light.
" So if your gonna come preaching to a predominately anti-microsoft crowd about how you deserve so much respect for sucking Bill Gates dick well fine, it's a free country, Micro- fuckhead!"
Those are strong words from somebody who admitted they can't do something as simple as install Windows. Heh. What a tard.
Sorry bud, you can't attribute your incompetance to Microsoft. You certainly can't troll me with it.

If somebody can believe a stereotype can be applied to 250 million people, I can't imagine that person'd get much use out of a global internet.

I dunno about that, I'm still getting 0fps with GTAIII on my Mac.

I don't think stockholders would care much for MS's games if it came to that.

It'd take quite a while (like years) for a TV Studio or a game company to recoup their investment if they were to switch to Linux/Maya/Renderman.
That's why Renderman's virtually unheard of anywhere outside the movie industry.
Go figure.

An AC calling me a moron. What a devastating blow to my ego.
"Linux seems to have solved problems for ILM, Pixar, DreamWorks, yadda yadda.."
Yeah, it cost them several thousand $$$ per workstation to do that.
Nope. LW's got a superior render. To match/beat it in LW, I'd need to spend several K more on Renderman.
Somebody doesn't understand my sarcasm, and I'm the moron. Heh.
Ah thank you, very interesting. :)
Too bad asking a question cost me a karma point. *Glares at the mod that thought he was 'trolling'*

Surprised they didn't call it the 'Emancipation Compiliation'.

What a thoughtful post! Dictionary.com's pathfinding algorithms were able to find out what you mean by 'respest'. Heh.

Wow, your post had absolutely nothing to do with the topic.
:)
I'm guessing your strategy is to make anti-MS comments so your karma goes up. Heh and you accused ME of 'sucking dick'.
Man that's a riot. You crack me up.
